She’s done it! Lula is officially in diabetic remission! ☀️ Lula found herself quite overweight, so has been on a journey of diet and lifestyle changes - and look how pleased she is with herself! 🥰 With the help of her dedicated foster family, Lula has reduced her weight gradually and the vet has given us the news we’ve all waited to hear - she’s no longer diabetic! ❤️

Lula is a very easy cat to love and is now looking for her forever home. 🏡

Her foster says she’s a dream to care for and just very laid back and easy going. She’ll need to continue her current diet once adopted and we think it would be better if she was the only cat in a home, so she isn’t tempted to pinch their tea. As much as Lula loves her food though - she loves fuss and cuddles above all else, so could live with children who are used to cats. To help continue her new found healthy lifestyle - Lula would like access to a garden or safe outdoor space to explore and relax in. 🪴

Despite Lula’s reduced size, she still has such a lot of love to go around - she’s such a sweet girl. We know the only reward Lula and her fosterer really want for this fantastic achievement - is a forever home for Lula. 🥇

🐾 If you could offer 13 year old Lula a loving home please complete her application form: https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=21111

🐾 Find out more about Lula and the home she hopes to find on our website: https://www.cats.org.uk/leeds -21111

Some days, are great days and you can’t help but smile (a thankful smile!) ☀️ Even though our posts can’t always be positive when cats are abandoned or unwell, or we’re quickly running out of essential supplies…we’re ALWAYS so grateful for the kindness we receive from our supporters.

Just the other week this Amazon delivery arrived of litter trays which are already being used by our kittens. Yesterday we received this kind donation of food, litter and other supplies. Some people hand deliver them to our centre or our shops, others post them to us but ALL donations are so, so appreciated and go towards helping our cats. The Royal Canin food in this photo is currently whisking its way to our maternity corridor, to support an underweight Queen and another Mummy whose babies are currently weaning.

So from all of us - to everyone who’s supported us in the past or recently - we just wanted to say a great big thank you for everything you’ve done. You’ve made a genuine difference. ❤️🐱

We think it’s safe to say these two are now the best of friends and will be thick as thieves from here on out! 💕🐱 Following the update from kittens Love-Hewitt and Anniston a few weeks ago - here’s a little about how another of the ‘Jennifer theme named’ kittens Lawrence has been getting on. ❤️

As you can see in the photos - Lawrence (now Korky), now has a new big brother and best mate for life with Red, who was adopted from us in March last year 😊.

Their family told us,

“He's doing great.

I think it's safe to say that Red and Korky are now friends 🐈🐈‍⬛🥰

These two ADORE each other. Red has taught Korky how to climb curtains...so I now have TWO criminals.” 😂 - let’s hope noone has to make a ‘kittizens’ arrest!

Are these not some of the most adorable photos you’ve ever seen! ❤️ Thank you to Red and Korky’s family for sharing them with us and letting us know how quickly Korky settled in! 🏡

Despite regular feeds, some of the Mum’s in our care are still a little underweight. 😢 Their kittens are true chunky monkeys and thriving ❤️ but sadly sometimes it can be at the expense of their Mummy’s overall condition.

We’ve found Royal Canin Mother and Baby cat can really help mother cats to regain their strength during nursing and support them to start gaining weight.

If anyone has any of this food that they no longer need, if you could please consider donating it to our Mum’s and babies we could start putting it to good use immediately. We’re sure there’d be empty cat bowls and appreciative faces all round! ☀️

🐾 It’s also on our Amazon wish list: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/1PQZO4G7F44T3?ref_=wl_share

Even if you’re not able to donate any food, please share this post for us in the hope we’ll reach as many people as possible.

🐱 Here are some of our current kittens who have had wonderful Mummies who have fed them around the clock and helped make them the happy, healthy kittens you see here. ❤️

Please note: some of the kittens in the photo have now been reserved. Some are available for adoption. If you’re looking for a kitten to join your family, please get in touch and we’ll send you an application form: [email protected]

Thank you 🙏

Golden oldies, mature moggies, senior kittizens…whatever your chosen affectionate term is for cats advancing in age - older cats can be a great choice when adopting and can bring a lot of love and happiness to a home. ✨

In honour of the upcoming Mature Moggies day on 16th June - here’s a little more about all our more mature cats and the homes they hope to find:

🐾 9 year old Minnie sadly lost her owner - she’s a very affectionate gentle tabby and white girl who likes to use her paws as a spoon 😂 : https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=22575

🐾 12 year old Kinder couldn’t be kinder - she’s a very friendly good natured cat with a true heart of gold (and a velvety black and white coat!) ❤️ : https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=22592

🐾 Millie is celebrating her 14th birthday TODAY with us. She loves to curl up on your lap for cuddles and dreams of finding her forever home during her afternoon cat naps 🌈 : https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=21962

