Skyla has a new friend to start teaching. This 6 month old is with us for a board and train to work on socialisation, housebreaking, and general obedience and leash work.
We don't allow too much freedom too soon especially with a young dog. The house is a place of calm and not crazy play. Save that for outside!
I went to visit this giant gorgeous German Shepherd to see how how and owner were getting on. He is 5 years old and has been rehomed over 5 times causing a lot of confusion and breakdown of structure resulting in a dog that had attacked strangers and reacted to dogs. Fast forward 6 months into being rehomed to his forever home, consistant training, and equal amounts of love, discipline and mental/physical exercise, he is now on the road to success.
I walked him today and had three individual dogs run to him off lead and all he did was sniff and move on. He now does not care about strangers and just wants lots of exercise and cuddles. The muzzle is due to a one year condition from his past but I look forward to it coming off soon and Bailey being a role model dog. Credit to his owners for putting in the work, being consistent and never giving up on him. I hope this gives inspiration and hope to anyone with a reactive dog as it does not have to be like that forever. Seek professional help with a trainer near you and live a life of balance and harmony with your furball ❤️

My ethos is 'real world dog training' and I like to practice what I preach so that you can see the power of good obedience. My dog can tolerate other dogs but she is a shepherd and likes to chase, nip and wrestle which scares a lot of owners and their dogs. I use obedience to counter this to help desensitize and strengthen my position as a leader but also her best friend that she would rather be with.
Working with a clients dog to help with mental stimulation exercises and work on engagement and impulse control at the same time.

Good exercise to build a stronger relationship with your dog and keep their focus on you opposed to everything else. This will help if your dog has a tendency to run off as you start to become the source of fun and a stronger leader. Do not rush this, and even take their food out to feed them instead of treats!

Dog engagement plays a massive role for solving many behavior issues with your dog but also for training new behaviors. As with everything dog related, you need to start at home and then slowly take it outside. Most of all, have fun with it!
Dogs feeding ritual is one of the best ways to build leadership, and manage impulse control with your dog.
Teach your dog to stay in a place and remain there regardless of distractions. This is great for giving your dog something to do to stop barking at the door, lunging on guests, and be calmer in the house.
Utilise multiple commands and reward at end of all will help enforce strong leadership and bond opposed to rewarding after each command which can become a bribe.

Be creative with how you deliver your dog treats. Change hands, change positions that the food is released, change the frequency of treats and deliver it moving too.. all this helps keep the dog focused on you and the activity a lot more fun. Recall, like any other training needs to be short and sweet. We want to capture as much of the right behaviour and end on a positive so don't push it until the dog keeps messing up. She loves the makeshift tug and has progressed to great bites and a desire to win it. Performing agility work with dogs is a fun way to help build confidence and motivation. Use objects in parks and be creative as it's not about having the right equipment but empowering a dog to push through and perform tasks that it would usually run away from. Reduce the risk of injury to your dogs legs while keeping them mentally engaged with a simple trick: Teach your dog the 'Leave It' command! Recall is the most important command in my opinion. Testing your dogs recall should never be without a lead. The more you let them get away with being called and ignoring you, the less value the command becomes. Try this and see if your dog comes everytime. This huge, gorgeous German Shepherd was rehomed 8 times before finding his forever home. He was reactive to people and dogs but once we added structure and clear lines of communication he started to show his true colours which was that he is a big softy really! His owners were willing to put in the work and provide a him what he needs whilst showing him what they need. I already miss him but know he is with two of the most loving people as well as their helpful neighbours 👌
Working on putting some turns into the dog training as Skyla progresses with her rear end work. It took us a few attempts to get to this point in the video so do not expect perfect results every time with your dog. Dog advanced healing whilst fine tuning the rear end awareness and most of all having fun with it! Before attempting this you need to teach your dog how to use their back legs utilising a touchpad and being patient.
This gorgeous Jack Russell/Husky mix has come a long way from resource guarding, reacting to dogs in his space by biting and stranger danger. A lot of times I notice that clients will use multiple words and then change them around. This causes confusion and slows the learning process down. Train through play and make it fun for both of you. Not all training needs to be serious and monotonous and most dogs will be better motivated to engage with you. Rain or no rain when it's time to work we work. The best part about this was her self correction when she was put of heel position. It's soooo important to make sure your dog knows exactly what you want before getting annoyed when they do not perform. Recall with dog at this distance takes time. Practice short distance first and slowly extend distance over time. You can let the dog fail with many exercises and sometimes you need to however recall is not one of them.
