🌟 This months breed Spotlight goes to Border Collies!

Here are some of the Health issues to consider with a Border Collie:

1. Border Collies are a highly active and energetic breed that require regular exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy.

2. They are prone to certain genetic health issues such as Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) which is a congenital eye disorder that affects the retina, choroid, and sclera.

3. They can also be prone to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia which are both conditions that affect the joints.

4. They can also develop certain skin conditions such as allergies and hot spots.

5. They are also prone to certain neurological disorders such as Epilepsy and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)

6. They are also highly intelligent breed and need mental stimulation, so regular training and activities such as agility, herding and obedience training would be beneficial for them.

It's important for dog owners to be aware of the potential dangers that houseplants pose for our four-legged friends. If you're looking to liven up your home with some greenery, it's essential to know which plants are toxic to dogs. Buddy & Lola has compiled a list of five common houseplants that you should avoid if your Dog is in the house!

Bird of Paradise: The Bird of Paradise is an exotic and beautiful flower that is native to tropical areas, but unfortunately it can be toxic for dogs if they ingest it. Not only can ingestion cause oral irritation and burning, but depending on the amount of exposure it can also lead to more severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling, abdominal pain, and even seizures.

Philodendron: This large climbing plant is a popular choice for brightening up dull corners indoors - however it's best avoided when there are furry friends about! Philodendron contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals which can lead to intense pain in a dog’s mouth and throat if ingested - yikes!

Peace Lily: A popular houseplant due to its attractive foliage and ease of care. However, this plant can be toxic for dogs if ingested and may result in symptoms of poisoning. They may exhibit signs such as vomiting, diarrhoea, excessive salivation, muscle twitching, drooling or difficulty swallowing - Gosh, not feeling so peaceful now!

Aloe Vera: An incredibly popular natural remedy for humans and is often used to treat skin conditions. It is highly toxic for dogs and can bring about a range of dangerous side effects. Ingesting Aloe Vera can cause dogs to suffer from abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and depression. Even touching the plant may result in redness, itchiness and fur discolouration on the animal's skin due to its chemical compounds!

The Sago Palm: This tall, spiky plant is often used as an ornamental piece due to it's striking appearance, but did you know it can be deadly if ingested by a dog? All parts of the Sago Palm are toxic and can cause liver failure in dogs, so keep this one out of reach!

We hope this list helps you stay informed about potentially dangerous houseplants for your furry family member - because keeping them safe is priority number one at Buddy & Lola!
