Producing a working pet gundog to a good standard takes time, patience and consistency.

Naturally we all want to rush along to the advanced, snazzy stuff but if we don’t spend enough time on the basics then it can quickly fall apart.

Making training as fun as possible always helps.

You want your puppy to think that hanging around with you is the best thing in the world; when you’re on the move he wants to be too, when you’re doing nothing he wants to be too.

Just in the way that you sat on the step with your puppy and stood at the car then so too you’re going to get into the habit of doing nothing out on your walks... and it is one of the hardest things in dog training to get into the habit of; when you’re on a walk you want to be walking, when you’re training you want to be training, not hanging around doing nothing, however, there are times, many times, when you’re out and about and doing exactly that... meeting friends in the street, browsing a shop window, having lunch in the pub or waiting your turn to do an exercise in a training group.

Stand still for a minute and watch the world go by... if your puppy starts to wander off, take a little step away from him and give him a gentle prod with a finger; when he comes back to you smile and continue admiring the view – if the prod isn’t enough say his name in a fast and almost, but not quite, sharp way as you do so.

He’ll get the hang of it very quickly and the more you do it the easier it will be for your puppy to just chill out when you stop and do nothing.

That’s a wrap for 2024 🎉

Thank you to all my fantastic, dedicated clients who put in the work to do the very best for their dogs.

Sometimes training can be super rewarding and lots of fun however, other times it can be the polar opposite but these are the days where we must continue on and push through the barriers. Certain elements of training can be monotonous and a little tedious but they are all necessary parts of the training journey.

I really do appreciate each and every one of you and feel so lucky and blessed to work with you and your wonderful dogs 🐶

Thank you again for all the lovely gifts, I will enjoy opening those tomorrow (perhaps one may have been opened early 🫣).

All that’s left to be said, from me and the FieldLines Team, is have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎉🎄🥂🎁. See you in 2025

Spring flowers 🌷

It’s worth reminding yourself on the below 👇🏻

Spring is in the air, and whilst many of us will be enjoying lovely walks with our dogs, there are many plants and bulbs that flower during spring, which are poisonous to our canine companions 🐶. Here is a list we put together, just to name a few:

🌼 Amaryllis
🌼 Bluebells
🌼 Buttercups
🌼 Crocuses
🌼 Cyclamen (root)
🌼 Daffodils/narcissus (blubs)
🌼 Elderberry
🌼 Foxglove (leaves and seeds)
🌼 Hyacinth (bulbs)
🌼 Lupin (leaves, seeds)
🌼 Onion (causes anaemia)
🌼 Rhododendron and azalea (whole plant)
🌼 Rhubarb (leaves)
🌼 Sweetpea (stem)
🌼 Tulips
🌼 Wild cherry tree (twigs and foliage)
🌼 Yew (berries and foliage)

If you think your dog has eaten any of these plants, please contact your vet immediately.

This does makes me chuckle every time I see it 🤣! All jokes aside though, it’s an important reason to train a good recall 🦌 🦌🦌🦌🦌

Helping owners and their dogs to live in harmony and work as a team brings me so much joy.

I am always elated at lovely reviews I receive because you often generally hear from clients when things aren’t quite going to plan.

Training doesn’t just happen overnight it takes time, dedication and consistency.

Start today! You’ve got this✨
