The fantastic show organisers, especially those who stayed so late on Friday to greet those who arrived so late, and also a big pat on the back for Ben, Jess, Mike and Char for braving the floods (which turned a 3 hour journey into a 5 hour one) to get there.

Very proud of Jess for organising a very successful fleece show for the South West Alpaca Group, and for setting up and displaying the fleeces at the Somerset County Show this weekend so beautifully.

*2nd Update on abscess caused by rib fragment*

Poor Ionas abscess had returned and x rays seemed to show another bone fragment so a further operation was carried out today.
We were all amazed at the size of the rib bone sequestreum that was removed.

Like many, we have listened to Barbara Hetherington Beck Brow cake making recipes and watched as they are baked to perfection. Having admired them for a while we decided that some of our own cakes were missing one ingredient, some of Cumbrias finest dark chocolate.

Friday teatime saw the arrival of this sweet little boy. Born slightly premature (334 days) and weighing 5.7kg. Maiden mum won't feed him atm so another bottle feeder for the time being..luckily she is producing loads of milk for us to drain off for him.

Two very different arrivals on Tuesday.
First was a beautiful white girl from our dam Bozedown Bally sired by Gilt edge Tor de force of Ashwood...textbook birth and up and running within hours
Second an extremely handsome boy from Amazing Grace sired by our herdsire American Express.
Born with a few issues , he was given a plasma transfusion and after 4 days and nights of bottle feeding and thiamine injections now seems able to suckle from mum and is slowly starting to mingle with the other cria.

Update on our little girl with abscess..
Just been sent this photo showing the 2cm piece of bone removed on Tuesday.
It was located less than 1cm away from the lung
So pleased we have such skilled vets

Another shout out to today
This little girl has been recieving treatment for a recurrent abcess for months,... antibiotics and daily flushing.... Think it's gone and back it comes...
Today our fantastic vet Andrea operated expecting to find a grass seed only to recover a splinter of rib bone .
Hopefully this was the cause and she will soon be on the mend

⭐ What a fantastic weekend at the British Alpaca Society National Show!! ⭐

Friday started with our herd sire Popham Suri Armstrong winning Suri Champion Light Male 🤩

Saturday we were delighted to get first place Huacaya Adult Male Fawn with Southern Sands Basil Brush, followed by second place Suri Intermediate Female Fawn (2 year fleece) with Southern Sands Calamity Jane, and third place Huacaya Junior Female Brown with Popham Olivia! 🎉

On Sunday, the day started fantastically with Southern Sands Prince Caspian winning Suri Reserve Champion Fawn Male 🤩 and Popham Iona placed second in the Huacaya Junior Female White. We were also delighted to get Suri Reserve Champion White Female with Southern Sands Sweet as Candy!

⭐🏆⭐ The highlight of the weekend was the absolutely fantastic Popham Suri Armstrong going on to win SURI SUPREME CHAMPION and BEST OF BRITISH SURI!! ⭐🏆⭐

First and foremost we would like to thank the judges Natasha Clark, Roger Clarke, Amanda Vanden Bosch and Barbara Hetherington for their informative and clear reasoning. We would also like to thank the Stewards and the organisers of the show for their hard work in making it a very professionally run show.

Lastly our heartfelt thanks go to Gary and Felicia Popham for allowing us to purchase some of their fantastic alpacas to join our existing herd with whom we hope to carry on breeding some of the UK's best!

It was nice to see so many friendly faces and we are already looking forward to next year! 😊
