Our Founder, Delphine, was privileged to present at Bromley Buzz Let’s Talk Better campaign to explain how we encourage community connections by pairing up local dog owners with older people in their area to go for walks and talks together.
The results are speaking for themselves with 79% of our clients saying they now walk more as a result of CareDogs’ befriending service and 100% of them enjoying their weekly befriending sessions.
86% of our clients state feeling more positive about walking in general since joining our service.
So here’s to all of us getting out and about in our local community and walking and talking more!
We're supported by some fantastic women volunteers!
Just a boop from one of our volunteer dogs, Teddy. He wanted to remind us that the days are getting longer and spring is nearly here!

Loneliness can affect anyone.
This is why the campaign is so important.
While loneliness is an emotional experience, isolation is a lack of social contact.
Our Founder, Delphine, was thrilled to be asked to speak into how CareDogs can play our part.

We sat down with our Dog of the Month, Kodi and his human Ginny to find out a bit more about one of our latest volunteer recruits!
🥎 My ideal day would involve...
Waking up and hopping into bed with my Mum and Dad for a cuddle, then at around 10am we'd hop in the car and go somewhere new for a walk (I love all the sights and smells!) I'd then wolf down some late breakfast and have a snooze in the car on the way home.
My favourite park is Peckham Rye because I get to play with all my friends, especially my girlfriend Daphne (a Bernese Mountain Dog). When I get home I have some dinner and then demand cuddles until bed time. If I can sneak a few treats in the evening too (the cheese tax) then I'm a happy boy.
🌭 Favourite treat:
A Gail's Sausage Roll...I'm boujee.
🐕 Scratch me here please:
The three B's - Barrel (Chest), Butt and Belly. I also love being scratched behind the ears or under the chin. I just want any attention to be honest.
✨ Life motto is:
Take your time, there's nothing wrong with taking it slow - stop long enough to enjoy yourself once in a while!
❤️
Kodi and Ginny volunteer with CareDogs walking and spending time with an older person in their area. If you live in South London, particularly Croydon or Bromley, we're looking for volunteers with dogs to make a big impact on older people's lives. Email us on [email protected] to find out more.

🥳What a year!
🎉 We couldn't have done it without our volunteers, supporters, trustees, clients, followers or donors. Everyone of you make CareDogs what it is!
❤ Here's to an exciting 2024!
🎄 Whether you're spending time this festive period with friends, family or by yourself, we're wishing you a wonderful restful few days. From all of us at CareDogs Charity.
🎄 A donation this Christmas to CareDogs will help us support older people struggling with loneliness. We pair volunteers and their dogs up with our older clients for 1-2 hours together walking a week.
🐶 We are a volunteer led charity and depend on donations and grants to continue offering our service so no amount is too small or too big. Your donations help us to reach more isolated older people within the community by running events and onboarding volunteers so we can meet the demand of older people looking to get out and about with a local befriender and their lovely dog.

A day in the life of a CareDog...🐕💚 Our lovely client Wendy referred herself to our befriending service back in February this year. Wendy is 64 years old and lives with her two cats, meaning she cannot have a dog of her own. 🐶 In search of motivation to get out and improve her wellbeing, Wendy signed up to CareDogs and it was the pawfect fit! Wendy meets regularly with her volunteer and their dog Joey for walks, talks, treats and cake and has said that "walking with my CareDogs volunteer and Joey gives me purpose". 🐾
Sun’s out, dogs out! ☀️🐕🐩🐕🦺🦮 Today’s group dog walk at Beckenham Place Park felt like the perfect way to start off spring, filled with wonderful people, adorable dogs, great conversation, CareDogs cookies and more. Stay posted to hear about our next one and to join in on our dog-friendly fun, bringing people together in community and getting out and about. We walked for 1.5 hours around the grass, paths and the mud before getting stuck into biscuits, tea and talks! Thank you to everyone who joined today and made our third ever group walk so memorable.

We braved the rain for another super fun year at Paws in The Park by Friends of Cator and Alexandra 🐾 It was an honour to co-judge the “best rescue dog” category and for our very own founder’s dog, Nola, to win 2nd best for her “speaking” talents! We loved meeting the Cator Park locals and speaking with more potential volunteers (and their lovely dogs) to help with our befriending service. Thanks again for having us! 💚
🐾 Our CareDogs Walk In The Park today was so much fun 🐕 Take a sneek peak and we hope you will join us next time!🚶♀️ We started earlier than usual to avoid the peak heat, had lots of water for the pups and cupcakes for our amazing volunteers, made by our Client Manager, Julia who so generously volunteers her time and talents with us. Lots of onlookers were interested to know about CareDogs and we hope to recruit even more volunteers and their four-legged friends to join our befriending service! Today was made possible, thanks to Localgiving’s Magic Little Grants which allowed us to design and get our CareDogs team jumpers, dog bandanas and latest literature to spread our mission far and wide!
❤️ We asked CareDogs' long-time friend Claudia about how her dogs, Harley and Nala helps improve her everyday well-being. 🐕 If you have a dog, how do they help you every day? 🙋 Did you know that caring for a pet can give your day purpose and a sense of achievement whilst feeling valuable and needed. It gives owners someone to share their routine with, especially in later life. (Source: Mental Health Foundation)
How have your dogs been enjoying the snow? Here are some of the CareDogs canine crew having zoomies, snowball snacks and garden playtime ❄️🐾
ITV London interviewed our wonderful pair, Colin and Fiona (and her lovely dog Ellie) to talk about how impactful our befriending service has been, especially for Colin who sadly lost his wife Jo a couple of years ago. We bring community and friendship into people's lives via canine companionship, walks and talks. Watch our segment here, filmed in today's gale force winds!
We forge life-changing connections between older people and dogs who need rehoming, by facilitating and supporting dog adoption through our support network of volunteers, charities and local intergenerational communities.
At CareDogs, our actions are focused on the following:
1 MILLION 75-year-olds who live alone say they go over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member while 130,000 dogs go into rehoming centres in the UK every year, often because their owner doesn’t have enough time for them. Help us alleviate these two problems today.