🐾 Lula loves attention and always greets everyone with a welcoming miaow and a happy tail curl. She’s 13 years old and currently in a foster home. They think Lula is a lovely girl who will make a wonderful pet. In her photo she’s showing you her very best roly poly: https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=21111

Happy Mature Moggies day (almost!) If you have a golden oldie - please share photos below - we’d love to see them! 🐱

With all these beautiful seniors in our care, we’re running very low on Proplan senior biscuits - so if anyone has any senior food that they’re able to donate please - the cats would very much appreciate it. It would make their day in fact! 🐱

🐾 This is our Amazon wish list: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/1PQZO4G7F44T3?ref_=wl_share

Thank you as always for your support - it means so much to us and even if you’re not able to donate some senior food, please share our post to help our cats reach as many people as possible. 🙏

12/06/2024

Millie will be celebrating her 14th birthday with us on Friday 🎂 - we dearly hoped she’d find a home in time so she could commemorate this milestone in a home to call her own.

Although Millie is a senior cat at almost 14, cats can live well into their teens and even 20s sometimes so she’s by no means old - she certainly is golden though! Her pretty tabby and white fur is super soft and when she knows you she’s a very affectionate, loving lady - with just the right amount of purrsonality. ❤️

We think she’d love a birthday party where she was the guest of honour - she’s an entirely different Queen of Sheba (of the cat food variety!) who likes to snooze on the chaise lounge of your lap and after a slice of catnip cake - maybe she could play pin the tail on the mousey to round off the evening in style. 🥳

Could you be the one to offer Millie the ultimate birthday present of a new home?

Please share her post to help us reach as many people as possible - we promised her we’d try our very best for such a special occasion. 🎁

🐾 Apply to adopt Millie by completing her online adoption form: https://www.cats.org.uk/findacatform/?b=420&ncid=21962

💜 On Saturday we hosted a little get together for many of our fantastic volunteers at Leeds Cat Centre, to say Thank You, and to round off Volunteers Week celebrations in style! 😺

30 of our volunteers joined us for the afternoon, including some of our Cat Care Volunteers, Fosterers, Fundraising and Transport Volunteers! And for those that couldn’t attend, we hope to see you next time! 💜🐱

We really couldn’t achieve all we do for so many cats that need our help, without the incredible support and kindness of our wonderful team of volunteer superstars. They go above and beyond for cats each and every day, year on year, and their dedication and commitment never ceases to amaze and inspire us all on a daily basis. And we really can’t Thank them enough for everything! 😻💜

Can you remember tiny kittens Tiny and Buddy? When they arrived it was clear they were incredibly bonded so we were so pleased when they found a home together. Look at them today! Happy and healthy and having a wonderful time with their new family! ❤️

Now with their brand new names of Teddy and Mabel - here’s a little update on how they’ve been getting on since setting off for their forever home:

The update when they first went home:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much to all of your staff during our visit yesterday, they were so lovely with us and the kids absolutely loved their little pet packs ❤️

Teddy (Buddy) and Mabel (Tiny) have settled in so well, they have loved playing and have lots to explore and space to chase each other which seems to be their favourite thing to do! They have also been enjoying lots of cuddles, which we have loved.

After losing our beautiful cat Eric they have really helped to fill the hole he left and we are loving having little meows and purrs in the house again.

Thank you all again 🩷💙”

The update after a little time to settle:

‘They have settled in really well. We can't believe they have only been with us for 2 weeks, it feels like they have always been here. They still love to snuggle up together but have also been enjoying lots of cuddles with us! They love to sit on the back of the sofa enjoying the sun and watching the birds!

We can't wait to let them play outside in a couple of weeks but will definitely be investing in some bells for their collars (especially for Teddy)!

Thank you again to your volunteers who were there on the Saturday that we came to collect them, they were so helpful and the little goody bags for the children were much appreciated 🖤’

Thank you to their adopters for these gorgeous photos and updates - it’s always so special for us when we get to see our cats thriving in their new homes. 🏡

⭐️ Volunteers Week 2024 ⭐️

On Day 7 of Volunteers Week we would like to introduce you another of our amazing volunteers, Julia. Julia is a Cat Care volunteer at our homing centre, as well as one of our fantastic Fundraising Volunteers! Julia has been volunteering with us for over 5 years now which is incredible! Here is what volunteering at Cats Protection means to Julia.. 🐱💜

“Cats have always been a part of my life, from early childhood to the present, I can’t remember a time without one (or more!). A few years ago I retired, and volunteering for Cats Protection seemed to be an obvious choice to fill in my spare time. My volunteering duties have enabled me to learn more about them, as well as helping to care for them before they are rehomed. I love going to the centre every week. I look forward to meeting the new cats and hearing about the ones who have found new homes. I’ve also made new friends and met a lot of people who all share my love of these beautiful animals. Being in such company has helped my mental health and well-being and I plan to continue volunteering as long as I am able.

