A BIG congrats to our colleague and equine expert Claire Chisman, based at our Harbro Turriff store, on a very special win at the recent Blair Castle International Horse Trials 🐎🏆🌟

Tylo Erebus, the 3 year old gelding owned and bred by Claire and shown by her partner Tom Marshall from Tylo Stud was Supreme of Show at NPS Scotland Finals held at the Defender Blair Castle International Horse Trials.

He's fed on our Horse & Pony Conditioning Mash and Horse & Pony Conditioning Cubes.

With the weather heating up this week, our equine specialist Kevin Mercer, based in Harbro Hawick, has some important advice for looking after your horse 🌞
Application of Suncream and Flyspray
🐴 Ensure that any pink areas on your horse, especially around the head and heel areas, are protected from the sun
🐴 Various products are available to protect your horse from the sun and flies but as with any new product, please test on a small area first to ensure there's no adverse reaction. Always fully read the instructions on products (even if you've used it before) to check application rates
🐴 Fly rugs and masks are also available should you have a really big issue with flies causing distress to your horse. Regular poo-picking in the field can also help reduce the attraction of flies to the area

Our equine specialist Kevin Mercer, based in Harbro Hawick, has some top tips for looking after your horse in this lovely warm Summer weather 🌞

🐴 Try where possible to exercise early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the warmest points of the day. Ensure after working that the horse is cooled down, ideally hosed or sponged down to remove sweat

🐴 Similar to the above, if you have to travel your horse, try to do this in the coolest part of the day, providing as much ventilation as possible. Ensure your horse is well-rested and hydrated before and provide fresh water on arrival

Our equine specialist Kevin Mercer, based in Harbro Hawick, has some top tips for looking after your horse in the warm Summer weather 🌞

🐎 Make sure your horse has constant access to fresh, clean water. This may mean adding an extra bucket into the field or stable, even if you have autofill troughs

🐎 Where possible look to increase airflow for stabled horses. If you're using things like fans to circulate air, gradually introduce to ensure horses become accustomed to the noise and the effect that the fan has so that it doesn’t spook them

🐎 Make sure during turnout that shelter and shade is available. Horses would use shelters more often in the Summer to get some respite from the sun and biting insects or flies

Due to changes in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations it is an offence for us to sell medicines without recording the following information:
• Species of animal
• Number of animals to be treated
• Weight of the animals to be treated
• Product name and active
• Dosage per animal
• Total amount prescribed
• Reason for selection of the product/active
For Horses and other Equidae please do not take offence but we must ask if the animal will be intended for the food chain or has been declared as non-food producing in their horse passport.
For Sheep dips we must also check the person purchasing holds a Certificate of Competence in the safe use of sheep dips.

New legislation in force from today in Great Britain makes changes to the requirements set out in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2013.

SHOP ASSISTANT/WAREHOUSE OPERATIVE
Russell's Country Store/Harbro Feeds is an Equine, Pet and Agricultural feed store situated in the Larbert area with a second farm store just recently opened in the Maddiston area. We are looking for a unique team player who is also willing and happy to work independently and has a good basic knowledge of animals and their needs.
The applicant will provide an excellent face to face sales and support service to our customers. Will be accurate, professional and efficient and give a high level of customer care and keen to display good product knowledge and understanding. (Training will be given). The applicant would operate our retail till systems and should have a good basic computer knowledge. The successful candidate will be trained at our Larbert store where they will become familiar with the shop, warehouse and products stored there. They will also be required to work at our new Maddiston Farm Store as required by the company.
Work days and hours will be discussed at interview- will include weekend work
A Clean Driving License is essential.
A Forklift license would be beneficial but not compulsory as training will be given.

Warehouse operative with up to date fork lift licence and clean driving licence. Duties would include picking and making up orders to be delivered and taking orders out to customer's vehicles. Loading and unloading lorries/vans with forklift.
Training will be given in the use of our till system. The successful candidate will be trained at our Larbert shop but will be required to work between warehouse and shop and on occasion at our Bowhouse store.
Hours & rate of pay to be discussed at interview.

If you have clipper blades needing sharpened they will be sent from Larbert on Tuesday the 11th of July!
Please hand your blades in clean, dry and oil free by 3pm on Monday the 10th of July!
