🚨 Kennel Cough Outbreak in Huddersfield 🚨

We’re currently seeing a rise in Kennel Cough cases – a highly contagious condition that causes a harsh, hacking cough in dogs. Many owners describe it as sounding like their dog has something stuck in their throat.

🐾 Symptoms:
Coughing, reverse sneezing, retching, and foamy mucus (often mistaken for vomiting). Some dogs may have a fever or seem under the weather, though many remain lively and energetic.

🌬️ How it spreads:
Kennel cough spreads easily through social contact – on walks, at the groomers, kennels, or anywhere dogs mix closely.

💉 Prevention:
We recommend an annual kennel cough vaccination. If your dog hasn’t had one in the last 12 months, now’s a good time to book in. The vaccine we now use is given by mouth (orally), rather than up the nose, making it easier for most dogs to tolerate.

❗Important:
If your dog is showing signs of coughing, please keep them away from other dogs. If you have an appointment and we suspect kennel cough, you’ll be asked to wait outside the practice to help prevent spread to other patients.

This is not your usual day-care chaos scenario, and with an experienced behaviour savvy lady at the helm it's like finding a magical unicorn in the world of doggy day-cares! Can't recommend highly enough. Your dog won't come home exhausted from stress, but tired out after learning and socialising in the right way all day. Kudos and hats off to Paws and Pals, this is the only doggy day-care near here that I recommend (and the only one I've found that does things differently).

We hope that everyone knows us well enough to know that we really hate to let you down, and the decision to cancel your bookings doesn't sit well with us 😔

But safety is a priority, and we will not put anyone with or without paws at risk.

You all know that the road to the day care centre is an interesting one, to say the least. The land slide has added an extra element of fun this year, so we have had to take this factor into the risk assessment. None of us fancy sledging down it or ending up in the canal 😬 We have also had the extra joy of a tree collapse into the road under the weight of the snow this week.

So, we will continue to update you on the status of the road and whether we will remain closed.
