Equine Instinct Equine Instinct provides riders with knowledge and coaching which reaches beyond the normal realms of riding tuition.

Hello, I’m Susie and I am a Holistic Horse Riding Coach (BHSAI) and the Author of ‘From Horse to Horse Rider’, which is the first in a series of books from ‘Heart Centred Riding’. By creating a process of learning which stretches the rider’s awareness to explore just how much our horses are here to teach us. Through this awareness, Equine Instinct inspires riders to create the best partnerships po

ssible with their horses and transcend any limitations previously held in place by either the rider’s beliefs or their experiences of their own, and of their horse’s abilities. Equine Instinct demonstrates these techniques through a concept called ‘Heart Centred Riding’. Love this, well said. Thank you Petros.

I’m hugely concerned yet not surprised by all the evidence that has recently come to light about the methods some trainers/riders use in ‘producing’ horses for sale or competition. We as horse lovers, passionate about the welfare of horses and about excellence in horsemanship have to lead by example and live by sound principles of equitation. Kindness, respect, cooperation, harmony ought to be some of the guiding qualities of our culture.

Using the natural instincts of the horse, their ability to ‘read’ body language, their sensitivity and willingness to communicate we can build beautiful relationships. This is much less likely though if our priority is ‘win at all costs’, to sell as quickly as possible, or to use the horse to gratify our ego! I’m all for competing when and if the time comes, when the horse and rider are ready to do so with confidence and understanding of each other. I want to have a horse to be with, engage with, work with and then, if we can establish that kind of cooperative relationship within which we help each other out, we may choose to challenge ourselves or choose to show-off our skills in a competitive environment. This takes time, patience, consistency of good practice, and it takes as long as it takes. With all the ups and downs of training it’s a journey which has so many pleasures to offer along the way for both horses and riders.
