🐾🎓 Heysham Graduates 🐶🎉

Our gorgeous Heysham pups also graduated this week. What a class and what an amazing journey for both pups and handlers.

We couldn't be prouder of this group who worked hard across all 6 weeks, smashing training and growing in confidence.

Life with these pups is going to fun that's for sure.

🐾🧑‍🎓🎓 Storth graduates 🐶🐶

Our 2 Storth classes graduated this week with flying colours. Both classes were full to the brim with big personalities which kept me on my toes.

Not to mention the 2 brothers in class 1 and the famous 5 siblings in class 2 😂😂

What a joy to see them all drag the owners into class raring to go. I only hope to see them all again and I'm absolutely going to miss the chaos 😂😂

Our next Pet dog gun dog class starts in a few weeks on Tuesday the 12th at 7:30pm. This is at Westgate primary school in Morecambe. I may also add an earlier class so if a 6:15pm class is better, give me a shout.

🐾 New Beginnings at Puppy School North West – Heysham! 🐾

We're thrilled to welcome our newest class of puppies here in Heysham! From tiny tails to curious sniffs, these little ones are about to embark on a fun-filled journey of learning, socialising, and confidence-building. We can’t wait to see each one grow and thrive in their own unique way!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing their progress, milestones, and plenty of adorable moments. Follow along with us as they take their first steps towards becoming well-behaved, happy companions.

🎓🐾 Puppy Graduation Alert! 🐾🎓

Tonight marked the final class for our very first Pet Dog Gun Dog graduates! We've had an incredible journey with these little stars, watching them transform from curious pups into confident, skilled learners. It’s been a whirlwind of mastering new skills, plenty of laughs, and boundless tail wags along the way!

This evening's Gun Dog Games was the perfect finale – full of fun, friendly competition, and showing off everything we’ve learned together. I’m genuinely going to miss these amazing pups (and their fantastic owners!), but I’m already looking forward to doing it all again with the next group of budding gun dogs.

Nervous Puppies in Class: How We Help Them Grow Confidently

Starting puppy classes can be a big step for some pups, especially the more nervous ones like Cassie, who joined us just a month ago. In her first week, she trembled under her owner's chair, watching the world from a safe spot. But by week three, Cassie was raring to go, pulling her owner into class and eager to play. What changed? We worked with Cassie’s needs and allowed her confidence to blossom at her own pace.

As trainers, we’re constantly assessing and adapting to help each puppy feel secure. Though it may seem subtle, a lot is happening behind the scenes to help these little ones feel more comfortable:

✨ Reading Body Language: Every wiggle, glance, or even a still moment tells us something about how a puppy is feeling. We use this information to guide our approach.

✨ Respecting Space: For pups who need extra time, we may keep our distance and provide gentle barriers to help them feel safe. Respecting their boundaries is key to building trust and helping them gain confidence.

✨ Approaching Gently: Sometimes, approaching from the side, rather than head-on, and avoiding direct eye contact can make all the difference for a shy pup.

✨ Treat and Retreat: Instead of luring a puppy toward us, we might toss a treat and then move away, letting them approach at their own comfort level. This helps build positive associations without pressure.

✨ Measuring Progress: Even tiny steps are celebrated! For a puppy like Cassie, that meant gradually moving just a few inches away from her owner each week, giving her the freedom to explore bit by bit.

With patience and consistency, we see amazing transformations. Each puppy is on their own journey, and by supporting them with kindness and understanding, we can help them grow in confidence.

Cassie’s journey from nervous onlooker to enthusiastic playmate is a beautiful reminder of the progress puppies can make when they’re given the space and time to flourish. 🐾✨

This was the Alfred Hitchcock moment of my walk yesterday. I was 4ish hours in, in the arse end of nowhere, with 2 big labs and these buggers decided to mess with my head 😂😂 *slightly spicy language (but then again if they had pecked us all to death, I'm positive no one would have found us for months 😂☠️) Roughly 5 seconds after this video, if anyone could have seen it... Me legging it, dogs jumping at me because it was a great game and all the while with a bunch of birds chasing us making strange telegram noises 😂😂 All in a day! (despite being a behaviourist, i don't speak bird 😂)
