Urgent! S.o.s, s.o.s s.o.s , out all our amazing followers 😘😘 I'm asking please if everyone could donate maybe just Β£1 to this amazing charity, who we ourselves at to the rescue have visited personally a few times, (because they have taken in some strays, in very terrible states, from us when they were not chipped and when there was no other rescue spaces availble at the time locally ) this charity cared for them all and care for all their others impeccably! When some we took to them also very badly needed, and then recieved urgent medical and vet care through them, plus then of course the neutering costs they then faced too ! We at To the rescue, have seen first hand their amazing work 😍πŸ₯° and now they just need and are asking for "little bit of help" for some kitten and poss adult food . How could we not try & help them, after they have helped cats for us in the past ! Even if it's just 50p per person on here to help them with kitten food (and poss a bit of adult food tooπŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š ) as they so desperately need it right nowπŸ˜ͺ ! Below is a link in pic and the plea poster from Romney House Cat Rescue a reg charity, for their Amazon wishlist, if you would rather or prefer to buy the food directly for them, and what is needed exactly, or there is also a link to their donations page in the poster pic below, if you'd like to make a small but I'm sure will be a very gratefully recieved donation! πŸ˜€πŸ₯° Many thanks in advance to you all , and enjoy the rest of your Sunday Maria @ To The Rescue ###

This heartfelt painting, was created to remember service dogs. ❀

The other I took from a friend's profile, as I thought this was also a beautiful piece.

Please show your support, and gratitude to all that lost their lives in WWII, and to those who are still with us, by taking part in today's two minute silence.

The Halfway Doghouse need your help quickly.

There is a time frame due to this ridiculous ban on XL Bullys.

Imagine if it were your preferred breed being threatened as a banned breed. Think how you would feel.

No animal asked to be here, and they don't deserve to have their lives at risk.

Please read the picture, make contact with them direct, and thank you in advance for any help you can give them.

Update on XL Bully Ban. If you have this type of dog, please DO NOT PANIC, there will be information on how to register your dog exempt and there will be informative groups to help you.

From BBC article:
American bully XLs are now officially banned and government guidance has been published on rules for current owners.
From 1 February 2024 it will be a criminal offence to own one unless owners have successfully applied for it to be exempt in England and Wales.
There will be a longer deadline for owners to ensure the dogs are neutered and microchipped.
It follows a number of attacks involving the breed, although owners insist the dogs make lovable pets.
From 31 December 2023 it will be against the law to sell, abandon, breed from or give away an American bully XL, or have one in public without a lead or muzzle.
If your dog is less than one year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 31 December next year. If your dog is older than one year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 30 June.
The guidance is similar to that issued for the four breeds which were banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991: the American pit bull terrier, the Japanese tosa, the Dogo Argentinos and the Fila Brazileiro.
Published by Defra, the new rules also give details defining an American Bully XL, which is not a breed recognised by the Kennel Club in the UK.
According to this, the dogs are a "large dog with a muscular body and blocky head, suggesting great strength and power for its size. Powerfully built individual".

American bully XLs added to list of banned dogs https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67273889

Good morning, everyone,

Are we still having our companions chips checked every now and then? I do mine monthly to ensure my details are still showing, and up to date.

Some interesting information below about microchips. Please have a read...

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=728879292615383&id=100064799556013

Have you ever asked yourself why there are so many lost dogs with unregistered microchips?

Reasons why a microchip is not registered and the pitfalls for pet owners:

1. A couple of big databases lost registrations when their systems were updated.

2. Databases not updating registration in a timely manner.

3. Puppies and dogs imported from overseas and sold in the UK will be microchipped but not registered on a UK database.

4. Fraudulent microchip databases trading in the UK and are on top when searching Google! The microchip registration does not show in the UK and will read as unregistered.

5. Puppy farmers will pass on microchip registration papers unregistered.

6. The public, wrongly, assume that signing up to a veterinary clinic automatically updates their microchip registration.

