‘House rules’. Waiting patiently in bed while humans eat their dinner…… it’s worth it though as we get our reward at the end 😉. Send to beds take time and patience to teach, breaking the behaviour down in distance, duration and distractions. It takes time to reach your goal, but teaching this alternative good behaviour prevents begging and scavenging at the dinner table.

An update on lovely Luna. 💙

We've been incredibly moved by the overwhelming support in our search to find Luna a home.

From applications to sharing our social posts, we can't express our gratitude enough. Despite the overwhelming response, finding the right match has proven difficult due to the specific requirements needed and future uncertainties for owners of this type. 💔 Although we are still working through many of the applications, it means our pool of potential adopters is smaller than usual, and sadly, we still haven't found the right person for her.

With that said, we haven't lost hope! Please keep sharing Luna's post to increase her chance of finding a home. As you know, she potentially has a matter of weeks, if not days, to live unless we find her a loving home. All because her looks resemble an American bully XL.

If you think you could be the person for Luna, please email us at [email protected] or read her story here 👉 https://bit.ly/46LtuaO

Thank you.

ABTC Statement on Augusto Deoliveira’s dog handling practices.

We need your help to put an end to the use of electronic shock collars. We’re asking all members of the veterinary profession to contact their local MP and ask them to urge the Government to deliver on its commitment to ban these aversive training devices for dogs and cats.

Don’t let the UK Government back out of banning shock collars. Help us increase the pressure and contact your local MP today.

04/08/2023

As you may be aware, a couple of months ago we got the great news that Westminster were banning electric shock collars and that Regulations to this effect would be in force as of February 2024.
The Regulations can be found here. The Animal Welfare (Electronic Collars) (England) Regulations 2023 (legislation.gov.uk)
However, we have heard that Defra has been strongly lobbied by the pro shock collar contingency and, as a result, they have asked for more voice from the anti shock collar campaigners (that’s us!) which is needed this month for them to ensure that the Regulations pass by September and can be introduced next February.
There is currently a serious danger that if they do not hear more from the anti shock collar lobby they will think that the majority of the profession want to keep shock collars (or at least be swayed by the loudest voices). Even if they don’t U-turn, the will just delay and the Regulations will be kicked into the long grass and deemed too complicated.
As such we need people to write to the Minister to voice support for a ban.
It might also be that we can gain some traction by tweeting Defra asking when they will (using that hashtag).
We are so worried that if we don’t get as many people as possible expressing their concern that we might lose this ban come next year which would be absolutely devastating for dog welfare.
Note: Shock collars are currently illegal in Wales, and mentioned in the Animal Welfare act in Scotland (but if you are from either Wales or Scotland, still write to the Minister!).

The Golden times 👌🏻. So proud of this group who all passed their KC Good Citizens gold tests. An incredible journey with lots of fun and laughter along the way. So much commitment, patience and practise is necessary to reach gold and they all made me totally proud. 💜🐾
