Great weekend of training dogs, still trying to get my head around toddlers though 🤪

I went straight from a reactive Bichon to a reactive 2 year old!

I am fully booked this Saturday,, but I have space on Saturday the 19th for 1-2-1 sessions

A nervous (but very cute) Labrador pup and a resource guarding and very vocal (but also very cute) cockapoo is how I’ve started my Saturday!

I still have availability on Saturdays, so get in touch if you need support with your dog and weekends are the best time.

Full disclosure, I don't like sending owners to the vet, I know it can be expensive and it's a faff and I'd much rather get on with helping you with a behaviour plan.

Unfortunately in some instances the vet is the best option, trying to modify behaviour on a dog that is in pain is very difficult and unfair on the dog as the root cause needs to be established.

Better safe than sorry, if you see any out of character behaviour, or changes in behaviour that have changed suddenly get your dog checked out.

Another shaping video, as always you only need a clicker (you can use verbal markers like "yes" or "good" rather than a clicker), some high value treats and a rough idea of what behaviour you are going to reward. In this case I wanted Ralph to sit on the chair!

The key to this is small increments, don't ask for the full behaviour at once, sometimes the dog just looks at the object you want them to interact with and you build from there.

Have fun with it!

Very easy to get caught in a scenario where you can't see the wood for the trees, when your dog is continually repeating an unwanted behaviour. Try and step back and take a look at the ABC of the scenario and see if there are any changes that could be made!

Shaping, a great way to get your dog using their brain. I also like it for teaching a "go to place" cue as you can insert a verbal cue when your dog has the behaviour nailed. 1 - charge your clicker, ask for sits, click and reward, nice and easy 2- Have an idea of what you want your dog to do 3- Play a Hotter Colder game, stay quiet and every time your dog looks at, moves closer to or interacts with the object you want him to click and reward 4 - Keep it fun, keep it easy, your dog should be winning A LOT don't set the criteria too high or they will get frustrated or just sack it off all together!