During the last year I have become involved in fundraising for our centre. I like helping out at events in the community. It feels good to chat to the public about the work we do as well as raising much needed funds. There are quite a few events coming up this summer which I hope will be well attended. I’ve currently given myself the challenge of making a scarecrow cat for the local Scarecrow Festival!

I find we are well supported at the centre. We are given regular updates on how many cats have been rehomed including photos and accounts of how they are doing. We also get invited to get togethers and training, which give us the opportunity to meet other volunteers.

I have included a photo of myself with one of the cats I recently got to know at the centre. She is 13 year old Millie.

Julia.”

We really can’t Thank Julia, and all of our incredible volunteers enough, and their continued support and commitment truly means the world to us and the cats! 😻💜

Day 7 of Volunteers Week 2024 and we are introducing you to two more of our fantastic volunteers, and first up today is Hema! Hema joined us last year as a Cat Care Volunteer at our admissions site and will be celebrating 1 year of volunteering in a few months time which is amazing! Here is what volunteering with Cats Protection means to Hema.. 🐱💜

“After losing my beloved rescue cat when she reached the age of 17 years (adopted when aged 2), there felt there was something missing. Tia had become a big part of our family and the house felt very empty without her presence. However, I was not in a position to take on another pet and I really missed that genuine loving interaction with an animal.

I started volunteering with Cats Protection 9 months ago. I help out for a few hours with cleaning pens, washing up and socialising with the cats. I love having the opportunity to interact with a range of cats and kittens and having the contact with animals without the pressure of committing to having one at home. I always come away feeling satisfied with having helped with something meaningful and feeling uplifted by the company of those beautiful cats.”

We really can’t Thank Hema, and all of our incredible volunteers enough, and their continued support and commitment truly means the world to us and the cats! 😻💜

Continuing Day 6 of Volunteers Week, we would like to introduce you to another of our amazing volunteers, Abi! Abi is a Cat Care Volunteer at our homing centre, our Supporting Cat Ownership Volunteer, as well as helping out with enquiries! Abi has recently celebrated 5 Years of volunteering with us which is incredible! Here is what volunteering at Cats Protection means to Abi.. 🐱💜

“I’m Abi and I’ve been volunteering at Cats Protection for the past 5 years! I started volunteering after my cat, Vic, passed away - he inspired me to help cats in need!

I am a Cat Care Volunteer but also oversee the Supporting Cat Ownership Scheme, which aims to prevent owners experiencing problem behaviours with their cats from having to relinquish them, through providing regular support and advice.

The best part of volunteering is helping the cats who are very scared to grow in confidence, and eventually see them being adopted!

Volunteering has also allowed me to get into university, where I’m now studying a bachelor of science in canine and feline behaviour and welfare. I’m hoping to become a clinical animal behaviourist when I graduate next year!

I’d encourage anyone who has a true passion for cats to volunteer. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding and definitely worth doing if you’re wanting to start a career in the animal welfare sector.

At home I have a cat called Bob and a dog called Theo!”

We really can’t Thank Abi, and all of our incredible volunteers enough, and their continued support and commitment truly means the world to us and the cats! 😻💜

“I started volunteering with Cats Protection as I love cats and have had cats all my life. I currently have 4 cats of my own and wanted to help other cats find forever homes.

As a volunteer at the admissions site, we help clean the cats pens, including litter trays and complete updates on them. We help with the washing up of the cat bowls and with the laundry and cat bedding etc. The best part of my time is spent stroking, playing and fussing the cats. 🐈

I would highly recommend anyone to volunteer as it is a highly rewarding role and everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly 😊.”

“I’ve had the priviledge of Volunteering with Cats Protection Leeds for nearly 6 years now and during that time I’ve enjoyed everything about the experience!

There is nothing I look forward to more in my week than coming to the centre on a Saturday, spending time with the team and helping Cats feel loved, comfortable and ultimately find their forever home that they so well deserve.

Over my years volunteering I’ve been warmly welcomed by everyone at the Leeds centre and I would encourage anyone thinking about volunteering to try it out as you can gain so much from the experience and really give back to animals in need.

It’s lovely to feel like you’re part of an extended family who have shared values in caring deeply for animals and helping make the world a better place for Cats each and every day. I look forward to many more years spending my Saturdays like this!”

