Dog firework advice
Fireworks can be a source of fear and distress for many animals. Here are some of our teams top tips on how you can help your dog during firework season:
• Close all doors, windows and curtains and ensure your dog flap is locked
• Prepare a safe ‘den’ so they can hide when the fireworks begin, such as a
covered, open crate
• Ensure your dog is exercised during the day before a fireworks event
• Take your pet to their den area before fireworks start and sit with them
• Keep your pet indoors whilst the fireworks are being set off and provide
them with distractions, e.g. treats or toys
• Turn on your television or radio to drown out the noise of fireworks

Merry Christmas from Langford Vets Small Animal Practice
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone here at Langford Vets Small Animal Practice! See you next year! 🎄
Quiet Place
🎄🐾Tips for Christmas🐾🎄
Christmas is a busy time, with friends and family coming over who may accidentally let pets out or make them anxious. Help your pet by providing a safe, quiet space for your pet to take a breather. This could be a covered crate, nook under the stairs or a utility room.
Christmas presents
🎄🎁Tips for Christmas🎁🎄
Take care not to leave presents lying around that might get damaged or cause damage to your pets. Place items out of reach and tidy away string and ribbon.
Christmas decorations
🎄✨ Tips for Christmas✨🎄
Although pretty, fairy lights and baubles can pose potential risks to your pet, especially for chewers and climbers. Unprotected wires and decorations pose an electric shock and internal blockage risk, so it is important to supervise your pets when around them. Real trees will also start to shed their needles when they are in the house, which could also cause your pet digestive upset if ingested.
How you can help:
🎄 Restrict your pets access to the tree
🎄 Frequent sweeping of trees dropped needles
🎄Place your tree out of reach
Christmas treats
🎄🍫 Tips for Christmas🍫🎄
Be mindful of Christmas treats that could make your pets unwell, such as chocolate, Christmas cake or mince pies. These treats are toxic to your pet, so if you are worried that your pet has ingested any of these please contact your vet.
Christmas plants
🎄🌿 Tips for Christmas🌿🎄
Did you know some Christmas plants like poinsettias, mistletoe and holly are poisonous to your pet? If you are worried your pet has ingested any of these, please contact your vet.
🎄🐇 Tips for Christmas 🐇🎄
Whist you are snuggled up indoors remember your furry friends outside. You can help your outdoor pets by:
🎄Ensuring their housing is sheltered and insulated
🎄Making sure they have plenty of warm dry bedding, food and water.
🎄Making sure they have fresh, unfrozen water bottles
🎄Spending time with your pets so they don't feel lonely
🎄 Cleaning their toilet area daily to remove any damp, cold bedding
🎄If possible create a quiet, safe area for them to be in inside of your house during cold temperatures
