✋🏻❄️TOXIC CHRISTMAS FOODS FOR DOGS 🛑🎄

Christmas is the time for eating, drinking and being merry, but lots of our favourite festive foods are toxic to our dogs and should be kept well out of paws reach:

* 🍫CHOCOLATE – chocolate is toxic to dogs and even small amounts can cause serious illness.
* 🥧CHRISTMAS PUDDING & MINCE PIES – grapes and dried vine fruits, including currants, sultanas and raisins, can cause severe kidney failure if eaten
* 🧄ONIONS (and garlic, leeks, shallots and chives) – these are all poisonous to dogs whether cooked or uncooked.
* 🥃ALCOHOL – alcohol has a similar effect in dogs as it does in their owners. Make sure your dog can’t help themselves to any unattended alcohol left lying around.
* 🍪LEFTOVERS – don’t be tempted to give your dog leftover Christmas food – they can include hidden ingredients toxic to dogs and mould in leftovers can make them ill
* 🍬SWEETS – many of the sweets we eat over Christmas, such as candy canes, contain a sugar-free sweetener called xylitol, which is poisonous to dogs

If you think your dog has eaten something they shouldn’t, contact your vet for advice.

Which parts of a Christmas dinner can I give to my dog?

Providing your dog is healthy and is not allergic to the following foods, it’s safe to feed your dog a little bit of these foods at Christmas:

* 🦃 TURKEY - without bones
* 🐟 SALMON - without bones
* GREEN BEENS
* BRUSSELS SPROUTS
* PARSNIPS
* 🥕 CARROTS
* PEAS 🫛
* SWEDE
* POTATOES 🥔

Fireworks can cause lots of distress for dogs and owners, so here are a few tips on how to stay safe this Bonfire Night 💙

🐾 Create a safe space for your dog
🐾 Stay calm & confident
🐾 Give toys and treats as a distraction- frozen Kongs, antlers, puzzle toys are a good distraction
🐾 Ensure your garden is secure should they attempt to escape
🐾 Reassure your dog where necessary this evening
🐾 Walk well before it gets dark and make sure they are tired by evening time
🐾 Secure all doors and windows to prevent escape, and insure your dog's microchip information is up to date.
🐾 Close windows and blinds and draw the curtains to hide the flashes
🐾 Play background noise- turn up the TV or radio to combat the loud bangs
🐾 Pop a pair of trainers in the tumble dryer as this frequency of sound will match the fireworks.

Anyone got any more to add?

Did you know - Classic FM plays music throughout the night that is soothing to dogs. Consider leaving this on for your pup through the night.

•Pet your dog, all the time
•Talk to your dog, all the time
•Allow your dog to follow you, all the time
•Allow your dog to be on your lap or laying on your feet, all the time
•Pet, soothe, comfort your dog when it whines or barks for attention...or is simply anxious
•Allow your dog to demand affection/interactions
•Be emotionally dependent on your dog to the point that unhealthy dependency and interactions are no longer noticed
•Allow your dog to do whatever it wants, whenever it wants—aka, provide no structure, rules, or accountability
•Foster an environment of chaos, stress, and anxiety
•Refuse to train and pattern calmness
•Refuse to crate train your dog
•Refuse to correct your dog when inappropriate behavior occurs
•Refuse to train your dog how to be independent/alone by using a “Place” command, “Downstay, and/or “away” time in the crate
•Let your dog out of the crate when it whines or barks
•Avoid training or anything that makes your dog temporarily uncomfortable or unhappy—in other words, cater to your dog’s every desire/need, designing your life around your dog, rather than having your dog fit into yours
•And many, many more...

Basically, baby, soothe, allow, enable, disable, lean on, omit teaching necessary life skills, prioritize what feels good for you rather than what does good for your dog, and through this master plan of leadership-free chaos, and systematic cultivation of creating a toxic dependency between dog and human...you’ll ensure that when you leave, your dog will be a true emotional mess, because you haven’t prepared them to be calm, obedient, strong, resilient, robust, independent, and alone.

3, 2, 1, GO! 🥇

Watch on as Louis & Kyla go head to head against the clock. I think it's safe to say that nothing was getting left behind with Kyla around! 😅

To anyone reading this who is welcoming a new puppy into their home very soon, stop scrolling!

Let’s talk about a common issue that breeders come across with new owners… Realistic Expectations.

First of all the puppy has been in the breeder's home since birth. They had their mother and often littermates. They had their routine, were taught expectations and were completely in their comfort zone.

Now suddenly they are taken to a totally new environment. Different smells, temperatures and people - overwhelming to say the least.

This is what every puppy goes through when going to their new home. Stress manifests in different forms. From not eating, reluctancy to play and greet people. Being apprehensive at the vet’s or as strangers reach for them. Sometimes even tummy bugs and depression can occur.

Remember if the puppy was wonderful at the breeder’s house but now is struggling, you as the owner, need to help the puppy adjust which takes time, patience and training. Have realistic expectations and give the puppy positive experiences. Each puppy is an individual, don’t compare your current puppy to past pets and judge their behaviour based on how another dog handled things. Lastly, try to see things from a puppy’s perspective and adjust situations accordingly. 🐾 🤍
