We made loads of plans in this lesson for 2024! Qualifying for prelim championships, competing at Novice and all the time training for our first Elementary in September 🙌 💪

First time in an indoor for them both with sooooo much going on and they both totally smashed it ❤️

Another new venue to test their comfort zones and they both walk away from a strong class with 3rd place and the most gorgeous rosette 🏵️ 😍

✨ GLENLIVIT ✨

Gorgeous 16.2hh 8 yr old tb gelding.

Was in training with Paul Nicholls and raced twice in NHF races.
He showed little promise in training and so retired sound and well to continue his career competing RoR showing, side saddle, fun rides and being amazing at hacking out and about!
Glen is a fantastic nanny horse to the younger ones not even turning a hair at most things and totally bomb proof in traffic.
Nicely schooled Glen will offer some one lots of fun on the showing circuit and be the ultimate best friend on the yard.
Easy to handle and great with other horses. No vices or issues.
Would be a fab ladies horse who wants to concentrate on low level dressage, general showing, fun rides and hacking.
Recently passed a two stage vetting on the 5/10/23
For sale through no fault of his own.
A real poppet that I will really miss when he’s leaves out yard.

Apologies for the slow status update from the weekend! I’ve been ridiculously busy and winter months send me into hibernation mode 🤣🥶

So, without further ado, Liz and Iggy competed at Sparsholt on Sunday!

This was a massive ordeal as it was a brand new location with jumping in the other rings! The energy was high again and this was the first event since Lincoln that simulated the championship conditions!

Iggy was certainly on his toes more and very interested in the jumping! But Liz dug deep to over come her own fears to ride a fantastic test to only go and place second!!!!

And this was a test that Liz and Iggy had never done before!

Super proud that both are working towards a step in the right direction, overcoming their fears in order to smash the championships out the park next year ✨

I said this horse was going to be a cracker and he’s really starting to show himself to be!

Such a trainable brain and just natural ability! Legs still all very much go in random directions some times but when you’re a young boy growing like a w**d it’s not surprising 😂😂

Fabulous lesson with Kayley & her gorgeous young boy Roo this morning!

Despite the depressing weather we managed a very productive lesson learning the importance of the ‘ Bend is your Friend ‘ analogy 💪🙌

This tall leggy boy is still very much finding his balance, but seeing so much improvement every time ❤️

So, I’ve been thinking 🤔

Careful you say! 🤣

But with the closure of my business focusing primarily on large scale sales and schooling/breaking livery, I’ve really enjoyed just having one horse in on livery. It’s allowed me to really focus on them and watch them Flourish.

So, as I love fixing the broken ones (of which I’m quite good at 🤣) and also having regular holiday guests come round (I have the lovely Orpheus the polo pony coming back for a 3.5 week holiday in November), I’m thinking I would like to offer individual Taylor made packages for physical rehab after injury and holiday livery.

It will mean that ponio will get all my overwhelming attention every day as if they are my own without the need for me to house a further 15 🤣

So here’s to a new and refined GJE, no longer Eventing & Racing but Rehab & Livery.

I’m still going to be starting some confidence building and ex race horse clinics in the near future and presently I am Available for tuition at my yard or I can come to you!! 🙌🙌

So that’s a wrap on selling!!

And what a perfect last horse to sell! Sam youve been an absolute delight all the way through! The most perfect tb despite me breaking my arm & wrist early on into our retraining off another horse hindering our progress!

Such a sweet natured and trainable horse!

He passed a 5 stage yesterday with absolutely nothing to mention and it was so nice to have Mel from Damory do my last vetting! We had a giggle and a catch up all the way through!

Many thanks to Meaghan Keatley for riding him for me in the vetting! Absolute star!

Sam is now off to pastures new for a life of being spoilt to bits with Tanya Phippen!

Couldn’t of asked for a better last sale ❤️😍

A brief but productive lesson on Friday for kayley & Roo!

Grid work for these two as well getting Roo thinking about maintaining collection and softness whilst accepting the aids through different exercises!

Really got this boy thinking and stepping under as well! Brilliant for engaging the hind quarters and keeping that brain ticking and listening!

