I’ve been confined to the workshop making beautiful things during this weeks cold weather. It’s not because I don’t like cold weather before you ask. The reason is that neat cement can’t be used outdoors in temperatures like this.

The granite memorials get very cold and freeze the water in the mix before the chemical hardening process is complete, thereby weakening the joints.

So here’s a ground anchor installation, this stainless steel peg & tube device prevents the sudden collapse of a memorial. For example even if in a hundred years time it is leaning over at 30 degrees due to heave from tree roots. It’s a safety device for lawn type memorials that gives peace of mind and is just one of the key elements in compliance to BS8415

Apologies for not sharing anything on our page since the passing of my father last year. It’s been a difficult and incredibly hectic year but I think it’s time to start sharing again.

On a very positive note, here’s a little practice piece that my youngest daughter has carved with hammer & chisel ready for next years NAMM craft awards. I’m hoping she’ll be the 6th generation of Mason to carry on the tradition. Not bad for 15 years of age!

We will be closed all day Friday 18th August for the funeral of Clifford Penrose Everingham.

He cared for many families across East Yorkshire and beyond over his 57 year career, so now it is our time to honour him.

The service will be held at 11am at St Augustine’s church in Hedon before internment at the Ivy Lane Cemetery. Followed by refreshments and a celebration of his life in the Hedon British Legion on Magdalene Gate.

With great sadness I have the duty to inform of the passing of Clifford Penrose Everingham on Friday 20th July 2023.

He was the 4th generation of our family to serve as a memorial mason in this business and the longest serving of over 57 years. He was always kind, compassionate, skilful, hardworking and dedicated. I’m pleased to say he was the first previous generations that managed to retire, aged 72, but he was never far away from where his heart lay.

We have a lot to thank him for and he will always remembered fondly by families that we have helped over the years.

Funeral will be Friday 18th August, 11am at St Augustine’s Church, Hedon before burial at Ivy Lane Cemetery.

Our family would also like to invite everyone who knew Cliff to Hedon British Legion so we can all celebrate his life and share memories of a life well lived.

Nasty surprise found inside this old concrete foundation when we removed a memorial for an additional inscription, panes of broken glass! Obviously incredibly dangerous to handle but also seriously weakened the foundation too.

This is why we have a British Standard to specify exactly how memorials are constructed from the ground upwards.
