Bailey's Story 🐶❤️

Bailey recently presented with a large, fast-growing mass on his right rear end which was picked up at his first visit to us.

Bailey's owners were clearly concerned about this lump so we decided it was best to investigate the lump straight away. We were able to utilise our rapid cancer screening technology and in-house digital microscope to diagnose an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma within a matter of hours and decided to book Bailey in for surgery immediately.

Due to the type of tumour and its location, there was some concern about the amount of skin that was available to close the wound. So, in order to make sure we removed the whole growth, we had to perform a large skin flap to close the wound.

Bailey was incredibly brave and recovered very well from his procedure. The skin wound healed well and we are glad to say that the tumour was removed with clear margins and he has now received the all clear and is completely cancer-free again!

We were so happy to be able to give his owners the fantastic news and as you can see from the last photo, he is back to his happy self enjoying his walks again! 😎🐾

Brand new dog and cat toys have arrived at the practice! 🥳

We have recently decided to stock the Petface Planet range of eco-friendly toys for your dog and cat! 🐕🐈

Inspired by the world's endangered ecosystems, the Rainforest Range highlights animals living within the biodiversity of rainforest habitats. The range features bright and colourful toys including a Chameleon, Piranha, Tree Frog, Crocodile, Toucan and more – all made from recycled plastic. 🐸

Across the UK, we use on average 7.8 billion bottles every year, which is around 117 bottles per person, of which only 56% of bottles are actually recycled.
Many bottles end up buried in landfill, or polluting our rivers and seas, contributing to the death of 1,000,000 sea creatures every year, or dumped in the British countryside that kills thousands of animals. 😔

We are all becoming more aware of our environmental impact and our responsibilities to our carbon footprint, which is why Petface has been looking to the future by developing a new range of pet toys using recycled plastic bottles. ♻️

The bottles are separated by plastic type, then shredded, washed, and reformed into pellets, which can then be used to a create a variety of fun toys that are safe for your pets. 🤯

It's been a busy few weeks at the surgery - particularly on orthopaedics. 🦴

Did you know that we are able to offer advanced treatments for orthopaedic cases at the practice with the help from visiting orthopaedic surgeons?

This includes cruciate ligament surgeries, fracture repairs, patella laxations and avulsions as well as advanced treatments and pain management for our elderly and arthritic patients too! 🩻

Our team of surgeons perform these procedures daily giving them the experience and confidence to treat cases quickly and efficiently.

Having the facilities to do this in house, saves the need for you to take your pet to another practice or a referral centre for treatment and allows case continuity with your vet - a very important part of your pet's recovery.

As we are now at the end of pet dental month, we thought we would share some tips for helping to keep our pet's teeth clean! 😁

🪥 Brushing - by far the most effective way to prevent plaque and tartar accumulation. Must be performed daily in order to be effective

🦴 Dental Chews - Not all chews are equal. Think about how long a dental chew is actually lasting when giving these to your pet. Often they will be gone in a matter of seconds! We recommend VOHC chews such as Whimzees plant-based chews that are proven to help control plaque and tartar.

💊 Supplements - Products such as Nutraplaque contain seaweed extracts that help to reduce plaque, remove tartar and improve bad breath.

🦷 Dental Treatments - Dental scaling such as the treatment shown in the pictures helps to remove tartar from the surface of the teeth. This is best performed before bacteria can get in under the gums and much before and gums recession has occurred. We can also apply dental sealants that can help to seal the gum and prevent gingivitis for 6 months or more!

If you feel your pet has smelly breath, this is often due to gum disease that can be painful and lead to rotting teeth. Get in touch with our team if you would like to have your pets dental health assessed by our vets.

The Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme has been set up by Dogs Trust and The British Veterinary Behaviour Association to help vet clinics and owners make every dog's veterinary experience the best possible. 🐾

We are still on cloud 9 after finding out that Max & Min Veterinary Practice was awarded the Best New Build Practice in the 2023 Veterinary Practice Design Awards last week!!! ⭐️

This is an outstanding achievement for us as a relatively small, start-up practice going up against some amazing new practices across the country ranging from small 1st opinion practices to multi-million pound referral centres. 🤯

The British Veterinary Hospitals Association’s design awards take placed every 2 years and were specifically intended to recognise and reward outstanding design and innovation. To win one of their awards acknowledges everything we set out to achieve when designing our clinic and shows that indeed the hard work does pay off! 🥳

Thank you to everyone who helped make our surgery a success but especially to our growing team of experienced pet lovers who continue to provide the best possible service and care to our clients. ❤️

Next on is Tanya - one of our experienced veterinary nurses. 😊

Tanya has been in the industry from a young age and has a huge amount of experience in all the roles of a veterinary practice from reception and VCA roles to running a busy hospital as a head veterinary nurse!👩‍⚕️

She has now returned to veterinary nursing after a few years break, being lured in by the idea of a new and innovative veterinary practice despite being a little concerned about learning how to use the new technology. 🖥

Her favourite part is patient care as it allows her to bond with each individual patient. 🥰

She also has a passion for the smaller patients that we see at the practice.

At home, she has 2 cats - Diva and Bubbles who she adores and has recently taken on a new puppy - Nyra who is settling in very well! 🐈‍🐩

Most of you will have already met Cat but for those of you who don't know, she leads our nursing team. 👩‍⚕️

Cat loves all aspects of veterinary nursing and believes in treating all animals with the greatest of care. 😊

She has previously worked in both charity and private hospitals leading to her adopting a 3-legged cat called Binx! 🐈‍

Cat is our go-to for all things 'cat' and is always happy to help answer any questions you may have regarding your pet's health or care.

We are very lucky to have her as part of the and we welcome her back after having a well-earned week off for her 1st wedding anniversary ❤️

The consulting room can be one of the most stressful and scary places for pets and their owners too - so we have re-imagined them to make them feel as close to home as possible!
