It was late, and I saw a dead cat in the road. I went to get it out of the road and take it to the vet's the next morning so the owner could have closure.
As I went to pick him up, he moved his head slightly and gave out one of the weakest meows I've ever heard. I rushed him home as soon as I could, put him on my bed, and called every vet in the area to find one that was open. I found one and carried him to the car.
He was feather light and had no microchip. The vet determined he was most likely a stray, and an x-ray showed he had two broken legs and a broken rib. Through all of this, he could not stop purring; it was very weak but it was there. The vet said as the bill would be very high and there was no owner, the best thing to do would be to put him to sleep and to leave the room.
I couldn't leave. I decided he needed someone at the end, but then I realized I just couldn't let that happen. I was determined he had an owner who would have been devastated to have seen him like this, and I'd find them. So, with my term's fees for school, I had him fixed. No owner ever answered my ads.
While he was in casts, he was determined to try and follow me, but his legs flung around like paddles on a boat, so he got the nickname Paddlefoot, Pad for short. It stuck. My best friend of nine years now.
If I could say anything, it would be that not all cats die on impact with a car, so please stop if you hit one.

UPDATE 26 JUNE: SADLY SALEM WAS FOUND DEAD = ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT - AND HAD CRAWLED UNDER A NEARBY BUSH.
Thanks you for all your help and for your out-pouring of sympathy.
Kimmy has just sent me this message: "I honestly am so overwhelmed with grief I've not stopped crying. I'm at work and trying to compose myself during my nursing visits but I just can't control the tears. I walked past that house day and night calling for him I feel so bad I didn't know where he was and I hope he didn't suffer There was a slight graze to his left side of the face but no signs of obvious bodily damage I cuddled him for ages. I scooped him up and fell to the floor crying it wasn't until I laid him down I noticed all the maggots šŸ™ I bathed him trying to get them away -- loved him so much. Xx"

MISSING CAT = HEMPTON AREA (near Fakenham).

I am posting this alert on behalf of Kimmy Jayne who is searching for her missing tabby cat from the Hempton area (off the Fakenham to Swaffham road).
Salem is a huge neutered male tabby (his left ear is clipped) - very vocal and friendly to human beings (not to other cats), loves his food and has been missing since 23 June (I believe). He always turns up at meal times until this week. He's about 6-7 years of age (an ex-colony cat from Dubai) Been with Kimmy about 7-8 months.

I honestly don’t know what to say except thank you from the bottom of my heart … I hoped I’d raise a little bit towards the scan, I couldn’t figure how to turn it off so it’s raised the full cost! I’ve been to the vets just now on my way home, the scan is paid for and will be done in the morning. I joke he’s the whole estates cat as everyone is feeding him, he’s now your cat too!!!
Thank you so much for stepping in and providing what he needed when I was unable, this isn’t just a Facebook group, it’s a family and we send love to all of you ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

This is my last appeal, to see if anyone knows if this cat has an owner as he/she isn’t microchipped, constantly looking for food and now has a problem with his ear. I will be taking him to the vets next week and adopting him/her as he/she is a lovely cat and gets on with my cat. I’ve put a collar on him/her and it’s disappeared it’s also been 15 days now since he/she first turned up in my garden.
I would like to add that I’m not holding the cat hostage he/she is free to roam around, Ive tried everything.

