A heavily pregnant female and two other guinea pigs were dumped in a carrier bag. 3 days later she gave birth to this little darling. Why are people so cruel. They're safe now ❤️

🐰Day 5 and the last day of # RabbitAwarenessWeek!
Hopefully you've enjoyed our posts all about rabbits this week. The sad truth is, in the UK we are facing a rabbit crisis with a whopping 48% rise in rabbits being taken in last year. 1,090 rabbits arrived at our animal centres and 1,942 were rescued by RSPCA branches.
It's a vicious circle. More rabbits are being abandoned or signed over than ever before, rescue waiting lists are already full and adoptions have plummeted. Meanwhile, rabbits are still being bred & brought in pet shops & by irresponsible breeders.
Rescues. Can't. Cope.
"Accidental litters" are also a huge problem, with rabbits often being mis-sold or misexed which adds to the overpopulation problem. That's why neutering your rabbits is so incredibly important. Male rabbits can be castrated from 10 weeks, while females can be spayed from four months. The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund has a directory of rabbit-friendly vet practices (https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/recommended-rabbit-friendly-vets/), where owners can seek out help with neutering.
Alos, a lot of RSPCA branches, like us, can offer neutering vouchers or financial assistance for neutering. If you need help with neutering, reach out to your local branch www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/yourlocal. If you're in our branch area & need help to neuter your bunny, complete our enquiry form https://bit.ly/3HXCSgt
There's been a 199% rise in rabbits staying in care for over six months. You can help by adopting a rescue animal, this not only helps the animal you adopt but the next animal who needs that rescue space.
Rusty is one of those rabbits, he has been with us since January this year. He was rescued from unsuitable conditions along with four other rabbits. As you can see from his video, he's a delightful boy and is looking for a new home to bond with an existing bun. Check out his profile & how to adopt https://bit.ly/40Yj3yd
