We did our first release of the year... the little female House Sparrow from St Madoes, Inchyra made a full recovery from her neck injury and was released this afternoon. We took her right back to the garden where she was found so she can return to her family/flock. We are so pleased that she's home.
She flew off so fast !!

There was Christmas drama when I was through at my mum and dad's house for coffee.... All of a sudden there 'arose such a clatter'... as something came down the chimney! It wasn't Santa but a Blue Tit.
My dad took this video as I rushed to get a box.
Thankfully he wasn't injured and after a quick clean up was released in the garden. The only presents he left were a few droppings ....Lets hope nobody else gets visited by 'Santa Blue Tit' 🎅🐦
🎶'Merry Christmas to you all and to all a good night!'🎶

Here's another release that happened last week ❤️ Our 3 House Martins flew off really well, there was a group of 10 flying high above the cottage so hopefully they teamed up with them.
We are going to have a break until Mon 16th Oct. We haven't had our honeymoon yet (we got married in 2019) so are heading to Greece next month. So to make things easier we're stopping taking new patients in until after we come back.
Things will get back to normal after that. Thanks for understanding.

Just when you think nestling season is coming to an end these two Bullfinch babies arrived! They were found on a footpath and rescued by Morag & Addie yesterday. I thought it would be nice to get a wee video when moving them to a new knitted nest. They have been named Fred and Ginger ❤️ I'm sure it won't be long before they're dancing around outside the nest!

This gorgeous Swiftlet was rescued after being found on the ground. He was overweight and must have fallen from his nest. We took a video when he first arrived.
Gradually his weight has dropped and he's been doing 'press ups' to strengthen his flight muscles. Over the past couple of days he's been eager to go, his weight, wing length and plumage is perfect.... but unfortunately the weather was not.
Thankfully today the sun is shining here, so we took the opportunity to release him. He flew so well and will spend all his time on the wing (even sleep flying) until maturity.

Remember the 4 Goldfinch nestlings that were rescued before being attacked by kids?.... I'm very happy to say they got released yesterday 👍❤️ We named them Wanda, Vision Billy & Tommy.
They've done so well and we're very strong. They absolutely loved munching on the ground up sunflower hearts we gave them and have already been spotted at the feeders in the garden! Enjoy your freedom in 'Westview'! (... just don't pass Ellis Ave) 😉

Here are more releases that have been happening recently. It's the turn of the Swallows and House Martins, including Tiny, Medium & Large and Tufty. We've had huge flocks of them congregating along the farm road and feeding above the fields, so these little ones have a lot of companions out there.

Well they don't get much smaller than this tiny hatchling Tree Sparrow 🐣 I definitely need magnifying glasses to feed this one! Thank you to Irene and family for rescuing him after falling from his nest and being found by their dog.

Took video of me opening the aviary hatch this morning to release the Blue Tits and some just couldn't wait to go! .... (additional commentary from my mum watching outside)
All 8 are up in the trees right now. The hatch will remain open today. Its been a real pleasure raising this lot 🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦❤️

Groot and his best pal Rocket got released a couple of days ago. It was so nice to see them fly off remembering their background stories. Got to love a Feral Pigeon 💖 such characters!

This is feeding time at 6am 💖 The little Great Tit nestlings have been given their brilliant MARVEL names by Luca.... T'Challa, Drax and Luna and they're getting bigger already.
You wouldn't believe how lifeless they were when they first arrived. Its lovely to see them grow.

Last night we collected a Feral Pigeon that had fallen from his nest in a Factory and was found in a puddle. Thankfully one of the workers rescued him and found help. His son is a big fan of Spiderman so that's his MARVEL name. It's 'Pigeon Rescue' here at Baby Beaks. Lots of 'Squeakers'.

Here is Margo, a lovely little Wood Pigeon from St Andrews, learning to eat seeds for the first time! Once she started there was no stopping her. She certainly doesn't need mummy anymore.
Baby Wood Pigeons are notoriously slow at learning to feed by themselves... but Margo has picked it up quickly, even though she still does the 'baby-flapping' 🥰

These 4 young Swallows were rescued after their nest had fallen just over a week ago. They are thriving and eating really well. The race is on to get them away so they can begin their migration in September to South Africa and Namibia. Did you know that Swallows can fly up to 200 miles a day and the lucky ones can live up to 16 years!
