The news none of us wanted ...... After a further course inspection at mid-day today (Monday), we have made the exceptionally difficult decision to CANCEL the 2024 Fernie Team Chase. Whilst the majority of the course is rideable, there are still too many wet and very soft patches which are not drying or improving fast enough after all the recent rain and saturated ground conditions ‐ AND, critically, the forecast remains very changeable for both this week and next with predictions of significant further rain in the Market Harborough area. We are devastated to reach this conclusion, but felt that an early decision was preferable, as the risk of continuing until closer to the event is too great in the circumstances. With huge entries and strong support from our commercial partners and sponsors at all levels once again, we were all looking forward to a superb day of team chasing in support of, and run by, The Fernie Hunt but yet again the weather has scuppered our best‐laid plans. As advertised previously, with the decision having been taken prior to the withdrawal date, we intend to issue refunds as soon as reasonably possible to all those who have entered (less the £10 admin fee per team). Let's hope for more luck in the future, and better conditions for the remaining British Team Chasing events of the season .... and thank you for the continued support of all those teams and individuals who had already entered. And finally a big thank you to the key members of the organising team, and our landowner, for their tireless hard work and support both this year and last without the ultimate prize of an event to run in either year. We will get back to winning ways in 2025!

Update (Thursday 28th March): After a dry week last week, and considerable progress with the ground conditions, the course preparation team have been in full swing this week and the site is beginning to take shape. We are confident that - weather permitting - we will be ready to roll with the event on Sunday 7th April despite the limited set-up window once again (but then again, we're getting used to that from recent year's experience!). We are also delighted to welcome on board new lead sponsors for the 2024 event in Voltalia, Watling JCB and Welland Valley Feeds. A big thank you to them, and we hope they are all able to enjoy the fabulous setting at Tur Langton, and a good day's Team Chasing with it. Clearly the continuing wet weather and associated ground conditions remain our biggest concern, and we will issue further updates over the Easter weekend as conditions on site progress. Please try not to speculate - as we are all doing our best to run the day, and support our fantastic sport. In the meantime, please keep all your fingers crossed that we can finally get the Spring 2024 British Team Chasing season underway .... even at this late stage of the normal season. 🤞🤞

After the disappointment of losing the Team Chase last weekend, at least there's an opportunity for some more equestrian action nearby very soon. Why not come to Dingley for a day's racing on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend ..... advance tickets now on sale ...

Welcome to the Midlands Area point-to-point tickets shop. Tickets are normally available until 7pm on the night before a meeting. Tickets for point-to-point meetings in the Midlands Area are provided by Future Ticketing for the 2022-2023…

Not the early finish we were looking for today, and ironically in such lovely weather too ....... thank you for everyone's supportive comments, and also to those who helped with dismantling the course and other spectator and equestrian areas without causing further ground damage.

We will be liaising with the Horse Events team with regards to refund arrangements for all classes and will make a further announcement on that front as soon as possible in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, roll on for the return of Big Time Team Chasing at Tur Langton in 2024 ... and a big thank you not only to everyone who helped out in the last few days, but also to our hugely supportive sponsors Welland Valley Feeds Sharnford Tractors Retraining of Racehorses NFU Mutual and many more besides.

With huge regret, conditions are not safe enough to run any part of today's event after nearly an inch of rain in 24 hours. Therefore we have no option other than to cancel completely. Further announcements will follow with respect to refunds and other matters. British Team Chasing

Friday evening update (8pm) - as those who have walked the course today will know, we have had far more rain than was ever expected (or forecast) for much of the day and a torrential downburst for about an hour and a half in the early evening. It continues to rain at present, and is now forecast to do so for a few more hours yet. This is presenting the most challenging of decisions for the organising team in all the circumstances.

Although the ground itself has taken the rain well so far, our ultimate decision as to how to proceed will depend on the volume of rain during the night. A dry day is forecast for Saturday, which brings some rays of hope.

We are conducting a further course inspection at 6.30am tomorrow morning, to assess conditions at that time. We will only go ahead with the event if it is safe and practical to do so. We already have contingency car parking arrangements in place to assist the lorry parks.

