Absolutely obsessed with this recall practice with Harley!
Adolescence is a trying time, even more so for the pup, and certain areas of training can seem to drop.
We brought Crash out today as a decoy to practice recalling from dogs and this is our first attempt... I'd say I'm pretty impressed if I do say so myself!
Using the right dogs as stooges, and setting dogs up for success is so important with training. Using an excitable or playful dog would've been way too much for her right away.

I try and do seminars in both behaviour and veterinary as much as possible.
I recently watched a fantastic one by Calm Canine Academy Karishma Warr and Williamsburg Veterinary Clinic on pain and behaviour.
After this, I decided to discuss Midge's pain management with her vets and up her drugs and she's a different dog.
Yes, she's still ataxic, no, she'll never have "normal" movment but she's SO much happier.
She's had voluntary play sessions, she's asking to run on walks (she kicks me when she wants to go down and barks for initating attention)
This is not what a "normal" dog would look like, but knowing Midge like I do, I can see the vast improvement and couldn't thank this talk enough.

Just a quick video about how our boundary progress is going!
Crash was a stray dog and he has a tendency to bolt, we've managed this before with gates etc but, over the last week, I've made it my mission to get this behaviour nailed.
I'm SO proud of this progress, even when he has broken threshold a couple of times, he's happily wandered right back in and picked up the criteria really quickly.

Our August Novice Tricks 😍❤️
Who's joining? Tuesday Nights, Zoom (online), 7pm or 7:45. 4 classes available on each time.
Intermediate available too! 8:30 on Tuesdays, 3 spots available. All Tricks can be made a bit harder or easier as required and all classes are reactive, young and old dog friendly!
(All except ring a bell, I didn't have a bell on me haha)
Sorry everyone, I will try and post here as well as Instagram!
Simba used to be very traffic reactive. He would be lunging at cars and if he couldn't get them then he'd redirect back to his handler - pulling at clothing and biting arms.
This has taken work, it's about generally building confidence, ability to follow Handler directions and the understanding of being calm around triggers as well as counter conditioning and desensitisation around traffic.
Look how well he's doing! If you've got a traffic reactive dog, get in touch ✌️
5 Reasons I love playing "Find It" with my reactive / nervous clients
1. It engages their sense of smell. Dogs have an INCREDIBLE nose so using it will stimulate millions of neurons - super engaging, tiring and calming
2. Sniffing the ground is a calming signal to other dogs. Staring is threatening to other dogs. By teaching "my" dog to sniff the ground on cue, it can diffuse tension with any passing dogs so reactions are less likely
3. Some dogs don't find food valuable. By throwing it, you increase the value of the food so you can use lower value kibble OR entice none foodie dogs to attribute more value to it
4. Often reactive dogs are nervous dogs. By encouraging them to explore the environment, you can really build their confidence
5. This game can be used anywhere for anything. The more practice the better - make it in to a game for their dinner. Inside, outside, around triggers or distractions... whenever and wherever you can.
