Introducing Our Alternative Provision for 2025

We are excited to announce the launch of our Alternative Provision (AP) for young people who are currently unable to access education due to mental health challenges.

Our AP offers a supportive and engaging educational experience tailored to the unique needs of each individual.

What is Alternative Provision?
Alternative Provision refers to educational settings outside of traditional schools, typically funded by local authorities. Our AP is designed to provide a unique and engaging learning environment for young people who may struggle in conventional educational settings.

Our Approach
At our AP, we prioritize the mental health and well-being of our students. We combine therapeutic support with education in a kind, encouraging, and non-pressured atmosphere. Our innovative approach utilizes equine-assisted sessions, where students engage in caring for horses and maintaining the land. This hands-on experience not only fosters practical skills but also builds confidence and emotional intelligence, empowering young people to achieve their personal goals.

Program Details
Schedule: Our Alternative Provision is currently offered two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the potential to expand to additional days.

Eligibility: While the program is designed for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), it is not mandatory to access our bespoke course.

Duration: The course lasts for six consecutive weeks, with options for one-on-one sessions lasting an hour or full-day sessions from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM, including a packed lunch.

What to Expect During the 6 Sessions
Initial Planning Meeting: We begin with a comprehensive planning meeting to review the current EHCP (if applicable) and understand the young person's additional educational needs. This meeting is crucial for setting expectations and defining the aims and outcomes we hope to achieve. A representative from the referring agency must be present to ensure a collaborative approach.

Tailored Sessions: Each session is designed to promote re-engagement with learning, resilience, independence, skill development, and self-esteem building. We maintain open communication with the referring agency throughout the program to adapt the course as needed, ensuring that each young person receives the appropriate level of challenge and support.

Horse Riding Option: While horse riding is not mandatory, it is available for those who wish to participate. To ensure safety and suitability, we require an accurate and up-to-date riding weight prior to the start of the sessions.

Funding and Access
We are proud to be a recognized provider of Alternative Provision with Cornwall Council. For our AP to be agreed upon and funded by the local authority, parents or carers typically need to initiate the process through their child’s school.

If you are interested in learning more about our Alternative Provision or would like to discuss enrollment options, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to support young people on their path to success and well-being
