Baby Beaks Garden Bird Rescue I care for orphaned & injured garden birds and am fully licensed with Fife Council FC291.

Hi, I've got 24 years experience in wildlife rehabilitation and 18 of those years was at the SSPCA wildlife rescue centre, where I was Head of the Bird Section.

Another great release 🎉... this Pigeon was rescued by Sharon in Perth after getting tangled in string. He had a drooped wing and was exhausted after struggling to free himself. However after a few days of recover he was good to go!

Sharon's daughter had the honour of releasing him, it was her birthday 🎂 .... and there's no better way to celebrate a birthday than to do a Pigeon release!!

There's still a few more releases to be planned and a lot of baby pigeons moving through the system!

Another fantastic release! 🎉 This adult Feral Pigeon has spent a few weeks here recovering from a shoulder injury. It was really nice to see him get back home to Kirkcaldy. He certainly flew out the box really quickly!

I've also managed to get 2 Wood Pigeons released, one that was handed into Kingdom Vets at the beginning of the month. The other one was rescued in Cupar around the same time. They both grew up together and got released together!

Here's another victim of the recent storms. A hatchling Wood Pigeon was blown from its nest in Dalgety Bay. Unfortunately its little sibling didn't survive the wind and rain and was lying dead next to him.

Luckily a passer-by, Sandra noticed the tiny ball of yellow fluff and realised the baby was still alive!

She rushed him up to me in the stormy weather and I'm pleased to say he's doing really well. He's the youngest one in at the moment 🐣🥰

Thank goodness this baby Pigeon DID go to Specsavers 👓....and was rescued! ....The staff at Specsavers in Dunfermline rescued this little wood pigeon after he had been blown from the nest during the storm at the weekend.

They popped him in a box and managed to get a vet nurse to check him over who then rushed him up to Baby Beaks.

As you know I'm full at the moment so the baby is sharing the brooder with a Feral Pigeon nestling.

The storm has left many nests destroyed and babies on the ground. I also recieved a tiny hatchling pigeon yesterday evening... but will tell you about that tomorrow 🐣

This poor juvenile Feral Pigeon arrived yesterday with a nasty looking peck wound to the back of the head. But the feathers were all matted with blood making the wound look worse than it really is. He's now on meds and tube feeds too, as he's not eating.

Many thanks to Lisa from UKWT for rushing to Dunfermline yesterday, after work, to collect him. Such a massive help! 🚗

For everyone following the story of the last House Martin, the decision was made to release him on Saturday! He was in excellent condition and was eager to go. He would have deteriorated if we'd kept him over winter. So we gave him his chance! Hopefully he can catch up with other late stragglers heading south.

So that's it...the official end of House Martin season!

I'm at full capacity with pigeons just now and am also getting ready for my licence inspection so will be limiting what I can take in over the next couple of weeks.

What happens when a baby Wood Pigeon and Feral Pigeon meet.... nuzzle time!!
They are both the same age and very over excited to meet another baby! 🐤🐤

Both came in individually after falling from nests and and have been separated from their sibling. Pigeons usually only lay 2 eggs. They are now both together and have already started pecking at seeds.... a bit of rivalry creates fast learners!

This is Percy the Pigeon from Kirkcaldy 🥰 He's hurt his shoulder after hitting a window. Percy managed to claim a spot in the aviary but I'm currently at full capacity with pigeons just now.... lots and lots of young ones that have either fallen from their nest or been attacked. Unfortunately I can't take them all as I would be overwhelmed.
I hope you all understand🙏 I'm hoping to create more space for pigeons, its a winter project 🤞

Baby season doesn't really end when there's pigeons about!

Just when you thought they were all gone.... another baby House Martin comes in! This little one was rescued in St Andrews on Saturday after he fluttered into someone's kitchen.

He had just newly fledged the nest but was too weak to fly properly. So was rushed over here.

Thankfully the wee baby looks a lot brighter and stronger now, (...the photo was taken when he first arrived) If his family are gone by the time he is ready he may need to be over wintered ❄️

It would be interesting to know..... do you still have any House Martins or Swallows around? I think the mild temperature is keeping them here a bit longer 🤔

This Feral Pigeon from Scone was rescued after surviving a Sparrowhawk attack. Even though it looks a dramatic injury there's only a few small wounds and tears in the skin and the rest is bruising and feather loss. The Sparrowhawk probably flew off with a talon full of feathers!

It will take a few weeks for this to all heal up. But in the meantime the wounds have been cleaned and he's on medication.

Space is very limited for Pigeons at the moment and unfortunately I can't take everyone. But I'm doing my best 🥰
