Spring has sprung and with that comes the fear of tick infestation…

Margo needed a little help to remove a tick on her eye lid today (see last picture) with a little holding help by her parents, I managed to remove it safely 💗 After it was removed she enjoyed some oils to inhale, the oils supports the wound to heal, boost her immune system, while reducing inflammation and reduce the risk of potential disease from the tick 🐶

ℹ️ This time of the year I always get lots of questions about natural tick remedies…

🍀 Let’s look at some natural options I recommend;

💗 Essential oil spray / cream
Lavender oil has been shown to repel ticks, Peppermint oil will affect the nervous system of ticks without harming your pet. Many people use rose geranium oil and find it works well. Neem oil has been around forever and is another favorite.

‼️Essential oils should always be diluted before applying to pets. Oils can be diluted in water as a spray or in aloe vera gel or coconut oils - spray or rub throughout the coat.

💡If you don’t want to apply the natural remedies on your dog’s coat, you can add a few drops of the diluted mix on a bandana to be used as a natural flea collar.

‼️Make sure the smell is not overwhelming, as this will be close to your dog’s nose. A few drops of essential oils goes a long way.

🥥 Coconut oil kills and repels fleas due to the ingredient lauric acid. Coconut oil can be rubbed through the coat and can be fed to the pets. I recommend 1 teaspoon per 10kgs of body weight twice daily in the food. Coconut oil melts easily, so rubbing it between your hands will make it into a liquid that you can rub through your pet’s coat. It moisturizes skin and helps kill yeast too.

🧄 Fresh crushed garlic can also be added to your dog’s diet for flea protection. Anywhere from 1/2 clove to 2 cloves daily would be considered safe, depending on size of the dog. A good rule of thumb would be no more than 1/2 clove per 10kgs of body weight daily, with a maximum of 2 cloves for any size dog.

‼️If you have a pet that has a history of hemolytic anemia, it would be safer to avoid use of garlic in any form.

What an amazing day it was yesterday at Chelsea Dog Day, it was so well organised by @woofabout at @dukeofyorksquare and @kingsroad.london 🐾✨ It was sooo busy the whole day I didn’t really get time to get many pictures of all of you lovely pooches coming by to say hi but I loved meeting all of you and I’m so grateful to everyone who bought the crystal infused water bottles (I only had 2 bottles left at the end of the day 😅) and to everyone who signed up for the competition, free 15min online consultation and who booked in consultations with me ✨ what a day it was 💗🫶🏻✨ I can’t wait to continue the conversation with you all, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you got any questions about my treatments 💗
