❄️WINTER PET ADVICE❄️

🐶Keep your pets warm and active as the temperature drops - use warm coats, especially for your short-haired breeds.
🐾Grit and salt can irritate paws, wash those feet if they come into contact with it.
😿Keep antifreeze and de-icer locked away as this is extremely toxic!!!
🚘Cats sometimes hide under bonnets in winter, check before setting off.
🐰Consider bringing your bunnies/Guinea pigs indoors. Provide extra bedding and check their water isn’t frozen.
🎄Christmas - Poinsettas and Holly are toxic to pets, consider using fake plants.

⭐️ADVICE POST⭐️

Meet the beautiful Quinn 💙 I’ve been going to Quinn’s home for the last couple of years to clip his nails and occasionally express his a**l glands. (Along with his sisters Zoya🐶 and Tilly🐱)

When I first expressed his glands, there was no problem whatsoever. On one of my visits, I felt a small lesion on one of his glands and advised Tracy to seek advice and treatment from her vet. They monitored this little lesion and decided to remove it recently. It came back as a cancerous lesion of the a**l gland BUT as it was caught early, they were able to remove large enough margins either side and had no concern that it had spread 🙌🏼

As a veterinary nurse, I know what a healthy a**l gland feels like and what is normal and abnormal. If anyone was to squeeze a lesion and it was cancerous, they could be doing more damage and spreading cancer cells.

So my advice to you, is please get a veterinary professional to empty your dogs a**l glands! Quinn is 7 years old and this could have had a worse outcome! Luckily, we found it early! Here’s to a long and happy life 🫶🏻

The best boy! 💙

Hi all

🌟DOG TAG SALE🌟

Some of you may know that I used to make resin dog tags and I’m selling all my tags at a reduced fee as I no longer do it.

These are really cute for your dogs and cats! Or even for yourself and others, I know a lot of nurses who use them for their stethoscopes or scissors.

All tags will be between £1-£3 (plus £2 postage/delivery). Charms can be added for an extra 50p. There are tags that don’t have letters but I can add a free letter charm to these.

Lots of different styles! This isn’t all of them so if you can’t see a style with your letter, please ask and I can DM you all the styles in a particular letter.

Thanks
Kelly ❤️

When the kitty cat you’re cat sitting is constantly shouting at you for not feeding her fast enough😹

Absolutely fuming that I was cleaning her bowls (pic1), livid her bowl was empty (pic2) and not impressed I took more than 5 seconds opening the door (pic3) 😹😻

Love her!!! 😻

Lots of false information being shared about using luke warm/tepid water if your pet has heatstroke… this is definitely not the case!
But PREVENTION is the best intervention, keep those puppies cool! 🧊🧊🧊

Is it true that if we use cold water on heat stroke pets they will go into shock?

One of the most common things we still hear is that we can only use tepid water on a pet with heat stroke, incase they get some complications like hypothermic overshoot, peripheral vasoconstriction hindering a cooling response, and cardiogenic shock...

We have heard not to use cold water in case it causes shock... this rarely happens!

But guess what? In a recent study over 26% of dogs presented with heat stroke died, with flat faced breeds making up nearly half of heat stroke cases seen in the study.

You should:

💧Get someone to call the local veterinary practice and tell them you're going to travel down with a heat stroke patient
💧Pour, hose or if possible immerse the pet in very cold water (this should obviously be done under constant supervision, ensuring the head is fully above water and immersion should not be attempted if the animal is too large, or you are unable to do so without hurting yourself)
💧NB: If using a hose pipe, make sure it has run through until cold, as they can often contain water that is extremely hot in the tubing initially
💧Do not drape in towels and leave them in situ. Keep the cold water flowing.
💧Move to a cool, shaded area
💧Prepare to transport to vets in a cold, air conditioned car

In studies they found that:

🌅International consensus from sports medicine organisations supports treating EHS with early rapid cooling by immersing the casualty in cold water.
🌅Ice-water immersion has been shown to be highly effective in exertional heat stroke, with a zero fatality rate in large case series of younger, fit patients.
🌅Hyperthermic individuals were cooled twice as fast by Cold Water Immersion as by passive recovery.
🌅No complications occurred during the treatment of three older patients with severe heat stroke were treated with cold‐water immersion.
🌅Cold water immersion (CWI) is the preferred cooling modality in EHS guidelines and the optimal method applicable to UK Service Personnel
🌅Studies suggest using either ice-water or cold-water immersion

The best intervention is PREVENTION, but if you find yourself with an animal with heat stroke, using cold water either by pouring, hosing or ideally (if safe) immersion then this may help reduce their temperature to safe levels while you transport to a veterinary practice.

Had the pleasure of meeting Miss Peanut this evening 🥰
She dislikes her feet and nails being touched and is quite sensitive to anything being done to her.
We sat, chatted and got her used to me being there, with some treats and strokes. We did a few nails at a time and let her have a treat and chill. And managed to do all her nails in the end!
Slow and steady wins the race!!! 🤩
The sweetest, teenyiest, little girlie! Lovely to meet you all!
