Most of the donkeys had some chill out time over the weekend on their other fields which are dry - Yay!!

Tucker left easy to recognise, JJ middle and Dudley right, there where others around somewhere ☺️
We missed our visitors over the weekend it seemed strange, but we are always very busy caring for the donkeys, doing jobs around the sanctuary maintenance etc that have to be done the work is endless….. 🤪

🥕🥕 Also we have completely run out of carrots please help if you can 🙏 🥕🥕 We haven’t told the donkeys 🤫

In celebration of Dame Jane Goodall 1934 – 2025

Along with so many people around the world, I am saddened to learn that Dame Dr Jane Goodall has died. I had the pleasure of meeting Jane Goodall on a few occasions and was struck by her aura that brought people into her world and inspired them. It is truly fitting that she was engaging and inspiring people to the end, as she had throughout her life.

As a young zoologist in the 1960s, Jane Goodall not only found herself in the male-dominated world of science, but embarked upon what would have been the immensely difficult study of wild chimpanzees. As a field researcher myself, I understand the challenges of working in challenging environments, but her bravery and steadfastness were immense. For this alone she was and will always be a guiding light for field zoologists and later conservationists. But as her global appeal and renown grew, she also served to address the ever urgent need to engage people around the world in the protection of nature and in science, irrespective of their backgrounds.

But her science was impressive. From her painstaking observations of chimpanzees in Tanzania, and especially their use of tools, she fundamentally changed the way we regard not only animals, but ourselves. At a time when ethologists and psychologists believed that tool-use was a defining quality of what it means to be human, her findings caused significant waves and not insignificant opposition. Her belief in science and the fundamental principles of objective knowledge was a constant strength and unassailable counter to those whose disagreements were unfounded in facts.

The Jane Goodall Institute that she set up in 1977 is a fitting and lasting testament to the immense impact she made on many lives, not least my own.

She was a hero to so many and will be dearly missed.