7. All but one database charges the public to update their own data. Charging anything up to Β£30!

8. Microchip databases allowing third parties to change registration without contacting original keeper.

Please double check your dog’s microchip registration is correct : PetDatabase are Defra compliant and FREE for life, even free to update your personal information and they can transfer microchips for you. https://www.petdatabase.com/chip-checker

If you are not registered on one of the databases listed on the Defra list you are risking not getting your missing pet back home. https://www.gov.uk/get-your-dog-cat-microchipped

Note: You must make sure your dog is fitted with a microchip and registered on a database by the time it’s 8 weeks old.

From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old.

You can be fined up to Β£500 if your dog or cat is not microchipped when they need to be.

they don’t reunite if the contact information is old and out of date πŸ’”

This time we're very pleased to say that we'll be joined by our local Cats Protection, Sutton, Kingston & district branch who will be offering neutering vouchers.

No booking required and not means tested.

‼️ The law is changing. Cat owners will be legally required to have their cat microchipped by 10th June 2024 or face a Β£500 fine.

Now pumpkin season is upon us, please read the following advice to help wildlife.

Rather than finding way to dispose of it, see if there's something you can personally do with it, that will help you.

The below is taken from an anesthetics company:

Pumpkins are full of vitamins and this gives them amazing health benefits for both your body and skin.

Pumpkin seeds are full of vital nutrients and antioxidants which do an essential job in protecting your cells from free radicals, while they’re also very high in fibre. A high fibre diet has many roles including helping to reduce the risk of heart disease. Vitamins such as zinc and magnesium are also found in high levels in pumpkin seeds and these perform all-important everyday functions such as controlling blood pressure, regulating blood sugar levels, making sure bones stay healthy, supporting the immune system and forming healthy new cells.

It is that time of year when social media is again flooded with β€˜well meaning’ suggestions to take unwanted pumpkins to the local woods or park, or to put them out in the garden for wildlife.

I would urge you to please NOT dump pumpkins in local woods or park. When I have posted this in the past I have received comments that this does not happen. Well, I can assure you it does – this photo shows some of the pumpkins dumped on Chipstead Downs.

Firstly, you have no right to dump your waste food on land owned by someone else (even common land is owned and managed by local authorities). At the very least have the courtesy to get the agreement of the landowner first, without which you are effectively fly-tipping.

Autumn is the season of nature's bounty – the countryside is full of seeds, nuts, berries and fungi - the wildlife does not need your pumpkins. Pumpkins are not native to this country and do not grow wild here, so no wildlife has evolved a dependence upon them. In fact, far from helping wildlife, it can make some, such as our declining hedgehogs, ill if they eat it! (which could be fatal so close to hibernation when condition, bodyweight and fat reserves are crucial to survival). From discussions I’ve had it seems that it can also cause colic in horses. Additionally, large pieces can present a choke hazard to all animals.

On the theme of wildlife, dumped food attracts rats and the diseases they spread. If you wish to risk attracting rats into your own garden that is obviously entirely up to you, although it might not impress the neighbours.

The additional nutrients carried by pumpkins and other forms of organic waste can alter soil nutrient levels and have a detrimental impact upon the flora, especially those that have evolved to thrive upon nutrient-poor soil (such as many of the chalk grassland wildflowers).

In my experience of working in the countryside, pumpkins are rarely touched by wildlife. Instead, they are left to rot, creating a horrible soggy, stinking mess for someone else to clear up.

As vegetable matter rots it produces methane, one of the worst of the greenhouse gases impacting Climate Change.

An estimated 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins gets thrown away at Halloween - about the weight of 1,500 double decker buses! Just think about that. What a disgraceful waste of food at a time when we are in a cost of living crisis and an increasing number of people are reliant upon foodbanks to feed their families.

If you must waste food, then why not contact a local wildlife/pet rescue centre to see if they can make use of your pumpkins.

Update...
We need a little help, please read.

