TLH Cherub, another warm up area, a different jump and working with new company. Got a tadge quick and a little deep to the jump, but loved how he also got himself out of trouble and left the jump up!
TLH Cherub
Another warm up area, Making the most of the quiet time whilst riders walk the course.
Starting with a small jump to get his head in the game, before popping decent sized jumps,
Lots of questions, music and activity in the neighboring rings, there's also another warm up area that you can see at the far end, which is at a much higher level, which he could see the horses trotting round way above us, goodness knows what he thought π
A little tense, rushing, and drifting at times, love his willingness over a jump whilst thinking about so many goings on. He's very proud of himself and rightly so ππ¦
TLH Cherub, introducing a pole into his work, to help him focus, slow & soften, lots of questions asked, pole is quite narrow, it's also behind the busy hedge and in the shaded area, all developing his confidence and concentration
TLH CHERUB on his holibobs ππ
So whilst Hilkens Charismatic and Cadlanvalley Royal Celebration were doing the big boy stuff competing, we also took TLH CHERUB for his holibobs.
Cherub is a 6 yo that Petrina is starting out & producing. He was backed & ridden for a very short time and then given a break. He came back into work in June. So still quite green to his ridden life
What a 3 days packed of experience he had!! π Bless him
We had intended on getting him out previously, but unfortunately circumstances were against us, so this was his first outing, and he coped with it amazingly well!
He nearly had a kitten π when we he came off the lorry and was met by a speeding trolley rattling across the gravel with bales of shavings stacked high and a heard of kids sprinting past in flip flops ππ€£
By the time he came home, trolleys, kids, 100s of horses and people, lorry's, different riding areas, being ridden numerous times of the day, standing around and waiting were old news ππ
Video is of him in one of the quiet collecting rings, with horses in the back ground having a early morning hand graze, lots of interesting stables activity behind the hedge.
Petrina just aiming to get him to relax and settle into a rhythm, whilst also predicting his thoughts, to be fair to him, he was very good. Just a little rushed and a little wide towards the entrance and other horses. But a very good boy.
Blaenllain Dobbie Dude having soooooo much fun playing over fences.
Ps, this was his choice, he could have gone round them!

I ask the β to jump the fence in front of him, Charismatic responds in his way, praise π¦
His response may or may not be what I had in mind, my job as his rider and leader has so many responsibilities.
His go to is "a long stride", which you can see over the brush fence, my job as his rider is to do my job! Praise, reflect and make adjustments
Petrina deals with his big jumps and it's ripple affects really well, but for long term development it needs to be addressed
As the leader of the partnership we know what our plans are for our π¦, they have no idea of what lies ahead. We know what we want short and long term, and gently make tweak's and adjumets where nessacery. We will continue to improve what we want to develop which he will need as tracks become more challenging and as his dressage work requires more taxing movements and to keep him happy in his work.
Jumping and poles is a fabulous way to keep the sparkle and to open up over the back, flex though joints and use themselves all over . π
Petrina does a fabulous job of jumping Charismatic, he really does have a huge jump! Which in it's self, brings it's challenges and ripple effects.
Although an older horse, he's still relatively green in his jumping.
He has so much power and scope, he's still getting used to how to use it.
I hoped on to pop him over some fences, so I could get the feel of what he's doing and Petrina could see what he looks like
We could then chat and compare feelings and videos to work a way forward.
We discussed his responses to our β
We work as a team with our horses, watching and listen to our horses and act as each others eyes and guidance,
As a coach, trainer and rider it can be so important and beneficial to keep up with my own self improvement, being super critical of myself and always looking to improve. Using Petrina as my eyes and also videos and photos for us to analyse what we are doing, and if it looks how it feels etc
I'm riding Neo, working on my position and body awareness and also his flat work, he gets a little deep at times, but he's answering my β to soften, praise β
Petrina is riding Chad, he's a baby, so her aims are different to what she would have if riding a more educated and settled horse
Here she's just letting him have fun over fences, he's gaining confidence, steering skills, fitness and balance whilst enjoying himself β
He's also standing still whilst Neo does his bit. All skills we want π
I have space to take on clients, please pm me π
