HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY to Carewell Vets!
On 07/08/2023 we started our journey on recreating a traditional, friendly, independent small animal practice owned by vets rather than corporate shareholders. We are thrilled that so many of you have appreciated our vision and continue to recommend and trust us with your family pets. On our first day last year, we started the practice as a team of four. With the support of almost 2000 of you, we have created a practice full of pride and love. We have continually invested in further equipment to enable us to do the job that we love whilst keeping prices fair and affordable for you.
Liz and Antonia continue to be amazing on reception. They are the first port of call for many of you and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for being so efficient and friendly.
We have the most amazing nursing team of Catherine (Head RVN), Rebecca RVN, Lara RVN and Amy RVN, ably assisted by Michelle. The nursing team help keep your pets alive, clean and fed in addition to helping the vets and practice function. We couldn’t ask for a better team of nurses and we are eternally grateful to them.
We haven’t managed to get a photo with all of us as the picture below is missing our fabulous vet Harriet and our amazing animal care assistant Michelle. They are both at the top of their game and are important members of the practice. We increased our vet team earlier this year, with the addition of Laura. Laura has proved to be a very capable and popular vet. We are so pleased that she has fitted in so well, We are currently in discussions for the addition of another experienced part time vet so watch this space!
It’s been an amazing 1st year. We will continue with our promise to care well for you, your pets and each other. Let’s see what happens in year 2! Thank you.
Jason and Sadie

"From small acorns, great oak trees grow". It has been an amazing journey to see the practice expand and evolve since we opened 6 months ago. We are extremely grateful for the trust that you have all placed in us. This enables our team to do what we do best, which is devoting our time and energy to helping your pets.
Over the past few weeks, many of you have met our lovely new vet, but for those of you that haven't, we are thrilled to introduce you to Dr Laura Harvey. Laura holds a certificate in Surgery and has worked for many years in other local practices. Laura is friendly, compassionate and very experienced. She has fitted in perfectly with the Carewell ethos and we are so pleased that she is enjoying working with us, as much as we are enjoying working with her.
We might have invested in the best possible facilities and equipment but it is the whole team caring for each other that makes the practice feel so nice and function so well.
Carewell Vets: 100% Independent, 100 % managed by local vets with passion and pride in the service offered to the community. We know that you can feel the difference when you set foot in the practice and this is why we will keep on doing what we do, to the very best of our ability.

Due to a leak along the A22 road at Whitegates Farm, Eastbourne Road, Blindley Heath, Lingfield, RH7 6LG, we are closing this section of the road from Wednesday, 10 of January in order to make the necessary repairs. This work is essential to safeguard water supplies for our customers, and is expected to remain in place for a minimum of two weeks.

The closure will require a 29-mile diversion route as per the map below and is required to ensure the safety of motorists during the repair process.

We're sorry for the disruption caused and will be working extended hours to re-open the road as soon as possible. For further updates, please visit: bit.ly/3lkNImF

It's been an exciting couple of weeks. We have had more and more patients registering but don't worry, we still have plenty of spare capacity!
We are really pleased to announce that we are expanding, with the addition of a hugely experienced, local vet who starts full time in January. We will let you know more about her soon. Some of you will already have met her as she has been working in the area for many years. Many practices are struggling to find vets so we are thrilled that we have found such a lovely vet to further enhance our team.
We are also starting to advertise for an additional full time RVN. If any vet nurses are reading this and fancy joining our independent practice, then please PM us for further information or send a CV to [email protected]
You may remember our earlier post about the first puppy born at Carewell Vets. The adorable 'Bonnie' returned for her first vaccination....how can you not fall in love with that face!
We also had a patient sent to us with a dislocated wrist. This is a catastrophic injury with rupture of the supporting ligaments. We performed an operation called a Pancarpal Arthrodesis where we took bone from the shoulder of the dog and inserted this into the wrist joint, having removed the cartilage of all the wrist bones. A special plate was then attached to fuse the wrist into a weight bearing position. We are very pleased to be able to offer advanced procedures such as this and we enjoy hearing all of your positive comments and lovely reviews. Thank you!!

This is the lovely Rengoku who was presented to us with anorexia. Rengoku has a history of eating some rather strange objects including elastic bands and Nerf gun pellets. We were concerned after palpating his abdomen that there may be something inside that was causing an obstruction. Rengoku was taken to the operating theatre where we located a firm foreign body that had got stuck in his small intestine. The photos show the removal of the foreign body which turned out to be the end of a Nerf gun bullet. He was eating again within a few hours after surgery.Rengoku is looking very relaxed at home and has now been signed off.... hopefully he has learnt his lesson!