Day 4 of Volunteers Week and we are introducing you to another of our fantastic volunteers, Vicki! Vicki helps out as a Cat Care Volunteer at our homing centre, as well as offering help with transport when she can. Here is why Vicki joined the team and what volunteering means to her. 🐱💜

“I reached out to volunteer at Cats Protection as I am a huge cat lover and I was dedicating a lot of my time to try and help cats where ever I could on social media etc. I felt it would be great to dedicate some more time to help Support Cats Protection wherever I could. I really value and see how much Cats Protection help cats have a much happier life, as well as helping people in difficult circumstances to be able to support their pets etc.

Volunteering at Cats Protection also really helped my mental health! Lots of cuddles with beautiful cats and seeing some very happy endings for cats that you create a bond with really is so rewarding!

Sometimes you fall in love with certain cats and it’s amazing to see the happy endings. I had a couple of those myself, including Mr Pie - my all time favourite boy! I would have taken him in a heartbeat if I didn’t have my own cats. Sloanie and Bear were also favourites of mine. I was volunteering the day they arrived and seeing how timid they were initially, then slowly coming out of their shells over the weeks and eventually sitting on my lap was lovely to see! I was also volunteering the day they were collected by their new owners. There were LOTS of happy tears from everyone that day ❤️.

I have met some amazing people and cats through volunteering with Cats Protection and I look forward to dedicating more of my time.”

Day 3 of Volunteers Week 2024 and we are introducing you to another of our amazing volunteers, Jenny! Jenny volunteers at our admissions unit and often kindly offers to volunteer extra days to help out when she can. Jenny has also just recently celebrated 1 Year of Volunteering with us! Here is what volunteering means to Jenny.. 🐱💜

“I started volunteering after my cat unexpectedly died. I couldn't face getting a new cat but desperately needed some cat time and cuddles! I saw the opportunity to volunteer and went for it. I was nervous at first, thinking I'd get too attached to each one and never want to let any of them leave. But thankfully there is such a high number of cats being rehomed, I barely have the chance to become too attached!

I have loved every second of volunteering - yes even cleaning the bowls and litter trays! It has been wonderful coming in every other week for the past year and meeting all the staff and volunteers (and cats obviously). Everyone is great to work with and there is such a variety of things to do and little cat personalities to meet. From the very confident, to the very nervous, to the more independent! Learning about different personalities and how to help each one get the best out of their experience in care has been invaluable. The training and other opportunities have been extensive also. I often go in to work on Mondays and show off some of the cats I've had the pleasure of spending time with, with my colleagues.

I think volunteering has given me something to look forward to, an opportunity to care for some really amazing animals, and the chance to meet some fabulous people. The wonderful emails we get each month with updates from the cats' new families really help you understand the impact you have had. And knowing how many have been given a fresh start and a happy home is a truly heartwarming feeling. I could not recommend it enough.”

We really can’t Thank Jenny, and all of our incredible volunteers enough, and their continued support and commitment truly means the world to us and the cats! 😻💜

On Day 2 of Volunteers Week and we are introducing you to one of our amazing volunteers, Steph, who has been volunteering with us for 2 years now! Steph is a Cat Care Volunteer at our admissions site, whilst also kindly offering to help with transport when she can. Here is why Steph joined the team and what volunteering with Cats Protection means to her.. 🐱💜

“Prior to taking voluntary redundancy and early retirement in 2022 I considered how I would fill my time once I had retired. My daughter, who had recently adopted a cat from Cats Protection at Gildersome suggested I volunteer there, and given that I absolutely adore cats and had always had at least two since I left home 35 years before, it seemed like an obvious solution.

I was initially hesitant as I thought volunteering would mean front line fund raising, I’m not a sales person, but she assured me they had volunteers looking after the cats.

A quick visit to the CP website showed a vacancy as a cat carer at the admissions centre in Leeds and I applied. Just a couple of weeks later I joined the team and was well and truly hooked.

My role is to help the staff with cat caring duties such as pen cleans, washing and cleaning bowls and litter trays and last, but definitely not least, socialising our wonderful cats in care. This can be anything from sitting quietly and talking to scared cats to playing with and cuddling those feeling more confident. Very different from my former paid role as a broadband product manager.

It is genuinely the most rewarding thing I have done and I love my time helping. I also had the most amazing opportunity to adopt another cat to our home who is the most perfect fit. Without the opportunity to learn about cat behaviour and spend time with so many cats with diverse personalities, I may have missed out on welcoming Dylan, our new addition, home.

I would strongly recommend anyone who loves cats and has a few hours a week to spare and wants to make new friends (human and feline) joins us.

Steph.”

We really can’t Thank Steph, and all of our incredible volunteers enough, and their continued support and commitment truly means the world to us and the cats! 😻💜

Volunteers Week is a time to recognise, celebrate and say Thank You to all of our fantastic volunteers who help us to help so many cats towards better and brighter futures. We really couldn’t achieve all we do without the hard work, support and dedication of each and every volunteer, so THANK YOU! 😻
