Fido's Treat

Fido's Treat Fido's treat has been walking your dogs since 2000. Fido's Treat is a small, friendly, well established Dog Walking Service.

It has gone through many changes oner those years, but several things which have always remained consistent are its reliability, trustworthiness, quality, and care of your dogs throughout the years. Founded in 2000, it has provided the dogs of Headingley and Meanwood with a wonderfully reliable, safe but fun walk, in the company of other friendly and well socialised dogs. All in the beautiful surr

oundings of The Hollies and Meanwood Park. With only 2 walks a day (always an hour), and just a small area covered, places are limited . However, once you've made it onto the register, your place is secure and your dog can look forward to regular enjoyable, woodland walks for as long as is needed.

Busy Monday.
Started the day with Freddy, Poppy, Rocket, and Kip.
Then having dropped off my 3 surrogates, Kip and I collected Juno.

Now this is the first time these two have walked together, and Juno was absolutely off her trolley with excitement. Poor Kip took her onslaught with good grace, and a few gentle warnings, but it was all lost on her, so she ended up doing much of her walk on the lead.
She eventually did calm down though, and got to have a fun play with Gino the lab, who she's met previously on our walks.
It was good to properly introduce her to a new walking companion, as in 2 weeks she upgrades to walks with her big sister and her new dog walker 💜

The truest of words 💜

“Just a dog.
From time to time people tell me “chill out, it’s just a dog” or “it’s a lot of money just for a dog.” They don't understand the distance traveled, the time invested, or the costs incurred by "just a dog".
Some of my proudest moments have occurred with “just a dog.”
Many hours have passed being my only company "just a dog", but not for one moment did I feel despised. Some of my saddest moments have been because of “just a dog,” and on those gray days, the gentle touch of “just a Dog” gave me comfort and the reason to get through the day.
If you also think “it’s just a dog”, then you’ll probably understand phrases like “just a friend”, “just a sunrise” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
For "just a dog" I will get up early, take long walks and look forward to the future. So for me and people like me, it’s not “just a dog,” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the memories of the past, and the absolute joy of the moment. “Just a dog” brings out the good in me and takes my thoughts away from myself and daily worries.
I hope one day they can understand that it’s not “just a dog”, but the one that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.” So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog”, just smile because they “just don’t get it”.

It's Friday !!!!!!
And all the Fido's were out today ❤️
Poppy, Fred, Rocket and Kip on our first walk, followed by some quality Juno time.

Have a lovely weekend everybody 🩵❤️🩵❤️🩵🐾🐾🐾

A very long, gentle stroll with just Poppy and Kip today.
Poor Kip overdid things with the charging around earlier this week though, so he's back on lead walks again 🤦‍♀️
A snippet of another long, pre-teatime walk at the end ❤️🩵

This was my Friday walk from last week. It was also my final working walk with my own beautiful boy Eli, who suddenly collapsed on Sunday morning. The emergency vet tragically discover he was bleeding from his spleen, which had a large mass on it. There was nothing that could be done, and he died in my arms at 3pm on Sunday afternoon, aged 10. My dog pound bestie of 9 years.

Fly high my gentle, faithful friend ❤️🌈💔

There's lots crammed into my Monday/Tuesday video today. I've included Juno's puppy time, AND... the new puppy who will be joining my walks next week ❤️.
Meet Poppy Cavapoo, who's just coming up to her first birthday, and is an absolute joy. Sweet natured, confident, playful and very happy. She joined us today with her mum, and slotted right in. I can't wait for her to meet Freddy next week though... 🐾🐾❤️

And the rain stopped.
And the sun came out.
And we were all so happy 🌞

Monday with Juno, and the walk was a little calmer than usual, which was entirely her decision.
She was so much gentler at taking treats but we seem to have lost the *Sit* since Friday - unless she gets paid for it 😄

Juno's calling the shots

A very wet Monday, and a pretty damp Tuesday.

We still all enjoyed ourselves though 😊

The end of the week with some Friday Juno time.
I've seen huge improvements in her behaviour in the last few days, as she's now understanding the benefit of taking treats while leaving your fingers still attached to your hand. She's also jumping up less, thanks to the training her family have put in.
I've been working on trying to hold *down* position for more than a mini-second, but it's so difficult when your excitement won't let your legs stay still.

Her recall on her walk is still fantastic, and she's better at returning even when she's so desperate to go an greet another person or dog.
She's such a lovable giddy kipper 💜
