It can be challenging helping your horse lose weight or stop them from gaining too much when they are living out 24/7 so here’s a few tips for you:

•Restrict grass intake- this can mean turning out on a previously grazed field, strip grazing, using a grazing muzzle and spending some time in a grass free area to reduce calorie intake

•Track grazing system- aswell as decreasing calorie intake, this also keeps your horse more active moving forward to get access to their water and shelter

•Don’t starve them- even though you need to reduce the calories in your horses diet, a horse that’s losing weight still requires 1.5% of their body weight in fibre each day. If you want to keep your horse off the grass, you can give them soaked hay as a replacement, which needs to be soaked 12-16 hours to remove the water-soluble carbohydrates

Since 2005, the British Hen Welfare Trust has been saving and rehoming commercial laying hens throughout the United Kingdom. Working closely with leaders in the egg industry, the BHWT designed and developed the existing rehoming model, and to date we have rehomed over eight hundred thousand hens.
