Em & Lou's Pet Care

Em & Lou's Pet Care Offering 1-2-1 dog walks We are Emily and Louise, twin sisters with a passion and love for animals!

We both studied for 3 years at Hadlow College in Mottingham and gained qualifications in Animal Care and Animal Management. After we left college in 2014, we both began working for a pet care company in Central London and the surrounding areas. We walked Shih Tzu's to a Canadian Eskimo Hound and Huskies, visiting pedigree cats and moggy's in riverside apartments to town houses. We were trained and

are experienced in providing high quality pet care, which we have continued with our own service; Em and Lou's Pet Care, which we established in 2017.

Please, PLEASE do everything you can to keep your dog cool in this heat!!

A report of a recent study said, "The English bulldog, for example, is 14 times more likely to get heat stroke than a Labrador, which was found to be at no greater risk than cross-breeds and used as the experiment's control. [...] Other flat-faced dogs at increased risk include the French bulldog (6x), Dogue de Bordeaux (5x) and the pug (3x). [...] Dogs pant to cool down – without a nose, panting is simply less effective. In fact, brachycephalic dogs may even generate more heat simply gasping to breathe than they lose by panting."

You can find the full article here: https://www.ntu.ac.uk/about-us/news/news-articles/2020/06/flat-faced-dogs-such-as-bulldogs,-french-bulldogs-and-pugs-most-at-risk-of-heat-stroke,-study-shows?fbclid=IwAR1kpp50SNm7M-RLovyDDyADHNj8QjYt9-ojfeh9emI-6w0xdvfXa2utn0c

Please do everything you can to keep your dog cool.
- Air conditioning and fresh water are the best! If you don't have air conditioning, make one with a block of ice and a fan. There are lots of online tutorials.
- Take your dog down to the basement where it's cooler.
- Use cool, damp towels to wipe down your dog anywhere the skin is thin: the belly and groin, behind the ears, paws, etc.
- Put cool water in the bath tub and soak their paws.
- Give cool treats such as ice cubes or plain yogurt (be sure it doesn't have xylitol (aka "Birch Sugar" ) or too much sugar.
- Seek shade and avoid taking your dog out in the heat of the day.

Stevie appreciation post ✨

We love this little lady so much! We’ve been looking after her for a good few years πŸ₯° she started of unsure & a little shy of us but now she’s always around when we visit her, loves fusses and the occasional tummy rub πŸ˜† we absolutely adore how she gets excited for her treats and that she’s always at the top of the stairs to welcome us!

Stevie you are truly amazing πŸ’–

Cats are curious and known to nibble, and if they nibble these plants, they could end up with vomiting, diarrheaβ€”or even worse. πŸ™€

If you want to play it safe, keep these flowers outside in the flower bed or put them far out of your cats’ reach!
