Fran, one of our student veterinary nurses, has had an amazing few weeks volunteering in South Africa with wild animals!

Fran went on a 2 week veterinary trip working alongside the reserve animal management team. She worked with 2 vets to help create a cast for a prosthetic leg for a rhino that was attacked by lions, gave lions contraceptive implants, went out with rangers to locate animals using telemetry devices, game counts of the big 5 and prey species, night game count for nocturnal animals, set up camera traps to track animals around reserve - saw leopards, sivet, serval, aardvark, jenet, bush walks with the rangers amongst rhino, zebra, giraffes, wilder beast, waterhogs and monitored elephants for behaviour and sizing of individuals!!

What an incredible list of things to experience!

We are proud to announce that, due to Sian's hard work, Maltman Cosham Veterinary Clinic has been accredited as a Dog Friendly Clinic! 🐾

The Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme has been set up by Dogs Trust and The British Veterinary Behaviour Association to help vet clinics and owners make every dog's veterinary experience the best possible 🐕

Many dogs find vet visits stressful, which can result in them being unwilling to enter the clinic, being difficult to examine, and worried during treatment. The Dog Friendly Clinic scheme helps staff develop further dog behaviour knowledge and skills so they can recognise and address early signs of anxiety and improve the welfare of dogs whilst in the clinic 🩷

We are always happy to discuss any concerns you have regarding your dogs visit prior to your appointment. In some cases, pre appointment sedation may be suitable 🐶

How absolutely gorgeous is Bilbo the Tibetan Terrier. He visited us recently to have his nails cut!

Since he is still a puppy, we want to make sure that every visit is enjoyable for him. We suggested getting regular nail trims so that he becomes accustomed to them and feels at ease while at the practice 🐾
