Many of you will have been welcomed by Roxy our bulldog when you first arrive at Toos Nest.
Last Thursday she had life saving surgery to remove a tumour from her abdomen. We are waiting on the results.
So next time you see her she has asked for treats as she is now looking to put on weight. (Wish I was!)

Happy CockaToosday!

DID YOU KNOW? 🤔

There are 21 different species of cockatoos, all of which are recognisable by their showy crests and curved bills. Cockatoos are somewhat less colourful than other parrots, with their coloured features found primarily on their crest, cheeks, under their wings or tail.

White cockatoos and smaller cockatiels are more commonly found as companion parrots than black cockatoos, many of which are on the decline in the wild due to loss of habitat and the illegal bird trade.

Currently, seven species of cockatoo are considered to be vulnerable or worse, including the red-vented cockatoo and the yellow-crested cockatoo, which are listed as critically endangered. 😎

OK, a little bit silly I know but made me smile!

HAPPY WORLD PARROT DAY 2025! 🎉🥳

Here at Parrot Trust Scotland, we are celebrating the day by running a raffle in aid of our funds to continue to support parrots in need. Details of how to enter will be posted at 8am this morning - we'd love your support.

This year, the World Parrot Trust is using the theme;

"Be social, stick together, be more (love)Parrot" for World Parrot Day 2025

emphasising the social nature of parrots and underscoring the importance of social bonds and cooperation within parrot species, with the focus this year on lovebirds.

Lovebirds are small, social parrots known for their strong pair bonds and affectionate behaviour. They mate for life, are playful, and have a variety of fascinating characteristics. Here are some fun facts:

• They come in different species: The nine species of lovebirds have unique appearances and behaviours.

• They are from Africa: Most lovebird species originate from continental Africa, with one species native to Madagascar. The Grey-headed Lovebird (scientific name: Agapornis canus) is also sometimes called the Madagascar Lovebird. They are the smallest of the lovebird species

• Lovebirds mate for life: They form lasting bonds and exhibit courtship behaviours when reaching sexual maturity at about 10 months.

• They are social birds: Lovebirds live in small flocks and need companionship.

• They can display erratic behaviour if separated from their mate: This is likened to a form of depression.

• They can be playful and mischievous: Lovebirds are prone to exploring and playing with things in their environment.

• They need a varied diet: Lovebirds should have a balanced diet of seeds, fruits, vegetables, and other treats.

Please think carefully before taking on a parrot 😢

If you have thought long and hard about bringing a parrot into your life, then why not consider giving a loving home to one of the 85% already looking for a ‘new’ home?
PLEASE - DON'T SHOP - ADOPT!
