I have the best pet sitting clients 🐶 I love what I do and it’s so rewarding but even more special I get given treats 🎁 that I don’t expect, and cards that have been personally paw signed 🐾 😂 makes me feel all fuzzy inside because you know you’ve given the pet owners peace of mind too. Gifts are lovely, but knowing you’ve made a difference somehow means the world.

Introducing Dave, our new sitter to the Going Away Somerset family! Please share :)

For anyone who has contacted us as we have been fully booked this year (and some of next year) please get back ion touch if you need a sitter. Dave is fully DBS checked and fully insured and we are thrilled to have him as part of the pet sitting team. Welcome Dave!

Dave has had Cats and Dogs ever since he was a child. As a boy, the family mainly had Collies and after service in the RAF, Dave settled down to start a family and later the family had a few Heinz 57 rescue dogs. The first 'pedigree ' dog was Max, a black lab, that Dave told his wife he was going to get a curry and returned with a 12 week old Max who lived till he was 14.
When Dave and his wife Liz bought their first pub, they bought a 12 week old Westie named Jessie who tragically was stolen from their pub in Bath while they worked below in the Bar. They went back to the breeder who had one Scottie left, so Hamish came into their life. One was not enough so they rehomed a mum and daughter westie to complete the trio.
Dave moved to Spain and so did the dogs. Sadly Molly, one of the westies passed away but fate intervened as they were driving home and Dave saw eyes caught in his headlights, turning round they found a 1kg Pomeranian, badly emaciated which they took home and nursed back to Health. 'Pimple' then joined the clan !!
Returning to UK with the dogs, they bought a pub in Lancashire and all 3 dogs led a somewhat contented life
Sadly 2 days before returning to Somerset, Pimple passed and he was down to 2 dogs.......not for long Little 'Nim' a Japanese Chin joined the clan.

This is the side of rescuing that people don’t see, and just don’t realise how hard it is for us behind the scenes.
Strap in guys, while I explain.

This is Marcus.

His owner contacted me to ask me to rehome him, because….
‘He barks at other dogs and people when out so needs rehoming ’

Marcus is a 2 year old patterdale x Labrador.

He had been owned by said owner for… 5 weeks.

He’s just settling in, learning his new environment and family, and at only 2 years old he will be rather overwhelmed as well as adjusting to everything new.

Barking is how dogs communicate, and express their fears, and also excitement.

When I asked his owner what training she had been doing with Marcus to help him overcome his possible nervous behaviour, the answer was ‘he’s had none’

I explained I am full at the moment but I will let her know when I had room to fit him in.

2.5 hours later I receive a call from a vet practice.

Marcus had been taken to the vets to be EUTHANISED.

Put to sleep.
To end his life, because his owner could not be bothered to put any time or training into him.

THANKFULLY, the vets refused and called us.
They spoke to their behaviourist while they were there, and offered the owner sessions to help Marcus- the owner declined.

Killing him was the easy way to end her problem.

So, of course, with fear the owner would then just go to another vet and put him to sleep- I made room.
I don’t have room, but I’m not having it.

Marcus has been with us less than half an hour.
He has sat, taken a treat very gently.
Has met 6 dogs- enjoyed a sniff and his tail hasn’t stopped wagging

He hasn’t barked yet.

Too many people are getting pets without any consideration to the time they need to adjust, and expecting them to be ‘perfect companions’ without actually putting anything into them.

Take some responsibility and invest the time into them, you chose them to be part of your family. Stop destroying them just because you cannot be bothered to help them.
It’s not their fault.

You are safe Marcus, and loved.
You will never be treated so badly again, and that I can promise.

This means that we are having to turn away clients and we hate doing that. We understand how stressful it is to find reliable and honest pet sitters who are trained, police checked and insured.

I love it when I get little treats with notes from clients. Makes me chuckle 🤭 even when there’s no need. It helps when they are low syn too. I’ve had a candle 🕯️, flowers 🌸 and choc 🍫 in just this last week - isn’t that kind. Very grateful to have only the best clients and pets to look after 🐶 ###

I’ve never been keen on using kennels myself after having some disasters in the past. The good news is, that’s where I can help by looking after your pets in your own home with their normal routine and making sure your home is looked after too. If you haven’t got any pets and would like someone to look after your home, then I can help there too.

I offer a range of services for all animals and small holdings. I can offer some dog walking but insist upon only devoting time exclusively to your dogs and I don’t mix them as some walkers do. Pet care, routine and your peace of mind will always be my main priority.

This is why I love what I do … Meet Otis was a darling this weekend. He’s 6 months old and full of life, love and of course bounce 😂

He’s got two lovely parents who were apprehensive leaving him for the first time so I was pleased to report with updates that we got on like proper buddies who’ve known each other for a long time.

He wouldn’t leave my side, and I took come gorgeous photos so there MAY be a bit of Otis spam pics coming soon …
