Unfortunately due to the last couple of days weather the ground conditions are not safe for the clear round that we had planned is CANCELLED.

We will be looking at holding days during next week’s half term, look out for updates soon.

⏰ We will be holding our first Clear Round this coming weekend on Saturday ,12 o’clock start 60 cm changing up every hour to 90 cm .There is also a working hunter clear round running along side.
Turn up at the time that you want.!!

🛑Grass 🛑

This picture is in my paddock !!

I preach this to my clients :

Clover & rye grass is probably one of the worst combinations you can have in your horses field. Rye grass is for cattle. Not for horses.

If your horse suffers with sunburnt noses, aggression, drooling, stallion like behaviour, hormonal mare, musculoskeletal problems. Have a look at your grass. Look for clover. White or red.
Clover doesn’t care what breed/type of horse you have. It affects all.

Feeding Rye hay/haylage is also not a healthy choice.

We often don’t have a choice though because of the yard we are on. Some would say ‘so move’
But It’s not always that easy. Personal circumstances don’t often allow it.

So we have to do our best for our horses. We have to work with what we’ve got.

For the first time in 45 years of having horses in my life Iv had to use a muzzle on my horse. I already restrict his grazing. The grass has been lethal this year.
For the vigilant owners like myself
it’s like a losing battle an emotional rollercoaster of worrying. Even sleepless nights. Checking pulses, feeling for heat, watching how they move any change of consistency in the droppings 🤦‍♀️

Some say it’s cruel to use a muzzle. But I’m a prevention is better than a cure owner.
I say it’s cruel to leave them on lush stressed grass & clover at the risk of the above issues aswell as
Obesity
Laminitis
Ems
Hind gut issues etc

We are due the Autumn flush so please be vigilant & help your horse.
Adding salt
Magnesium oxide
Activated charcoal ( research if on any medication)
Look at suitable supplements & a liver support to help them at these critical times 🙏

We will be unable to have spectators or pets on the day ,and kindly only bring with you grooms or essential persons needed..

Well the man himself Ben Hobday is coming to Keeps Cottage Cross Country Training. Ben is looking at dates that fit with his busy Eventing schedule as you can imagine so the dates haven’t been fixed but he will be here we can assure you of that. We are really excited to have someone of his level here ..😁😁

Currently looking at last week of July or first week in August.

We will be holding a 3 day clear round showjumping starting this Friday and finishing on Sunday.

Each day we will start at 11am and finishing around 4:30 starting height will 60cm and changing every hour up a max 110cm

Just arrive at the height you want to be jumping..

We are finally open for new season 😊… X Country is open from today, Showjumping and Dressage from next Saturday 6th.
We have installed some smaller jumps for our younger riders and can’t wait to see you all..!!!
