Everyone has a dog they wish they owned in their life right?
Sultan came to me dog reactive some time ago now.
We worked through his reactive impulsive behaviour and he now completely ignores other dogs if i ask him too and has socialised happily in groups now too.
Obedience training isn’t something im great at or do a lot simply down to not practicing rather than ability but i do love messing about with Sultan.
His potential to learn is crazy and i truly one day i have my very own Sultan.
I love him ❤️🥺🐾

It was a bully dog kind of day at the Dog Mechanic.
Lots of work on focus and engagement in stimulating environments because a dog that listens to you is one you can control.
We had Beautiful Benson the old English Bulldog in for response training.
Followed by Teddy and Dolly the Double act Frenchies who pay attention to nothing and nobody outside 😂
Then we had Kobie the Cane Corso in for some environmental training before we finished up with Staffie Theo working on his dog reactivity.
Watch till the end to see how far he came.
A great day all around 😃

Hearing someone say that aggressive dogs get too much of a pass these days has really upset me.
There’s still a huge proportion of people who believe dogs are all social and their dog can do what it likes as long as it’s “friendly”
Sometimes it feels education for the modern human is useless.
But I’m going to try anyway ❤️🐕😂

DO YOU HAVE A REACTIVE DOG?
Then give me just a few minutes of your time which could help change your life.
Having a reactive dog is one of the hardest things to navigate and can often make you feel lonely and isolated.
Are you:
Avoiding all walks?
Walking at night and early in the morning to avoid stressful situations?
Being failed by multiple trainers?
Being told to avoid everything?
Being told to euthanise your dog?
Then you have finally found what you’ve been looking for.
Take a look at this 3 minute video of a selection of the dogs and owners who were just like YOU!!!!!
Based In Southampton but travel also.
You should only ever hire a trainer based on ability so I’ll shut up and let the video do the rest of the talking.
Send me a message to get your assessment booked in ❤️🐾🐕

I always say that dogs can learn so much from letting them make their own mistakes.
There are of situations and behaviour that this doesn’t apply too because it’s dangerous to do so, but if conditions permit then I’ll always allow the dog to figure out for themselves where they are going wrong.
That thought process the dog goes through will shape the behaviour you want in no time at all because dogs will always do what works for them.
I’ve worked with Kobie the Cane Corso outside on his behaviour and we’ve made extensive progress in that environment but his home manners are quite the opposite.
Kobie will pick up things, destroy them , jump all over those living there and do anything to get his owners attention and this is causing a big game of cat and mouse where his behaviour will eventually lead to a separation and then when he comes back in, his whole thought process is that despite the attention being negative, that’s what gets me attention.
Positive or negative attention really doesn’t matter for kobie.
What matters is he gets it.
I have been thoroughly molested by Kobie so I know how bad this gets.
This leads to longer separations from the family and the roundabout continues.
By simply ignoring his calls for attention and letting him figure out it doesn’t work for him, and then reinforcing the behaviour we want when it’s offered it becomes really easy to shape the desired behaviours we enjoy more.
I have left the owner with a plan to bring Kobie into the living areas for multiple periods in the day where he will be fully engaged with his owner only and not roam free.
Extending those periods of time he’s out. increasing duration between rewards over times and eventually phasing this out completely should get this sorted.
But consistency is absolutely vital.

