โ€œWhat I am looking for when I am riding a horse of any level, a green c**t or an experienced bridle horse, is for him to stay centered underneath me. When Iโ€™m riding, I draw an imaginary rectangle around my horse; there is a line in front of his nose, one on each side of him, and one behind his tail.
On a green horse the sides of this rectangle might be five feet out from his sides and on both ends. On a bridle horse the lines might be right at the tip of his nose, inches off my stirrups and right behind his hindquarters. One of the things I am trying to accomplish during my ride is to have my horse in the exact center of the rectangle.โ€โ€ฆโ€ฆ.. for the rest of this article by Buck Brannaman click below ๐Ÿ‘‡

""When a lot of folks can't get a horse to operate on a feel, in a snaffle, what most are going to tell you "hell, get a little more bridle, get a little more shank on it, get a chain on it" and then when he's really wanting to flip over then "tie his head down". If he really runs into the tie down then "get a bicycle chain over his nose".............I mean it DOESN'T STOP, IT BECOMES MEDIEVAL WHAT THEY DO.
But when you get a horse to where he's operating on a feel; it doesn't make much difference what you have.
Whereas a lot of people leave the snaffle bit because they flunked out, they failed...............and then they go and get another bit.
Of course these tack salesmen love that. They go and get another bit and then they flunk out in it, ruin their horse. Then they ruin them in that, then get another bit and then pretty soon they've got a whole wall full of bits and they still can't operate the damn thing.
All that money they've wasted on bits; they could've probably bought a decent saddle for the horse so he didn't have to put up with the junk they were riding in. Now that would have been something that would have been worthwhile.
So if you don't get it done in the snaffle (the basics that a horse needs, the fundamental movements that all horses need to do for whatever you have in mind for them) before moving on to something else, well............you're not going to get it."" - Buck Brannaman.

We'd like to send our condolences to Buck and family for their recent tragic loss of horses. Our thoughts are with you during this deeply distressing time.

For those not aware, Reata Brannaman posted the following 'As if 2020 hasnโ€™t been hard enough, our family suffered a terrible loss of 3 of our horses on the road with dad as well as one of Robbieโ€™s. Sad and terrible day for everyone involved. Dad and Robbie are uninjured; aside from broken hearts. We ask that you allow us privacy and to regain our footing from this tragic ordeal on our own. We ask that during the following weeks, allow Buck the closure by not asking for details, allow him to teach and move forward. As you all know, our horses are our lives and we owe everything to them. We are beyond blessed that we have 3 amazing horses that will follow in the footsteps of their brothers that came before and left us all too soon. Dad will be continueing on with his clinics starting this weekend with Boozy, Tito and Shooter. All we ask is for everyone to say a prayer so god knows that those three horses waiting at heavens gate are ready for him to swing a leg over and enjoy as much as we did'.

โ€œMy teachers used to tell me you need to learn to adjust to fit the situation. Don't just do what you've always done because it might not always work.โ€ - Buck Brannaman

โญ๏ธ THURSDAY THOUGHTS โญ๏ธ

"Make sure that every time you take a hold of the horse, you have a point; you have a legitimate reason for doing it rather than it just being accidental or you not being aware" - Buck Brannaman

Do you have a 'flexible' plan when it comes to everything you do with your horse? If someone were to ask you what it is you're trying to achieve with your horse, could you give them an answer? Whether it's bringing them in from the field or working towards a high school movement, it's a good exercise to be mindful of what we are doing with and for our horses.

๐ŸŒŸ THURSDAY THOUGHTS ๐ŸŒŸ

We thought this Buck Brannaman quote was quite apt at the moment.

โ€œI realized that there are some things about all of us, no matter where we're from, that connects us as humans. We're looking for the same sorts of contentment in our lives and while some people are searching a little harder than others, we're not all that different.โ€

Stay safe everyone.

Our Story

We are delighted to confirm that Buck will be returning to Aintree International Equestrian Centre, Liverpool L9 5AS from Friday 7th June to Sunday 9th June 2019 delivering Horsemanship 1 & 2 clinics.

There will be 2 horsemanship clinics each day, morning and afternoon with approx 25 riders in each clinic. Buck will also be riding a different horse for the morning and afternoon sessions to demonstrate the exercises to the riders and spectators.

The clinic will be progressive with the same people riding each day and building on what has been learnt on the previous day. The morning session is for people who have either not ridden with Buck previously or are on green horses. The afternoon session is more advanced for those who have ridden with Buck before.

Buck has an amazing ability to be able to captivate the horse he is riding, the riders and the spectators. The clinics are informative, educational and entertaining. One for the diary and not to be missed!
