Why I No Longer Place Emphasis On My Dogs Walking In An Immediate Heel ... I used to think the epitome of obedience was all those dogs you see in social media videos who are glued to their owners hip, trotting along without breaking eye contact for a second. Don't get me wrong, this kind of training is great but it should be exclusive to just that ... training. Walks are essential for our dogs and are meant to allow for satisfaction of our dogs needs, from exercise, sniffing, exploring and discovering to confidence building, habituating and promotion of endorphins! As long as the dog is not yanking my arm off with lunging / pulling on the lead obsessively, I don't mind them walking ahead of me! The walk is for them, not me! Regular check-ins, rewarding for engagement but also marking the positive actions with 'Yes!' or 'Good!' have proven invaluable when out on walks, strengthening the trust & bond between myself and the dog! 🩵 Thanks to Mr Carlo for demonstrating 🎥

my first Laizhou Hong (Chinese Red Dog!!) •C•A•R•L•O• ive always loved/admired this breed so am ecstatic to be walking & training this gorgeous boy! he's an extreme puller, yet in just one session he's already made so much progress. (& his ears just make him so adorable 😍)

oh my gosh today was emotional.
