This is Soopastan our Practice Manager. He's been with us 6 months and we are still getting to know each other. Stan has made 2 1/2 friends. He's settling in well and we think he likes us😊Stan will be happy to greet you on your next visit.

Stan likes likes nothing better than a good wee wee. How many wee wees do you think Stan had on his morning walk? Prize for the correct or closest guess - 2 months of prescription worm treatment for your pet, we'll tell you why this is so important in our next blog on
https://www.carevets.co.uk

ps. Disclaimer: The amount of wee wees has nothing to do with worming your pet, we just think he is bonkers.

Arthritis and joint pain can have a profound impact on a dog's behaviour and overall quality of life.

When a dog experiences chronic pain, it can lead to increased irritability, restlessness, and even aggression.

Imagine trying to navigate the world while constantly experiencing discomfort – it's no wonder that some dogs may lash out in frustration.

As responsible pet owners, it's our duty to recognise the signs of pain in our furry companions and take proactive steps to address their needs, whether through pain management medication, physical therapy, or lifestyle adjustments.

HOT WEATHER WARNING!

With the weather set to change (we hope!) please remember your pets may not be as happy about this as you are, so don't forget to:

Make sure all pets always have access to fresh water to drink, adequate ventilation and shade from direct sunlight at all times. This includes birds in cages or aviaries and rabbits in hutches. Provide extra shade to guinea pigs by covering the top of wire mesh runs with damp towels.

Don’t exercise dogs in the hottest parts of the day: especially older dogs, overweight dogs, flat-faced breeds or dogs that you know have heart or lung problems. Stick to early morning or late evening walks.

Do the five-second tarmac test before taking a dog out for a walk; if it feels too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Never leave dogs in vehicles. If you see a dog in distress inside a hot car, call 999.

Watch out for early signs of heatstroke, such as heavy panting, drooling, restlessness, bright red or very pale gums, and lack of coordination. Signs of heatstroke in rabbits include drooling, salivating, lethargy, short and shallow breaths, red and warm ears, wet nose and seizures.

If heatstroke or any other heat-related condition is suspected, take your pets to a cool, well-ventilated place, give it small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water to drink, and pour room-temperature water over it to cool it down. Seek immediate advice from your vet.

Spare a thought for wild animals. Keep out bowls of water for wildlife such as birds and hedgehogs.

SmileyStan, VGB (Very GoodBoy)

Stan joined Care in December 2023 and is quickly making a name for himself as the resident Attentionhound. Hardly a minute goes by when he’s not being informed of how god damn beautiful he is.

Stan is a very smiley person and can be seen here giving Tom Cruise a run for his money.

He’s also very athletic.

Stan still has a little social etiquette to learn but we think he'll do just fine.

Like most dogs Stan is food oriented and will do cartwheels for a sausage. Stan loves to learn new tricks and is a quick learner. Sliding doors are easypeasy as some of you already know! He’s working on key codes next. After that…..local elections? Watch this space.

After much ado, we'd like to share the inside of our new home in the heart of the beautiful Eastham Village Conservation Area, complete with resident pet, Stan. Like us, Stan has been finding his feet as he joined us as a rescue about 3 months ago, and is starting to come out of his shell. But more about the boy later.

We have been working very hard to complete the transition and are touched to say that we have been welcomed with open arms by the local community. Thank you everyone here and for all of our clients that have moved with us, we hope that we can continue to help your pets for a long time to come.

Have a terrific weekend.