Many of you have now visited our independent practice and have commented about what a lovely place Carewell Vets is. We are all super proud of our facilities but Sadie and I are even more proud of our amazing team. Our surgical and nursing skills have been thoroughly tested this week by the very handsome 'Milo'. Milo was rushed into the practice, as an emergency. He was unable to breathe after being hit by a car. Milo was close to death and X-rays confirmed the cause as a ruptured diaphragm. The picture with the yellow arrows, shows his intestines in the chest cavity. Milo was stabilised and rushed into theatre where we discovered a 12cm tear in his diaphragm, a lacerated liver and severely bruised lungs. His liver, gall bladder and intestines had all passed through the tear and had squashed his lungs. The damage was repaired, his chest was drained and he was intensively nursed. The 2nd X-ray picture shows the difference post-operatively. We are very pleased to report that Milo went home today. It is thrilling as a vet to literally have your hand in a chest cavity and to be touching a beating heart but it is also amazing to watch a nursing team, at the very top of their game, swing into action. Every member of the team played a crucial role in his recovery. A massive well done to our RVNs!

12/09/2023

We don't know what you did over the weekend... we spent ours nursing this poorly little chap back to full health. We are already missing that adorable little face! The top of the range kennel with built in heating and air extraction, allowed us to keep him really comfortable and the red light mode allowed us to monitor him without disturbing his rest and sleep cycles through the use of bright lights. He had over 50 years worth of veterinary experience at his disposal and went home yesterday after being in our care for 48 hours. Being an Independent vet is an amazing job and what better satisfaction is there, than improving a life for both the pet and the owner... Caring well at Carewell Vets.

We had an amazing open day today. Thank you to everyone who joined us and we hope you all enjoyed having a few nibbles, taking a peek behind the scenes and seeing some of the horse and dog show. A huge thank you goes to Julian Norton and his wife Anne, for travelling all of the way from Yorkshire to be with us. Julian was so generous with his time, signing autographs and chatting with everyone. Our Carewell team is really starting to get settled in now. Our nursing and reception team have been complete superstars. In the past week, we've brought our first life into the Carewell world with an emergency caesarian on the beautiful Chihuahua 'Coco', we've removed intestinal foreign bodies, repaired several fractured limbs and have been delighted to see so many familiar and new faces joining our Carewell Vets family. Exciting to see what the next week brings.... whatever happens, we will be there, doing our very best for you.

OPEN DAY SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER 12:00-15:00
We are very excited to announce that Julian Norton from popular TV series 'The Yorkshire Vet' will be officially opening Carewell Vets! Julian used to work at the famous practice owned by James Herriott. Since leaving, Julian has set up two successful independent veterinary practices. He has been very supportive and generous with his knowledge towards us setting up our own independent practice. There will be guided tours so that you can see behind the scenes of our amazing facilities!
Dormansland Horse and Dog Show is also happening in the Carewell Canines secure dog walking fields next door. We have sponsored Ring 8 for the dog show so please come along because the show supports many worthy charities.
We look forward to seeing you all!

Our first week is done!

A HUGE thank you goes out to all of our clients. You have been so very patient and supportive during our first week. We are still in the process of getting lots of you registered and ironing out any glitches. Your thoughtful cards, flowers and gifts have put a smile on our face and have been really appreciated by all of us.

My second debt of gratitude goes to my amazing team of Sadie, Harriet, Catherine, Liz, Antonia, Lara and Rebecca for all of their effort and dedication in making our practice run as smoothly as possible from day 1. It is wonderful to share the journey with such a fantastic group of people.

Quite a few of you have asked to know more about me as the head vet:

My name is Jason Hadley. I wanted to be a vet from the age of 5 and qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2000 with distinction in small animal medicine. I have worked since then as a full time small animal veterinary surgeon and have been treating the animals of Edenbridge, Lingfield, East Grinstead and the surrounding areas since 2004. My special interests are in all aspects of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, Greyhounds and canine sports medicine.
I am one of a handful of forensic vets in the whole of the UK and my expertise is regularly sought to aid the courts in cases of suspected negligence and animal welfare complaints. I have worked for the prosecution, defence and as a single joint expert with my opinions being accepted in both Magistrates and Crown court.
When not at work, I enjoy family time, gardening and Shotokan karate. I was awarded my 5th Dan blackbelt after grading in Japan in 2019.

