๐จ Kennel Cough Outbreak in Huddersfield ๐จ
Weโre currently seeing a rise in Kennel Cough cases โ a highly contagious condition that causes a harsh, hacking cough in dogs. Many owners describe it as sounding like their dog has something stuck in their throat.
๐พ Symptoms:
Coughing, reverse sneezing, retching, and foamy mucus (often mistaken for vomiting). Some dogs may have a fever or seem under the weather, though many remain lively and energetic.
๐ฌ๏ธ How it spreads:
Kennel cough spreads easily through social contact โ on walks, at the groomers, kennels, or anywhere dogs mix closely.
๐ Prevention:
We recommend an annual kennel cough vaccination. If your dog hasnโt had one in the last 12 months, nowโs a good time to book in. The vaccine we now use is given by mouth (orally), rather than up the nose, making it easier for most dogs to tolerate.
โImportant:
If your dog is showing signs of coughing, please keep them away from other dogs. If you have an appointment and we suspect kennel cough, youโll be asked to wait outside the practice to help prevent spread to other patients.
