Have you remembered to keep an eye on your water parameters?

We may not be out as much with the pond in the colder months, but you should still be doing maintenance, including water tests.

Over time, kH will deplete meaning you will get an unstable pond. To combat this, regular water changes should be done to ensure you have a good level to keep everything healthy. Double check your mains supply for kh too, in case you need to buffer it.

The Aquacare water test kit will tell you what your readings are. To test all the different parameters, doesn't take much time at all. Put the kettle on, make your brew and test. By the time you have finished your drink, you will have tested each one, and have your results.

Hi everyone.

What is the most random koi fact you know?

Or is there something you would like to know the answer to?! Nobody knows everything! Let's help each other in our journey of koi keeping.

With Christmas fast approaching, there is still time to grab a voucher! This can be put towards anything in store! Maybe keep hold of it till the spring, when we will be selling koi again? There will be more to choose from them too, as we will be taking delivery of new stock in a few months time. We cannot wait!

So. What are your plans for next season??

An upgrade on equipment??

New stock?

New pond even?!

Come by and ask about pumps and filters for your next project! We stock equipment from several of the top manufacturers. If we don't have it in the store, we can order it for you. Most of the time, we can have it in the shop within a week.

Once we are nearer Spring, there will be lots more fish to choose from. They are all picked out, direct from the breeders in Japan. Mid February, is when our buyers make the long flight, straight there by the way, and visit a lot of different farms, all in a short space of time. A very busy trip, visiting farms, picking the best quality fish, so not much downtime!

Once the fish have been picked up from the airport, ( and have had their passports stamped, and their luggage checked 😉 ), they will go through a strict quarantine period first when they arrive at the store. When this has passed, we of course still keep a close eye on each one, several times a day to make sure they are all in tip top condition. This not only protects our other fish in the system, but also yours too at home.
Then finally, ( the best bit) when the outside water temperature is high enough, we can start selling again.
