Indi’s Story: Learning to Find Calm in a Noisy World
Hello there, my name is Indi. I’m a Welsh Terrier, full of bounce, brains, and sometimes a little bit of bluster.
When I was younger, the world felt very loud to me. Every clang, buzz, and bang seemed like something I had to take seriously. A loud car? People shouting? Dogs barking. Even the squeak of the ironing board made me leap to my paws, heart racing, ears high. I didn’t feel safe, and the only way I knew how to respond was to overreact—barking, jumping, pacing, doing anything to make the sound stop.
But then, something wonderful happened: my mum began to play fun concept games with me. They didn’t force me to be brave. Instead, they showed me how to look at those strange noises in a new way.
Instead of fear, there were games. Instead of monsters, there were treats. Instead of scary, there was fun.
With every session, I learned something important: noise didn’t have to mean danger. It could mean a puzzle, a chance to disengage, a moment to practice calm. Slowly, my feelings about sound began to change. The world got quieter in my head, even though it stayed just as noisy outside.
Now, when the cars squeaks or the humans roar, I take a deep breath (well, as deep as a terrier can!) and I calmly disengage. I don’t need to fight every sound anymore. I can rest, relax, and trust that I am safe.
So that’s me—Indi the Welsh Terrier. Not born the most optimistic, but with patience, play, and practice, I’ve learned to meet the world’s noises with courage and calm.
