Do you love animals? 🐾 Would you like to join our volunteer team at Animal Rescue Cumbria and support the cats and dogs in our care?

We are looking for caring and committed people to help at our busy shelter.
Current opportunities include:

🐶 Dog morning routine (starts 8am)
🐕 Off-site dog walking (9.30am)
🐕‍🦺 Dog cuddling
🐱 Cat cuddling
🐾 Cat evening routine (starts 3.30pm)
🐾 Dog evening routine (starts 3pm) – Friday and Sunday volunteers needed most!

Oskar, or as he's more commonly known 'Unsinkable Sam' was a cat who served as a ship's cat during WW2. Initially onboard German ship Bismark, Oskar survived the sinking of not only Bismark but also HMS Cossack and HMS Ark Royal. ⛵

When HMS Ark Royal was sank, Oskar was found floating on a plank and described as 'angry, but quite unharmed' and he lived out the remainder of his life in a sailor's home in Belfast until his death in 1955. 🐈‍⬛

We do often say that cats have 9 lives, and Unsinkable Sam is a good example of why this may just be true! 💙

Meet the wonderful Finn, a 6 month old Lurcher Cross who is searching for a family to call his own!

🐕Finn is an active young boy with lots to learn, he will need a confident, experienced owner to help him learn that the world isn't so bad.

🐕Finn would like his new owners to be around most of the time to help him settle in.

🐕He would love an active family who can take him on adventures.

🐕Finn is very clever but because he is still a puppy he can sometimes get over excited and loose focus.

As people ring in the New Year tonight, there's likely to be some fireworks which may cause your pet some discomfort so remember it's always wise to create a safe, quiet area for your dog or cat in the quietest area of your home, play some relaxing music such as the Classic FM 'Music for Pets' playlist, or offer them a calming supplement such as Nutracalm, available through your vet. 🐶🐈

CHRISTMAS EVE 🎅

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the rescue
Not an animal was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung on the kennels with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The cats and dogs were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of their forever homes danced in their heads!