I look forward to seeing you at Carewell and thank you all for your trust.
With gratitude and the very best of wishes,
Jason Hadley BVetMed MRCVS

We are thrilled with our reception desk made by local Lingfield craftsman Glenn Talbot of Kingswood Bespoke Joinery. We would thoroughly recommend him to anyone wanting cabinets built for their home. He has a vast knowledge and very high standards. Throughout this project, we have been determined to give our business to local companies and we have not been disappointed. We can't name everybody but we have been so impressed with all of you who have contributed to building our practice. If you want something built with pride or need a fantastic carpenter, plumber, electrician or plasterer then please give Nick a call at Lingstead Construction. He really knows the best in the business. Our amazing logo was created by local legend Sarah Medway Graphic Designer. We would also highly recommend the IT company PS Tech for all your computer and phone needs.
We have been busy registering clients, stocking shelves and preparing everything. There have been a few challenges but we are looking forward to welcoming you alI to our Carewell family. I humbly ask that whilst my team get used to their new practice, new roles, computers and equipment that you care well for us, so that we can care well for you and your pets. There are bound to be a few teething troubles but we will do our very best with kindness and a smile and we just ask for the same in return.

We are thrilled with the positivity towards our practice and we are really looking forward to welcoming all of you. Some of you have been our clients for many years and some of you are joining us for the very first time. It is a huge honour to have the trust of so many and we will do all we can, to maintain and build this relationship. The building work at Carewell is now completely finished and we are just in the process of transferring all of our equipment and getting all of the machines and surgical kits organised. We are hoping to open on the 7th August but this is dependent on the electricity board doing some final bits and we will confirm this closer to the date.
Many of you have asked about our out of hours arrangement. We will, where ever possible, look after our own in patients. For emergencies after we have closed, we have teamed with Pennards Vets in Sevenoaks. We feel that Pennards will offer the best value and be the most reliable out of hours provider for our clients. Like us, Pennards are Independent and share a similar ethos of care.
We have been contacted by some amazing nursing staff and if we could offer positions to all of them, then we would. We have increased our nursing team and now have almost 50 years of combined fully qualified vet nursing experience. We know lots of vets are also reading our page and if they feel unsupported, unappreciated or just want to get the love of veterinary medicine back, please contact us and we will see if we can make your dreams come true too, whether that is in a part time or full time capacity. We will be posting some of our prices soon so keep an eye out for more updates. With the very best wishes from your Carewell Vets,
Jason and Sadie Hadley.

We've been very busy this past week getting the practice ready for you and are excited to be nearing completion. We really do appreciate your support, interest and kind comments. This is a time of nervous transition for us, moving from our familiar routine to our new vet home. We feel reassured that every veterinary colleague who has had a tour so far, has simply said WOW". We've invested our time and love into the design and fit out and many local heroes have invested their time and love into building it for us. Carewell vets are on the way and we are grateful to those of you who are joining us on our journey! More updates soon!

We are thankful and overwhelmed by the support we have received from our community so far....over 120 animals pre-registered with us in the space of 48 hours! Carewell has so many meanings for us. To start with, we are caring well for our team, in a world where many veterinary staff are becoming disillusioned and leaving the profession. We love being vets and are building a team that feels supported, protected and can develop their passion. Our ethos at Carewell is to always be kind. We have already got amazing staff who will be the beating heart of our practice but we will be on the hunt for more and are already looking for more fabulous nurses. We will care well for you, our clients. You are part of the Carewell team, rather than just a number. All of our rooms are air conditioned for your comfort. There will be tea and coffee if needed, with guest access to our wifi. If you need advice, we will be there for you. If you need routine treatments, we will be there for you. If you need advanced medicine and surgery, we will be there for you. If you need a home visit, we will be there for you. We promise to care well for you, to the very best of our ability. Finally and most importantly, we will care well for our furry and feathered friends, from their entry into the world to their final journey. The practice is being kitted out with everything to keep our patients safe, comfortable and cared for, from multi-parameter monitors, direct digital radiography, dental radiography, blood machines, syringe drivers, infusion pumps, warming apparatus, Class 4 laser, stem cell treatments, ultrasound, endoscopes etc. We look forward to posting more pictures this week as our kennels and operating tables are being delivered! We look forward to welcoming you to our Carewell family.
