Welcome to 17 year old Charlie who arrived this evening.
Rolo was a master escapologist who could have given Houdini a run for his money. He could figure out any lock or bolt, and any clip, clasp or knot used on top of the bolt. We'd regularly find him out in the mornings, despite trying every mechanism known to man to keep him in, and having escaped, he'd often go around the yard opening the other stable doors and freeing his friends too.
He could also untie himself no matter what knot or how many knots we used. We bought him his own special short rope with a clip at each end to tether him in an effort to try to prevent this, but he still regularly got away. We used to swear he had a pair of hands that he kept secretly about his person somewhere, it was the only explanation!
He was also a regular at breaking into the office, the barn and the feed store, and would do it so stealthily that none of us would know until we walked in and Rolo was already there, helping himself to whatever he could find - carrots, feed, treats, packed lunches, cat food or the contents of the bin 🙄 He would also literally mug people for their snacks when they returned from the shop. He never colicked or had a day's illness despite regular illegal consumption of tea and coffee, soft drinks, meat or cheese sandwiches, crisps, pasta, pot noodles... for a herbivore he must have had an iron constitution!
Rolo could also get out of any field or paddock, sometimes he'd blatantly smash down a fence or shove a gate open, but sometimes even we couldn't work out how he'd done it, he'd just appear on the yard or somewhere else he wasn't supposed to be like he had every right to be there. He once escaped from the field where he lived with other horses his own size and age because he desperately wanted to play with the group of Welsh mountain ponies in the field opposite, who were all half his size and 20 years younger than him. He moved in one night without our knowledge or approval, and when we arrived the next morning there was chaos as we could see h
In summer we have the use of some extra fields for grazing which we are very kindly allowed to use free of charge by the owners of a local smallholding. Two of our mares, Jazz and River have been there on their summer holidays for the last few weeks, and today we took Prosecco to join them. Much parading, playing and prancing ensued! 🐎❤️
Sparrow fancied a summer makeover to match her designer sunglasses, so today she tried out some funky hair extensions with the help of her boyfriend Prince 😉
New arrival Nobby has been out in the sunshine this afternoon, making new friends, getting to know his surroundings and burning off some of his youthful energy!
Christmas Eve: Draw will take place at 1pm, last chance if anyone would like one of the ten remaining numbers! X

Sam, Jazz & River
We have been kindly offered summer grazing for up to four horses, so today we took Sam, Jazz and River on their holidays. It looks like they'll enjoy themselves 😊
