Here are 3 top tips to keep your pets chill this festive season 🎅 - from our Senior RVN and Pet Behaviourist, Rachel Green AdvDipCanBeh.

1 - Create a den or safe space for your pet. Somewhere quiet and cosy they can retreat to if the hustle and bustle in your home becomes a bit too much. Discourage young children from interacting with your pet when they’re in this space; they should be able to relax here undisturbed.

2 - Try to keep to their normal routine. Our pets are creatures of habit! Try to keep to their usual timings for meals, walks and bedtime over the holiday season. If you walk your dog during the evening when it's dark, avoid these later walks when fireworks are expected.

3 - Use calming products. There are relaxing canine pheromones (Adaptil) and herbal products (Pet Remedy) to help relieve mild stress. These are available over the counter. Pet Remedy is available in a spray or wipe format, and we sell this in our surgeries. It's a natural, gentle, non-sedating calming agent that works instantly. This will also come in handy to take the edge off those NYE fireworks.