Whilst all options remain open this evening (from full cancellation to going ahead as planned, or even abandoning certain aspects of the day whilst going ahead with others), IT IS OUR INTENTION TO MAKE A FURTHER AND FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE DAY BY 7AM TOMORROW MORNING.

Please share these details with your team members, and watch both this page and the BTC page for the final confirmation.

Here is a few "good to know" points ahead of tomorrow's event:

⭐️The address for the event is Tur Langton Lodge, Cranoe Road, Tur Langton, LE8 0PD. https://w3w.co/somewhere.calls.flock
⭐️Spectators are welcomed throughout the day, from the start of the Novice Class at 9.20am onwards. The feature National Team Chase Championship 2023 is scheduled to start at 12.25.
⭐️There are 2 separate car parks. A forward-view car park, from which spectators can view the entire course (and listen to the public commentary) from the comfort of their vehicle – at £15 per car with up to 4 occupants. The car park offers a great opportunity for family and friends to bring their own picnic and enjoy it at their vehicle, whilst watching the main action as it unfolds in front of them. For those wanting to guarantee a space to watch the National Championship from the Forward Car Park, we recommend arrival by no later than 12 noon. Alternatively there is also a separate vehicle park at £10 per car, which is a short 2 to 3 minute walk away from the courses.
⭐️There will be a limited array of Trade Stands on the day and plenty of variety on both food and drink and a covered eating area for shelter from any poor weather.
⭐️The National Team Chase Championship is the most coveted prize in the sport each year, and the prize that every serious Team Chaser aspires to win. The much coveted “Goring Hotel Challenge Trophy” is awarded to the winner. Fox Grant Dot Com are the reigning National Team Chase Champions, and are determined to put up a good show in their quest to retain the title. 11 teams will fight out this feature between them.

And an interesting little bit of history to round off:
⭐️The 2023 National Team Chase Championship will be the 45th occasion that the coveted title has been won. From the first National Team Chase Champions in 1976, The Zetland Farmers, right through to the current year there have only been 23 different winning teams – but some famous names amongst them including The Forge Flyers, Relentless, The Fosse Manor Hotel team, Malt Mix Double Trouble and the Trifast Allstars.

We look forward to seeing you all there 🏆🐎

13/04/2023

Update on Thursday at 3pm - we had a further 3-4mm of rain on Wednesday afternoon, but that has been followed by a good drying day today. The courses have all been inspected by British Team Chasing's Course Inspector (Debbie Topping) and we are ready to run the event. All of the main infrastructure for the event is now in place.

Debbie will post her independent assessment of course conditions on the BTC page later today, but in the meantime the ground is broadly good to soft, with a few soft patches. From experience in the past it should still ride well on the day.

The courses will all be open for inspection from 8am on Friday morning (as advertised on the Schedule, and through Horse Events this week), but if possible please only drive as far as the usual car park on the reverse side of the hill on your arrival. Signs and ropes will help to guide you. If the ground is wet following any rain on Friday, cars can be left on the roadside for a slightly longer course walk! Please do not jeopardise the event by driving off-road across wet ground unnecessarily.

We are forecast some more rain during Friday, and overnight to Saturday, but will do our very best to enable the event to go ahead providing conditions are both reasonable and safe in doing so. As things stand, we are very hopeful that the National Team Chase Champions for 2023 will be crowned at Tur Langton on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to all the on-course action, there will be plenty of good food and drink on offer, with a selection of trade stands too.

A day not to be missed!

30/03/2023

The Spring weather has conspired against us for this Sunday, and therefore the National Team Chase Championship and Fernie Team Chase has had to be postponed by a fortnight until SATURDAY 15th April. With the day sold out , and a strong National Championship entry, this is obviously disappointing news.

We have had 15mm rain in the last 2 days, and more is predicted before the weekend, and therefore felt that an early decision would help everyone involved in the day.

All entries will stand for the new date, and we will be in touch with Team Captains via Horse Events to liaise about any team changes, withdrawals or supplementary entries. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday 15 April, all being well by then.