Unfortunately very quickly the heavens absolutely chucked it down on us so we bolted back to the yard 🤣 ⛈️ ☔️ 💦

Bit of grid work much to Gabbys disgust, which resulted in an entirely frustrated explosion on the first canter 😅😂

Another fab Day taking Liz & Iggy competing for the riding club qualifiers yesterday!

Huge event with seriously large classes and extremely stiff competition!

They did amazingly well to place second in their first test and then came a credible 9th in the second!

Class entries were over 20 in each so to come out and even place is phenomenal let alone a 2nd In The first test!

Another amazing effort and on to the next for a spooktacular test next Sunday 👻 🎃

Amazing day at Crofton on Sunday!! ☀️ 🥇 🏆

Liz and Iggy came back to competition smashing both their prelim tests in the high 70s to win Prelim 12 and come 5th in their Prelim 7!

These classes were HUGE as well, but Liz & Iggy pulled it out the bag since Lincoln to only be one more competition away from already qualifying for another championship 🏵️

Amazing pair who come back stronger every time 💪

Has been let down in a lovely family home since march and started his retraining with us just under 4 weeks ago.

Good Morning Everyone ☀️

It is with great sadness that a decision has been made to close my doors to my full based livery training services from the end of the month.

There are a multitude of factors but primarily this decision mainly comes from the current economic climate making it near on impossible to function And my current fracture.

I will still be remaining at my yard for my own personal horses and I’ll be steering the business towards more teaching and potentially starting up some confidence clinics & RoR clinics.

This is a daunting new chapter but an exciting one & I can’t wait to continue to see you all from the floor 😆👩‍🏫

So today we spent the day at Crofton completing Liz Newmans first ever long arena test on the amazing gentleman that is Iggy 🦄❤️

In a very strong class of 17 she pulled it out the bad for an amazing 6th!
Some great comments from The judges and lots of constructive comments to work from for our next novice test! 🙌🙏

I’m so amazed at what these two have managed to achieve in only a year of teaching them!

I’m super proud! 🥹

And Archie is turning out to be a super groom for Iggy Pop with every little adventure ❤️

WHEN YOU STRUGGLE TO INFLUENCE

Let me tell you a story of what happens when you work with a lot of horses that are struggling with behavioural problems, resistances, struggles or anxiety.

First you can only see behaviour that needs to be trained and people that need to be taught how to train.

Life is pretty straight forward and you have lots of success.

Then you meet a horse that just won't change. You question your methods and you start experimenting with your approach.

Sometimes you get success but sometimes the horse remains inconsistent.

If you are lucky this horse you are struggling with will go to the vet and get diagnosed with a soundness issue.

This is the moment you learn that unsound horses do not always appear lame, they just struggle to do certain things that are restricted by their issue.

If this horse's unsoundness can be successfully managed you get to see how the struggles evaporate and the horse progresses.

It is a significant experience because from this moment the flood gates open into the world of "things that make horses struggle"...to this day I am still learning all the things that can get in the road of my ability to influence the horse to understand and grow in confidence with what I expect them to learn and perform.

People say horses are stoic and hide their pain. This is not true. Most people just don't know what pain or limitations can present like when a horse shows you (thank you Tami Elkayam for this bit of truth)

I have learnt to see red flags of struggle and I know when evidence directs me to refer to vets or other equine professionals depending on the issue.

Gone are my days of pushing relentlessly to train. These days I hear the horse and trust them when they tell me they are struggling. The only way forward will be to diagnose, successfully manage and maintain.

🔴Sometimes diagnosis is tricky, sometimes it takes multiple visits to the vets.

🔴Sometimes it takes a few treatment changes and plans.

🔴Sometimes it is not straight forward and requires a lot of time and financial investment.

🔴Sometimes it is frustrating or heart breaking as nothing can be found and nothing helps.

🔴Sometimes you have no one near you that can help!

And sometimes you have to let go of those dreams of riding your horse because you discover the awful reality that not every horse can be ridden or do what you want to do.....and this totally sucks :(

These days the hardest part of my job is being the advocate for both the horse and their owner. I can see red flags fast and I have to translate what I see and know to owners and share may wisdom of what I have learnt.

Finally, I will repeat this again and again because it is reality - I have never met a difficult horse that has not turned out to have a soundness issue that has hampered my ability to influence them.