Hi everyone! October and babies are still coming in!
These two baby barn owls were found trapped behind a chimney and will have to stay until spring when they can be returned to the wild...
We are SO short staffed at the moment, we have one key member off sick for weeks as they were in a vehicle collision.
The rest of the guys are doing their best to cover for her, while trying to get all the aviaries winter ready, they are all exhausted, its been like this all summer.
Our Β£800 electricity bill eventually hit Β£1600 PER MONTH, we have thankfully managed to make some cuts and find a more reasonable rate after spending hours on the phone.
IF you can spare a pound or two we would be truly grateful.
If you have goods to donate to sell, our shops are all open, we can turn your unwanted things into funds.
If you have spare animal food we would love to find a use for it, you can drop it at the big sainsbury's Carlisle, our gate, or any of our shops.
Or even share this post!
Thank you all!

Ps. Items needed: Any dry or wet meat based cat or dog food. Mixed poultry corn. Wild bird seeds and nuts. Wood based bedding shavings. Clean newspaper. Rabbit food. General purpose stock/coarse mix.

Shared from a dog rescue group, because it is so true. There a many levels of dog behaviour, people need to learn it.

"Just a generation ago if you went near a dog when he was eating and the dog growled, somebody would say, 'Don't go near the dog when he's eating!, what are you crazy?'
Now the dog gets punished or put to sleep !

Back then, dogs were allowed to say, NO.
Dogs are not allowed to say no anymore!!!

They can't get freaked out, they can't be afraid, they can never signal 'I'd rather not.' We don't have any kind of nuance with regard to dogs expressing that they are uncomfortable, afraid, angry, or in pain, worried, or upset.
If the dog is anything other than completely sunny and goofy every second, he goes from a nice dog to an 'AGGRESSIVE' dog."
- Jean Donaldson

Listen to your dogs people, they are trying to communicate with you in the only way they can !

Why is it, when a driver injures an animal, domestic, or wildlife they don't stop to help it?

Makes me sick seeing so many innocent creatures harmed at the hands/wheels of humans.

Last weekend, whilst trying to find my car in the supermarket car park, I saw a young Gull laid down by the trolley park. Many people looking down at the bird and walking off. I went over, and it didn't flinch, body still a little warm, but the poor thing was motionless. I felt for a pulse but there was nothing. He or she could have only just past. There was a little bit of blood on its neck, but not from an obvious injury, and its body was still intact.

People were staring with a disgusted, and confused expression wondering why I was with the bird, yet they didn't ask they just carried on walking. I went to my car put some gloves on and picked the Gull up, then took him/her away and checked over. It was definitely deceased.

My point is, if someone had stopped to help as soon as whatever happened, happened, this beauty may have lived.

2 days ago, a pidgeon had signs of trauma, staggering across the road, hiding under cars, disorientated. It took me all day to get it(work and it was hiding under cars) many people had seen the pidg and done nothing. After work, I got a box, some gloves, and managed to pick up pidg. Took it home, and into a dark room to decompress. Spoke to wildlife people, who told me which vets to take it to in the morning.

Sadly, pidg died sometime during the night.

Again, another bird, that may have been saved, if someone had actually stopped to help sooner.

This goes for cats, dogs, squirrels etc too. If you've harmed it, or your wheels have, get it help!

There are plenty of people who specialise in wildlife, and other animal injuries that you can speak to for advice. Its about time everyone started looking out for the beautiful creatures that live on this planet too!

πŸΎπŸ¦”Where to place your hedgehog boxπŸΎπŸ¦”

With Autumn upon us, now is a great time to be putting out a nest box for hedgehogs. Hedgehogs aren't quite like us - they don't take out a mortgage on a permanent residence. They might use your box as a winter nest or they might use it as a temporary Air B&B. Hedgehogs do move nests, even in Winter when the weather is mild.

However they use your hotel though, the main thing is to provide one and to site it well. The right position vastly increases the chances of securing a prickly visitor.

Please read my blog for tips and a video showing where to place your hedgehog house correctly :-)

Oh, and I am busy making dark green eyed hedgehog charms if you fancy one LOL!
