🤝As you know, we are serious about sustainability here at Animor! Looking after our planet is so important, not just for all of us, but for our pets too…

🌏We have taken many steps so far to reduce our practices environmental impact, but what about the impact our pets have?

🐶While much smaller than the typical humans carbon footprint, cats and dogs can emit from 310kg of CO2e for a cat, up to a whopping 4 tonnes of CO2e for a Great Dane! This is largely due to the fact that they are carnivores, whilst small furries with a vegetarian diet like rabbits and guinea pigs have a much smaller impact.

💪We’re tackling our own carbon footprint and we are very proud to be a carbon neutral business.

💚But we didn’t forget about your pets… Every single member of our plans has the option to offset their pets carbon pawprint, helping you to make your pet carbon neutral. Through your health plan membership you could support and protect our planet with your pet - Thank you for being part of our mission.

Our Animor Vet Centre in Ellesmere Port is one year old!

A quick shout out to pet owners in the Port and surrounding areas to say thank-you for your support and giving us the opportunity to take care of your pets. To give you an idea of who we’ve seen in the last 12 months, here’s a few of our recent patients - wise eyes Woody, Argenta with her six kitten babies, Albert booking himself in at reception and a whole bundle of teddy bear Chow Chows! 😆

👀Meet our senior patient Martha!

🐶Martha usually finds going to the vets quite stressful. But not today!

👩‍⚕️Dr Bridget and RVN Leigh were able to assess Martha from the comfort of her armchair. They were able to bring Martha up to date with her vaccinations and address the pain caused by her arthritis. Martha is partial to a Smacko (or two!) and quite enjoys an Animor selfie.

December is here and lots of us will be beginning to decorate our homes for Christmas.

The Christmas poinsettia - Euphorbia pulcherrima - has a reputation for being a toxic plant.
However In the majority of cases, ingestion will cause mild gasterointestinal irritation requiring only symptomatic and supportive care.

Signs may include drooling, vomiting, lethargy and depression. The signs are rapid in onset and self-limiting.

If your pet has nibbled on a poinsettia and you are concerned, call the Animal PoisonLine for advice on 01202 50900.

🧅 Onions, leeks and garlic 🧅

Onions, garlic, leeks, shallots and chives all belong to the same group of plants. They can cause toxicity even when cooked.

Initially there can be gastrointestinal signs with vomiting and diarrhoea, but the main effect is damage to red blood cells resulting in anaemia. This may not be apparent until several days after ingestion.

🌺The Animor Ellesmere Port team received these beautiful flowers as a gift from Ebony's parents for the veterinary care she received.

🤒Ebony was treated for hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and stole all our hearts during her recovery. She is now thankfully recovered and doing well at home, where she should be. Seeing animals recover and be united with their owner is the best part of our job!

🍇Vitis Vinifera (grapes, raisins, sultanas)🍇

Grapes and their dried fruits can be incredibly toxic to dogs and cats, and ingestion of a small amount can be enough to cause kidney damage. It is not fully understood how these foods cause poisoning, and there is no correlation between the amount eaten and the likelihood of an animal developing complications. This means that even a small amount can be enough to cause serious kidney impairment.

Signs of toxicity include:
🍇Vomiting and diarrhoea
🍇 Abnormal drinking or urination
🍇 Weakness and lethargy

🍂Did you know... Conkers, Oaks and Acorns are toxic to your dog. Ingestion can cause gastro-intestinal signs such as drooling, retching, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. If swallowed, they could also cause an intestinal blockage.

🍄Mushrooms and toad stools are also highly toxic and should always be avoided.

At this sad time we know that lilies are very commonly chosen as a floral tribute for funeral flowers. This is just a gentle reminder that lilies pose a life threatening risk to cats.

⚠️It is not just the pollen of lilies that cause kidney injury . Experimental evidence has shown that leaves and petals are also toxic, and it is likely that the whole plant is a risk if eaten by a cat⚠️

If you have a cat, keep them safe and avoid all lilies (Lilium species) and day lilies (Hemerocallis species) in your home and garden.

🙃We just can't contain ourselves.... THOSE EARS👂!!!

🧠Did you know relative to their bodies, Chihuahuas have the biggest brain in the dog world. They are often quick witted, intelligent and easy to train. However, they can be difficult to toilet train. This could be due to their tiny bladder and perhaps their willful personality!

😜We are looking forward to having them back and finding out if Maggie has grown into her ears!