I’m crying happy tears of joy! I have been feeding a couple of ferals for months now and have grown very attached to them. They are my beautiful calico girl (Callie), who I trapped and had spayed a couple of months ago, and at the same time found her 2 babies that she had so wonderfully cared for and took them to be fostered and adopted (they were adorable!), and a little black and white male (Harlie) that is way too smart for his own good and has (so far) outsmarted all of my attempts at trapping him so I can get him fixed also. Also, a little kitten showed-up recently from somewhere and Callie quickly started mothering and protecting it (don’t know if it’s male or female, so I called him ā€œLittle Bitā€). A little over a week ago, all 3 just disappeared and my imagination went into overdrive. My heart was broken. I kept putting their food out every morning hoping and praying they would come back. Every time I would go outside, I couldn’t feel their presence anymore. Every morning as I put their food out, I would talk out loud asking where my babies are. I just couldn’t let myself even think about all the awful things that could have happened to them. I just couldn’t. I’m now getting to the point of my post and wanted to share this to maybe give someone hope if they find themself in a similar situation — Just a little while ago as I was putting out their food again and wondering what happened to my babies, and while I was doing my other morning chores, I saw a flash of a beautiful calico zip past me — Callie came back! She immediately went to her food bowl as I cried. I still haven’t seen Harlie or Little Bit, but I am now hopeful that I will see them again. So to anyone on this page who, like me, have become very attached to the ferals they are taking care of and who have disappeared, don’t lose hope! Ferals are very good at fending for themselves and they are smart — They know where their food is. Keep putting it out and they just might surprise you and come back! I’m going to be on the lookout now for my Harlie and Little Bit and will continue to hold onto my faith that they, too, will come back. If you’ve made it through to the end of my long story, I appreciate your patience in reading, and if anyone is so inclined, any prayers for my other 2 babies will be much appreciated. ā¤ļø

Every morning, he appears in front of my window. He doesn’t meow, he doesn’t make a sound. He just sits there, resting a paw gently on the glass. As if whispering, ā€œToday, maybe?ā€
I asked around. The neighbors told me his family left weeks ago. They moved... and didn’t take him with them.
Since then, he comes back. Every day. Same spot. Same time. Waiting for something that won’t return.
There’s something in his eyes that breaks your heart — not pain, not anger — just a quiet hope that refuses to give up completely.
Today, I opened the door. I didn’t call him, didn’t move. I just let the door stay open. And waited.
He looked at me. He hesitated. Then he stepped inside.
He ate quietly. Then curled up in a corner, eyes still on me, as if trying to understand if this was real.
It is.
You don’t have to wait anymore.
Today, a new story begins. And this time, you’re not going to be left behind.

I still remember that day as if it were yesterday. It was hot—the kind of afternoon when all you want is to get home and rest. But as I passed by a small park, my eyes were drawn to a figure lying under a bench. It was him. Beautiful, even majestic despite his thin frame, this cat with an incredible coat looked like a little leopard stranded in the middle of the city.

No one seemed to notice him. His eyes were alert but wary. His skinny body betrayed the hard days he had lived—on the streets, hungry, struggling. I pulled a piece of my sandwich and approached slowly. He didn’t move, but his eyes followed every one of my gestures. After a few minutes of hesitation, he stood up and came closer. He didn’t eat the bread. He just rubbed his head against my hand. As if to say, ā€œI’m ready. Take me with you.ā€

I picked him up, and he didn’t resist. Straight to the vet, without a second thought. He was skinny, a bit dehydrated, covered in small wounds. But the vet confirmed he was overall in decent health. That day, he officially became my companion.

Today, we went back to that same clinic for a simple check-up. Nothing serious—just a routine visit to make sure everything's okay. While we waited, he jumped up on the counter like a king. Everyone turned to look at him. ā€œHe looks like a wildcat,ā€ one woman said with a smile. I looked at his beautiful rosettes, his bright eyes, and thought about everything he had been through.

He’s not just beautiful. He’s strong, proud, intelligent… He’s my pride.
Adopting him was one of the most spontaneous decisions I’ve ever made. But also one of the best. Because he taught me that sometimes, we don’t choose an animal. They choose us. And when they do, they change your life.

He’s no longer a street cat. He’s home. He’s loved. He’s safe. And every single day, I thank fate for leading me to him

I recently moved and brought my feral kitties with me. They’ve always lived free range on my previous property however this move we decided to turn the shed into their air conditioned home and attached a couple chicken coops for an outside area for them. They’ve been living in the shed for a little over a month now and today I finally secured and arranged their coop area. It was so much fun building and even through they’ve had access to it for almost an hour and no-one has come out into it I am still excited for them to have this space. Also disregard the mess - everything is a work in progress šŸ˜‚
