As we hit the end of another week, we’d like to apologise for a quiet week on here- we have been too busy being in the road and have had a bit of a tough week with our own ponies. We have taken a moment to treasure the spring sun, and will hit go again next week. The benefit of vet animals is they always provide good case studies. Enjoy the sun this weekend, and give your horses an extra cuddle from us!

Little Rudy had a big day on Monday. Weighing only 60kg and being only the size of a big Labrador Rudy is a BIG man in a tiny body! The joys of spring and the dressage mares on the yard 👩‍❤️‍👨had lead to Rudy knowing all about his 🍒 and it was time for a little snip! Under a quick anaesthetic Grace helped Rudy become a few grams lighter 🥜 and he recovered with the aid of Laura snuggles. Now is the perfect time of the year to castrate your colts before the flies 🪰🦟 come. Give us a call to discuss how we can help!

Introducing our Vet Charlotte on her first official day! “I started begging my parents for riding lessons at around the age of 5 and although it took a few years I’ve never regretted the effort as it put me on the path to a career I truly love! I get so much enjoyment out of working with clients to get the best outcomes for their horses and I cannot wait to get started with you as a locum.
My main interests are in helping horses feel comfortable with their vets as well as a growing interest in dental work and poor performance.
Outside of work you can find me going to the gym, reading or spending time with friends and family. I also love a walk with the family dog who always keeps me laughing – as those of you who have seen him come to work with me may know he is a big goofball.”

Introducing our zone days! Launching on the 1st April, our zone days will help us be more environmentally friendly and you save some money on your routine treatment. Our 4 zones are formed by using the major roads, so it’s really easy for you to know which zone you are in and each month you will be able to choose between a Tuesday or Wednesday. Our special offer in April gives you a chance to meet us and see if we suit you! 🐎 Remember though, any time we see more than 4 horses on one yard there is no visit fee (and this doesn’t need to be just for routine treatments!) call the office on 01473970393 to get booked in 🦄

Next up to introduce is Laura, who has the hard job of keeping us organised both in the office and assisting with visits on yards!

“I started riding at the age of 7 and fell in love with horses and I’ve been hooked since. I got my own pony at 13, then in 2008 I was lucky enough to buy my perfect horse, Katie. We enjoyed eventing together and in her later years we loved hacking out with my daughter on her pony Darcy.

My main interests are youngstock and rehabilitation, watching horses grow, gain trust and confidence

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, forest rides and skiing.”

Over the next few weeks, prior to our opening on 17th March, I will introduce you to the of Starling Equine Vets team. (Reluctantly) I will start with me!

I have been in love with horses (and most furry things) for as long as I can remember, and always been fascinated by how to “fix” problems, so from a young age was determined to be a vet.

I have ridden since I was a child, and was lucky enough to have my own pony in my teens, and have a passion for eventing… Molly, my coloured mare, taught me the ropes and gave me the eventing bug, which I hope in time will transfer on to Dermot. Dermot is a big black warmblood, who I have backed and “produced” myself. He is a slow burner, but the most handsome, kind, horse and in time I hope we will be flying cross country. My love of the sport definitely influences my job.

I am particularly interested in lameness and performance issues, and how many factors fit into how the horse and rider interact together.

The other little pony is Katkins, who I took on last year to prevent being put to sleep. She is only a baby but is the sweetest little pony, with a kind, calm temperament of a horse much older.

When not with horses my family and I will be in one of our favourite places, walking the dogs by the sea.

Happy Valentine's Day! We hope your day has been as romantic as Kip and Dermots! We have had a busy week unpacking new kit, having the truck drawers fitted out and assembling office furniture, all ready to be on the road and get meeting everyone on 17th March. If you haven't seen already, we are hosting a client evening on 27th February, which as well as being very informative will also have an amazing raffle with some very cool prizes and lots of lovingly handmade cakes!