Ralphie ❤️🐾
Here’s a little snippet of our training session with ralphie from last night.
We’ve been working with ralphie over the last month or two on lots of different areas that include demand barking at home, resource guarding his mum to other members of the family and particular high value items also.
His training at home is coming on very nicely but he also has some reactive behaviours outside.
Ralphie has been known to lunge at dogs especially around food and also during what seems like play.
I’ll be honest I’ve not seen too much reactive behaviour outside at all.
The resource guarding food we already know is an issue for Alfie and to be honest being that he’s an only dog at home there is always a risk that he’ll guard when outside if he thinks the food belongs to him.
I don’t think that needs training to be honest that just needs advocating for him and not setting him up to fail.
There’s no real need to feed Alfie around others outside and he doesn’t need to learn to share at home so this for me is just avoiding doing so.
You’re just setting him up to fail when there are so many other options.
My second point is quite an important one.
Over the last month or so I’ve heard lots of stories about Ralphie kicking off but not really seen it.
In fact when we’ve been out Ralphie is quite oblivious to dogs in general and prefers to go about his walk having a sniff around or engaging with his owner.
In all dreams and fairytales of dog ownership we want our dogs to love other dogs and people.
It’s pretty much every dog owners want when they get a dog.
Unfortunately though just like humans who are also social creatures, not every dog wants to be surrounded by others and he has every right to feel that way.
In every story I’ve heard about Ralphie, he’ll be playing and then suddenly snap and that to me is a dog that doesn’t really enjoy playing with other dogs as much as his owner would like.
The work we’ve done means Ralphie will re
Its been a while now since we worked with Theo on his reactive behaviour towards dogs but unfortunately during his last stint with us mummy got poorly and training had to take a backward step.
Theo is the ultimate silent assasin and will lunge and absolutely bite if given half a chance and this stems from a lack of socialisation as a puppy before he was rescued.
He simply knows no other way and his reactiv behaviour is occurring due to a lack of confidence around dogs.
Weve been working on a new emotional response when dogs are present using minor corrections and positive reinforcement and building some new better associations with dogs when Theo makes better choices ❤️🐾

Kobie ❤️🐾
4 hour training sessions today and first up was my mate Kobie. We have done lots of work with Kobie out of the home and he’s now much calmer for his dog walker and making great progress but his indoor manners leave a lot to be desired.
Kobies behaviour is so manic and Mental that he has his own room he spends most of his time in because when he’s out he’ll destroy everything in sight, pick up things and jump at people relentlessly.
Kobies still a very young dog with little boundaries and along with that, this separation from the family is causing a lot of frustration meaning those moments he’s out he takes it upon himself to get as much attention as possible and this doesn’t matter whether it’s negative or positive attention.
It’s only matters to him that he gets it.
We are stripping this right back and Kobie will now be on a schedule where he’ll leave the room multiple times a day to solely engage with mum.
Over the time we’ll increase the duration of the time he’s out in these slots. But what our intentions are is to have Kobie learning different patterns of behaviour to get the attention he so desires.
During these times out of his room he’ll be reinforced for being calm and this will teach him that this is what gets him what he needs.
As we increase the time he’s out of the room and the time between reinforcement he should start remaining calmer for longer periods until eventually this becomes his new behaviour.
Pretty easy fixes but the need to be consistent and get the timing right is pivotal ❤️🐾

Ralphy ❤️🐾
We were back with Ralfie this afternoon working on some guarding issues in the home.
We previously worked on his guarding of mum which has got better but Ralphy is still guarding Items he finds high value whether it be a bit of paper or indeed the most recent a dirty plaster found in the park.
Ralph will lunge to a bite if he finds something he likes and this behaviour is especially prevalent around mum and not so much dad.
This is because Ralphy has very little to no boundaries with mum.
Today we have been working on teaching Ralphy a swap to start building more positive associations with giving things up.
It’s very likely this started by simply removing items from him that he valued and while it is within our right to remove a dirty plaster from his mouth without reprimand from him, we have to realise now that this is an issue and train him to react differently and put our egos aside for the moment.
Ralphy did really well today but catch a point about half way through the video where I used a teachable moment to show how to do this safely and what not to do when I got a little lunge from Ralphy.
We also worked on some threshold stuff as the morning routine of over excitement and barking is driving his owners mad.
Next couple of sessions we’ll be working on his picking things up outside and reinforcing the swap in different environments and also his reactive behaviour towards other dogs which is seemingly sporadic and unpredictable. I’ll be working to prove that it isn’t unpredictable and hopefully proving that there are lots of signals that are being misread and there are reasons behind it.
Quite simply and I know I say it a lot, but Ralphy isn’t a bad dog. He’s just another dog with very little boundaries who’s doing what’s always worked for him.
Mum quite often feels guilty and gives into demand barking and bad behaviour and I’ll be working very hard to stop this from happening ❤️🐾
