It was a pleasure to host the Sheep Vet Society “Sheep Meet” last night at Farm Gate Vets, an interesting line up of speakers and topics including losses to the fells caused by ticks, the impact of SBV virus on farmers, iceberg diseases in flock health planning, adding value to wool, EBV’s and incidences of severe orf cases.

FARM VET NETWORK TALK ANNOUNCEMENT - TUESDAY 5th NOVEMBER 🐄🐑

Farm Vet Network are this year’s LFAVS sponsors and will be giving a talk on “Big Picture Thinking” - What impacts decision making on farm. The content will be around comparing a gold standard approach with reality on farm and things you will quickly learn on your first job.

The talk will be given Rebekah Carling (2016 qualified) and Alex Vayro (2024 qualified and 2 months into the job).

Last month some of our vets met on farm to explore how systems such as Sensehub, compliment stockmanship with data for adult cattle and young stock on farm. Thanks to MSD, Greenrigg Farm and Belle Vue Vets for hosting.

Thank you to all the team at SRUC Dumfries for hosting a fantastic Vet CPD afternoon for Farm Vet Network yesterday. We heard about disease trends this spring, had top tips on sampling techniques from post mortems and a lab session on parasitology and abortion investigations. All our practices send samples daily to the SRUC lab so it was good to meet the staff involved. Thank you to Claire from MSD for supporting our trip which ended with a lovely curry in Dumfries.
