What an absolute pleasure to have had this boy for 2 weeks!

Although Stan is 9yrs old he’s still full of that puppy life and generally had such a laugh with the things he has done!
Ace dog with so much love to give!

Bluey💙
An overnight stay here for Blue in preparation for his week holiday with us. Blue is a nervous dog and took his time to get to know us here at Hicklins Hound Care!
Safe to say, after a swift 24hrs with us Blue has made his mark and really come out of his shell, a positive experience with the knowing that his owners are coming back right now to get him!
These owners 100% did the right thing in having a trial night for Blue as it really helps the dog to understand the setting and feel more comfortable when they come back for a while!
Can’t wait to see this puppy grow! See you soon mate!🐾🟩

Fireworks🎇

Is your dog scared of fireworks? If yes, NOW is the time to start helping them.

You may think I’m crazy, but people always pop up the week before Bonfire Night worrying about what they can do to help their dogs cope - and by this point, it’s too late!

Start building confidence now, start conditioning them to the sounds and emotions of those scenarios.

Healthy Dogs! 🐾

We live in a generation where it is acceptable to over feed your dogs or have over weight dogs, probably due to the increase in different ‘treats’ available on the market.

The amount of dogs I see on a day to day basis that are overweight due to owners not being able to resist those puppy dog eyes, giving extra treats or scraps of food off your plate, or simply by feeding in excess.

In my eyes it’s cruelty.

You are will fully knocking years off your dogs life by creating obesity, which leads to so many health problems and a shorter life expectancy.

Love your dogs for longer.

Accommodations for Reactive Dogs!

I get a lot of messages asking, do I accommodate reactive dogs and how it’s all going to work if I have dogs myself.

Reactive dogs need somewhere to go as well and I would never turn away a dog because of its reactivity issues, as with the correct management and work put in prior to their stay it won’t be an issue at all! Mainly because I don’t allow all dogs to just run riot arounthe house with no rules or boundaries.

There is such a bad stigma around reactive dogs and it’s just not fair, you don’t know what that dog has been through be it attacked, abused or just struggling with its emotions, the list really does go on and they deserve to go everywhere a non-reactive dog goes too.

With that being said it’s important to not be having reactive dogs over threshold’s for days on end so work prior to stays at kennels or homeboarders is the most crucial part.

Get your dogs acclimatised!!👊🏼

Let’s talk about the importance of Crate Training 🐾

Here we have a very strict rule that when dogs are left unsupervised they have to be crated.

People have the idea in there heads that crates are cruel and I’ll hear things like “I’m not locking my dog away in a cage it’s not fair” but, all I see when a dog is crated is safety and a place of proper rest.

Just think…..
- They can’t chew and swallow anything dangerous
- They get to have decompression time
- andd they can’t get into any altercations with other home boarders / family pets

Conditioning your dog to a crate is so important if your dog has to go to the vets for surgery where guess what, they are they going to be crated before and after and will be advised for proper home rest.

Why not condition it even if you are not going to use it from day to day, to save your dog so much stress if something was to happen!👊🏼

Just a reminder to get your dogs booked in advance if you’re planning on leaving them this year!
Last year we had a LOT of last minute bookings that we had to turn away simply because we couldn’t accommodate at such short notice.

Booking in advance makes sure that you can
- view Kennels/Homeboarders beforehand
- think about a trial afternoon / evening
- avoid disappointment for your much needed holidays!

Meet the Hicklin’s Hound Care family ✅

We are Jake & Sophie and we absolutely love the dogs life 💚🐶

We have two dogs of our own:

Sykes (English Bull Terrier) at just over 2 yrs old; whom we had from a pup. He is our pet dog and currently working through Obsidian K9’s Overture Programme.

& Widow (German Shepherd) at 1 years old, we’ve not long had her with us but she came ready and raring to get stuck into the world of working/sports.

Our dogs are kept seperate from our home boarders due to their training requirements, we will only ever have them with your dogs at your discretion and then (when possible) for training purposes!

It was so much fun having this young gal with us for the week, and by gosh did she put us through our paces
Young Billy is only a few months old and came to us being strange around other dogs… this week we have strategically had her amongst other dogs and even on a walk with no bother!
Such a happy puppy with so much love to give, we can’t wait to see her grow up👌🏼🟩

What a pleasure!!
It was a long weekend away for Miggy at last minute but we made it work and my gosh did he make us laugh! Oh and nearly ate us out of house and home🤣

Cleo🐶🟩

Cleo’s home boarding is a special one.
Cleo was previously Human Reactive and Jesse had a holiday planned, so work was put in by us and Jack Tutty at J&P…months in advance to make sure her stay was safe, comfortable and enjoyable!
She was a pleasure to have and it was amazing to see her soft side come through. Can’t wait for the next visit
