Update- Owner FOUND 🥰🥰
Tortoise found in Brilley area!
If you think it may be yours, please
call the practice, with details.
It's veterinary reception appreciation day today. The reception team are a vital part of our practice, we really couldn't do it without them.
One of our scratching posts has been given the paws up from Oliver, an official Hay Vets product tester.
Oliver was brought in by a member of the public just days old as his mother was nowhere to be seen. Helen, one of our vets took him on and was up every couple of hours feeding and toileting him. Now look at him at 10 weeks old, hasn't she done a brilliant job!!

We’d love to see how your pets have enjoyed this beautiful Sunday!
This is Goldie having a lovely dust bath. She’s gone broody (this happens every year and she’s at least 6 now) and so she’s been evicted from her nest for a few hours’ exercise.
We love a Happy Ending (but please note some of the pictures are a little graphic).
This little chicken came into the practice after being unfortunate enough to have been attacked by a dog. Luckily she was in safe hands with our vets and nurses and was able to have surgery to stitch her back together!
She has been recovering over the last couple of weeks and came for her post-op check last week - it looks like she’s on the road to recovery.
Look at these two buddies found on a swab from a puppy’s ear today. No wonder he was a bit itchy!
These tiny critters were living in the ear canal of a young puppy. The mites could be seen wandering around the narrow bendy tube that forms a dog's ear canal. A swab from the canals was applied to a microscope slide and this image shows two mites which were collected. There are lots of reasons why pets’ ears may itch, and it’s important to work out whether treating for ear mites is appropriate (often bacterial or yeast infections cause the irritation).
Infestation with Otodectes cyanotis in relatively common in dogs and cats. Unsurprisingly the mites cause severe itching (pruritis), and the scratching can cause the pet to damage their ears and secondary infection to occur. Treatment with anti-parasite spot-on often works, although sometimes treatment placed into the ear canals may be necessary. Very rarely cases of human ear mites have been reported, with a range of mite species including Otodectes and the poultry Red Mite. Yuk!
Look what we removed from two kittens this morning....and these are only a few of them.
Did you know that ticks range from tiny to not-so-tiny and the tiny ones can be pretty difficult to spot. All pets that go outside are at risk, talk to us about the best preventative treatment for your pet.
*** UPDATE - All 5 babies are doing well & have been taken on by a rescue in Tillington (Hereford). We will keep you updated with their progress (LG) ***
These 5 baby hedgehogs were brought into us this morning by a concerned gentleman who had found them abandoned in his garden yesterday. The gentleman monitored the nest to see if mum returned but sadly there was still no sign of her this morning & the baby hogs were very cold.
Lunch anyone?
Here's a sheep scab mite enjoying its dinner. We found this on an itchy ewe this morning. For advice on how best to control or prevent sheep scab please get in touch. Scab costs the UK sheep industry an estimated £8 million per year - affected sheep fail to gain weight due to constant itching (which reduces their feed intake). It presents a significant welfare issue, so prompt treatment is essential.
So here's poor Gwen, who picked up Kennel Cough back in May 2016. She hadn't been into boarding kennels, but does meet other dogs on walks. Although she wasn't very poorly, she had to stay at home until she recovered.
Don't be like Hannah, the silly vet who didn't take her own advice! Make sure your dog has kennel cough vaccination every year.
